NCAA Football 2013-2014 discussion

What a finish to Auburn - Georgia! Sorry, ferret.

And that, Georgia, is why you don't let the receiver get behind you.

On the one hand, so proud of the comeback. On the other, just knock the damn ball down.

Texans missed the playoffs one year by attempting to just knock the ball down. Freak plays just happen sometimes.

Yeah, watching the replay again and the Auburn WR never, I mean never, even looked for the ball until it just magicaly floated into his hands.

Yeah, it was an insane, unearned play. Pass was nowhere near him until it was deflected right into his lap.

Also, Texas Tech is current out-shoot-outing #5 Baylor 20-7 in the first quarter.

If the season ended today, Florida State would face in the ACC title game ... Duke!

Dook finishes the season at Wake and at Chapel Hill, so I say the Devils are about 90 percent certain of being in Charlotte next month.

I'm all in favor of it. GT is too gimmicky, and VT is a really bad 7-4 team.

Wow... just wow... If someone told me Cal would be the worst team in the Pac-12... I think I could accept that, as long as we looked like we showed some improvement week to week and just got handed some tough bounces of the ball.

However we are at least a full level below the dregs of the Pac-12. Utah, Colorado, WSU we're not even worthy of holding their jock strap, let alone being put in the bottom quartile with them. There's oregon and furd... a bunch of above average and decent teams.. then there's Utah, Colorado and WSU, then there is dirt, then there is Cal.

This is the lowest I've ever seen and felt. I sat through a 1-10 season before Tedford, but for most of that season we knew that was Holmoe's last, and we knew we were not only outcoached but outmanned on the field. Here we are 11 games and we still can't tackle, still can't run, still can't rush the QB, still give up big plays on screens, still can't cover special teams, still can't take good angles, still take stupid penalties. Every week its 1 step forward, and if we're lucky (like we were against Arizona) one step back. Most games its been 1 step forward 3 steps back, or in the case of USC, just back. Dykes is going nowhere (not that I think we should fire him after 1 season) but no matter how far down the road I look, I don't see the end of the tunnel.

Well, this week is Big Game week.. and i have unfortunately signed myself up for that misery down on the farm. I don't think vegas will be able to come up with a line big enough to get money on Cal. Who knows... maybe there will be a miracle, but right now I'm just looking forward to the tailgate.

If (when?) Dykes goes, 100% guaranteed AD Sandy Barbour is out the door with him.

There's freak plays and then there's stupid plays. One defender sticking his hands in front of another defender's to try and beat him to the ball is stupid.

And just as bad is that the third, trailing defender easing up rather than continuing full-on pursuit. If he doesn't stop to watch the play being made on the ball, he could have been in position to make a play on the ball or receiver after the tip.

The direction of the bounce was bad luck, but this was self-inflicted on Georgia's part.

The next day and that play still happened. Georgia is now the proud owner of the two most gut wrenching losses of the last twelve months.

Huh? Were they up 28-7 at home with 5 min left in the 3rd quarter and blew their only chance at the BCS? Pretty f*cking wrenching over here still, 3 weeks later.

We lost to f*ckING TEXAS.

We gave up a touchdown to Mississippi State! Gut. Wrenching.

Great quote on Cal.

Three teams went 3-9 last year in BCS conferences and hired new coaches. One is 10-1 Auburn. Another is soon-to-be 1-10 Cal

From Brian Stumpf who runs a lot of the elite high school recruiting events.

I think its time for the AD at Cal to go.

All of you and especially Grump are all magnificent bastards!

To be fair, Auburn was stacked to the gills with elite talent that they recruited off of a MNC win and Heisman. Go compare the recruiting rankings of Auburn's roster vs Cal.

Not saying Dykes is doing a good job, just putting this in perspective.

I get that... But pure talent I would put cal in the top half of the PAC 12. Most reasonable cal faithful would have said 4 or 5 wins would be acceptable... A low bowl would be exceeding expectations. Being non competitive in all but one FBS game is a total disaster.

From SB Nation, UGA coaches dying last night:

Yay. Louisville wins, this time over a 7-2 team, and still drops 2 spots in the voter polls.

f*ck football.

Ridiculous. Hell, at this point, stop worry about the polls and enjoy your team. You are having a pretty damn good season, and next year you will be in the ACC (which isn't saying all that, but it's an improvement).

Well a coaching change probably won't fix anything. Just another lost recruiting year and another new system. Give Dykes some time. Auburn is not a good comparison.

I am probably the more patient of the cal alum. Regardless of what I really think Cal simply can't afford to fire Dykes. We're still paying out Tedford for at least 1 or 2 more years, and if we canned Dykes we'd need to do the same for him. Paying for 2 HC's now is already bad enough. A 3rd is impossible.

I can send a slightly used motorcycle your way if that's all you're worried about.

Does it come with its own "student-athlete coordinator"?

Bad news for our starting QB who was held out this week for a concussion suffered the previous week. Testing discovered a pre-existing neurological condition and he could be done with football. No word on what it is but here's hoping the best for him.

Well its Big Game week in the Bay Area for the annual Cal-stanfurd rivalry game. I'm sure at some point this week I'll post the greatest college football play of all time (with all due respect to fans of Boston College or Colorado), but right now its looking pretty bad for Cal. Vegas has a -31.5 line, which is absurd for a rivalry game, and even more absurd since stanfurd is only averaging 30 PPG.

However, no matter how grim it looks, at least Cal won't Forfeit because we are afraid like stanfurd did in Rugby in 2001.

ps. I think I posted this last year in the 2012 thread, but what the heck.. i need all the happy historical stuff I can find.

It's A&M - LSU week!

The Winston allegation situation in Tally is getting pretty bad.
