SWTOR: Catch-All

I didn't catch that you guys were sticking to Wednesdays. I probably won't be able to catch you guys that much, then, since that's usually our local group's pub trivia night. If I do happen to run into you all, though, I'll say hey.

No Imperial characters on the server, and I'm not sure I'll have the time or energy to build one. I'll just have to stick to my Jedi Knight.
Switching services has increased my work load and worsened my commute time, so gaming time has been stretched thin as it is. Plus I'm basically exhausted all the time and turning in around 9pm. XD So yeah, I'd better fight off another bout of altitis!!

I just started playing this on the Alliance side on Jedi Covenant (luckily, I just picked that at random). Currently running a Han Solo character (forgot the class name. ) up to level 10 to get the full race unlock, but I'll likely be rolling a Jedi to be a healer after that.

If you play a smuggler instead of a mercenary, you can be a Han Solo healer and don't have to start a jedi.

Just saying...

So I discovered. I am confused. I really need to find an easy to read, but informative, explanation of what each class/sub-class is capable of.

Well I've reinstalled, though to be honest joining the Australia/Japan lunch leveling crew is probably not going to work for me. Might be able to join you on weekends though. Everyone's on Jedi Covenant right?

Also, does anyone play Pacific time in the evening?

Started playing this again after being a beta tester and launch buyer. I forgot how good this game actually was!

I think they just missed on making it addicting, but I'm enjoying the game and will probably subscribe for a month or two.

One question I have for you guys who've been playing for a while. Is player morality still binary at best? I've always been a neutral player, mainly because I avoid the light/dark logo and pick whatever dialogue fits my character. But this looked to be harmful for endgame gear as most of it requires a certain level of light or dark side points. I'd rather not pick EVERY light side choice or vice versa. Anyone know if they changed the system at all to benefit neutrals?

AFAIK, it means nothing anymore. You can get some gear from Light side or Dark side vendors, but that's about it.

Yeah, there's some (mediocre) relics, a few pieces of blue and custom gear and a speeder that depend on your light/dark alignment, but that's about it. My Agent ended up Darkside 2 taking relatively middle of the road choices and it didn't bother him much.

edit: Oh, there's a few rare dialogue choices that are/aren't available based on your alignment, as well, but they don't make the results of the dialogue any easier or harder in any appreciable way.

Leveling relics and a couple of shells have alignment requirements, but none of that matters at endgame unless I guess if you really like the look of one of those shells.

Quick tip about alignment - you can take the diplomacy crafting skill and some missions will give you light or dark points. So if you want to offset that lightside penalty for letting the orphan live, you can go send your companion on an assassination crafting mission. At least that's what Im doing on my new inquisitor. He's kind of a Micheal Corleone character who acts rather magnanimous and merciful in person and let his underlyings do his dirty work. Unless of course you really cross him.

Diplomacy works with cyber tech and bio analysis, both handy craft skills.

Great advice. There is so much I've forgotten about this game since launch, but I actually really enjoyed the crafting mechanic in the early stages.

Any republic guilds? If I resubscribe I may be interested in transferring to a server with some GWJers.

Diplomacy is just for Biochem.

I imagine there's enough interest to make a guild if one's not already in place. I have my old Republic guild but I don't think it'd be a big deal to just abandon it or give it to an alt so we can populate a new one.

On the republic side those of us who still play rolled into the GAF guild. They're good guys and still somewhat active plus some familiar faces still hang around. Been cool to see the few times I jump in.

Ahh good catch - I thought I had used it for my first character who was a cybertech but obviously I was hallucinating.

I'm leveling imperial with another guild but I'd be interested in moving my 50 trooper over from a PVP server to help out if you guys want to resurrect something.

It's double xp weekend. God bless us, everyone!

I'll probably be on my smuggler or knight Republic side a lot, not sure which yet.

Hey Bloo, what's your smuggler and guardian's names and levels? I have a level 29 sage named X'errik and a level 23 guardian named Iphradiun that could use some leveling company. Weather has been sh*tty here recently which translates into me having days off and time to play in the mornings, so it's around your evening times. Hopefully we can group at some point.

Does this game need a double xp weekend? I out level content so fast as it is.

My Guardian's name is Throatjab, the smuggler (gunslinger) is Fintan. I didn't get to play all that much tonight because apparently my roommate and I severely underestimated how much effort we needed to put into dinner prep for tomorrow. But I'll see about getting one of them to the mid 20s this weekend.

Right? I'd look forward to a 1/2 XP weekend, so I could actually do a whole questline on a planet.

So did a good job this weekend so far - leveling from 10 to close to 21 in a weekend without playing that hard. I have however realized two things:

1 Im in love with my sith inquisitor story but find myself getting bored with some of the areas I already did. Already tired of Balmora and dreading Nar Shaada. I loved Alderaan, Tatooine and Hoth so maybe that will keep me going.

2. Double experience is about my speed of leveling so not sure what Ill do when it goes back to normal. I've been looking for significant xp boosters for sale in the store, but all I've found is like 25 percent. Man I miss double xp birthday boosters from GW 2.

Yeah the double XP is nice for cruising through the story - both class and the planet's main story. I've found, though, if you're pretty good about doing your daily random and the spaceship missions close to your level every other day or so, you can keep up about that pace.

Incidentally, sorry I wasn't around much this weekend like I thought. Things did not go to plan. I played some today and realized that I really don't like gunslinger solo. So I torched Fintan and am making a Scoundrel because I enjoyed my Operative a lot and figure this weekend would be a good quick way to get to a non-crappo level. For some reason it wouldn't let me re-use the same name (says it was "invalid" not taken) so he's named Fachnan now. And he's Chiss. Cuz why not.

Anyone have problems running this on win 8.1?

I got it installed. Then when I clicked play on the launcher it looked like it changed to a lower resolution and the screen went black and it locked up. I went to task manager and closed swtor. But now it won't load the launcher "failed to load web app". I switched to winxp compatibility and run as admin to no avail.

I run on 8.1 without a problem.

I run on 8.1 as well, but I installed before 8.1 came out so I dunno what that may mean. I know it had a few graphical processing errors when I was first playing it on Win 8, but those went away after a couple launches. Re-install, maybe? I assume you've done the driver checking and all that.

While I didn't get to play as much as I would have liked, I think I played more than I figured. I probably won't be on too much this week just because I feel like I am in a TOR-Hangover, but if you guys are tracking people to whisper, this is what my roster looks like now -

Throatpunch - 55 Trooper (Commando)
Saucedo - 50 Consular (Shadow)
Charitable - 50 Inquisitor (Sorcerer)
Curbjaw - 20 Bounty Hunter (Mercenary)
Fachnan - 18 Smuggler (Scoundrel)
Throatjab - 18 Knight (Guardian)

I have an Operative and an Assassin over on The Harbinger, but I think everyone is semi-active on JC.

At the end of the double xp weekend I jammed out a 18 Smuggler and 20 BH just because doing the starting planet plus doing Black Talon / Esseles and then Hammer station and all of the PvE/PvP dailies/weeklies ended up putting you around that level for relatively minimal time investment. Anywho, I will probably try to find a guild or something somewhat active to play in even though I'm not all that interested in ops, but if you guys keep me appraised of your levels I can try to keep an alt around that level to have on hand to run stuff in the future. The f-list doesn't update that well, I don't think.

If you're inclined, run lots of warzones and/or flashpoints (space missions work too, but they don't interest me as much). My sorc is at least level 25 and has hardly done a quest on Balmorra. At some point, I figure I'll go back just to clear the class quests and advance chapters, but I'd rather heal warzones and flashpoints than do the world quests yet again.

If you're not opposed to pvp this is what i do now when leveling. Do warzones till you get enough tokens to trade in for planet tokens (warzone tokens will cap out and you might as well use them as you get them till you hit 50) that i use to buy the highest tier modification items i can. When that happens i then goto that planet and at that point pretty much faceroll the content. When finished i rinse/repeat for the next planet.

I gave the link a few pages back, but I'll do again here. If you're looking for a guild with a very GWJ-vibe, try Pillars of Ashla. I joined a few months ago and they're very nice folks. They do raiding, leveling pacts, pvp, and ops and stuff, but none of it is required. It's just there if you want to do it. They have Republic and Empire sides and have all the nice XP boosts that go with being in an active guild.

Yeah, Pillars of Ashla is a decent gang. I don't cross paths with them often thanks to time-zones, but when I do they are always friendly and guild chatter is pleasant.

On the subject of chatter, I'm pretty sure this game has the worst general chat of any MMO I've played. It's just full of trollish dickishness. I don't like to mute general chat so I keep it on, but whenever I find my eye drawn to the window I get annoyed.

I didn't get to play much on double XP weekend, but when I did the levelling didn't seem that much quicker. Between rested XP, boosters and the 10% guild bonus levelling is pretty quick already. Maybe I should have boosted some of my lower characters.

Bloo, I must remember to friend list your characters this week. Not sure how often we'll cross paths, but it would be cool to group if we do. I'm mostly Imperial at the moment though, mostly thanks to the bad-assedness of the toff English accent saying evil stuff.

Oh, and I've taken a liking to space combat. It reminds me of the old Star Wars Trilogy arcade game I used to love so much.
