Watched the latest episode last night. Really excellent writing, but very early on I turned to my fiancee and said, "With all the screen time she's getting, Carol's gonna die this episode right?" Sorry T-Dawg, you really set a precedent there.

Kind of glad that she didn't die, although I'm not sure where her storyline will be going. I love everyone's analysis about this episode, which just goes to prove how strong it was.

Can a katana really cut horizontally through a skull?

It's possible, but the cut and form would have to be perfect. What she's doing isn't.

When are they ever going to show her backstory? In the comics, she took the katana from her neighbor's house. She wasn't some sort of master swordsman.

Well, if they reveal her backstory, they'll have to reveal what she used to do for a living. And she'll probably go from one of the most liked to one of the most hated characters.

Comic spoiler:

Spoiler:

she used to be a lawyer.

I think it's funny that she's using her katana like she's Toshiro Mifune or something when in the backstory it was probably one of those swords you get at the "Blades, Etc" stores at the mall.

It was a kid that collected swords. Probably from Amazon.com.

I think Rick has to be truthful about Carol. If he lies, it's a big sign that Carol is coming back. But I don't think Rick is dumb enough to believe he can get away with lying, since carol very well could drive straight back to the prison.

I'm pretty sure that was why he kept looking in the rear-view mirror.

I think the way he kicked her out was the right way to go about it, if he let her stay, beyond the constant threat that she would decide she'd be safer if someone else was dead, whatever sort of "trial" they'd have for her would lead to massive internal strife. I'm guessing her lack of reaction to finding the woman being eaten was when he really solidified his decision. I'm not sure he would have left her there if the other couple had survived and met them there to go to the prison with them. She flat-out said she would kill whomever she thought she needed to without consulting the group first, and she didn't show the slightest bit of remorse that her reckless decision led to at least one more of the few remaining humans in the world dying. They were just another set of hands to gather supplies, and she didn't really care if they lived or died.
There'd have been plenty of time for them to earn their keep once they got back to the prison and healed up a bit. It's a shame Rick didn't regain his sense of authority until afterwards. It was crazy that he agreed to let them go search houses by themselves where they would encounter zombies when a single one kept them locked in that bathroom for two days. The really odd thing was that they never even tried to shoot the zombies with the guns they had. The smart thing would have been to have him take one of them with him, and have Carol search with the other, but I suppose he couldn't really do that since he didn't trust Carol anymore, and part of the reason they went out was for him to assess her state of mind and decide what to do with her.

Awesome

I liked the latest episode but hate how they never prepare for a obvious problem. They know people are going to die so why not lock them up or tie them up or just loop a rope around them. The zombies wouldn't be smart enough to remove the rope. The sick people can just take it off and put it back on once they are done.

What was that girl doing with the zombie. I thought she was going lure it into a trap and ninja kill him but she didn't do any cool kill attempts. Then she was playing in the blood at the end.

-I like where they're going with Michonne. After she broke down while holding Judith it was readily apparent that she has a deep back story (probably lost a child) and her persona from the moment of her introduction as "angry black woman" was undeserved. Ever since the episode with Judith it's as if she's gained some acceptance and resolution with her past and has shed her cocoon. I've always thought she was attractive but seeing her smile with Herschel made her glow. Sadly, I get the impression that just when we start to really fall for her she will have her finale with the Governor and they will both kill each other because for some reason The Walking Dead doesn't like to keep around minorities not named Glenn for too long.

-Nice to see Rick regarding Carl as a young man. Last night was the turning point in their relationship.

-Was hoping Glenn choked to death. All weekend long, when my kids were napping or I had a spare moment, I found myself putting on AMC and catching small bits of random Walking Dead episodes. It seemed that in every snippet I caught that Glenn was acting like a little b*tch. I had no problem with him before but after seeing him in this light I was cheering on his death.

-I'm getting the impression some people have an immunity to this sickness. Herschel's family all seem unaffected. Same with Rick's. The sickness plus the inevitable showdown with the Governor are a culling to diminish the size of the group before they get forced to relocate. It's not conducive for the writers to have to relocate dozens of people.

Comic spoiler about Michonne

Spoiler:

As of book 9 she is alive and well... of course so is Andrea... (although she is a lot less whiney in the comics).

I agree with you about the immunity thing. Carl even refered to it...

I am just waiting to see how Daryl handles the news of Carol.

I predict a flip-out and we see the true feelings he had for her...maybe he takes off to find her?

AND

They come across ol' one eye and finish him off?

He was in the cell with Glenn when Glenn collapsed. She was luring him away so that he didn't attack Glenn.

Remember she's teh one that thought they were still people, just changed. She still treats them as though there's some humanity left in them. She's WRONG!!!

LOL

I really dig this season, and I feel like they're cutting the edge off of a lot of cheese that got applied heavily last season. So far, there's been a lot of good stuff. And then the governor shows back and my optimism for the show backslides. I like it when the show is bigger than any one character, and was unhappy that the gov escaped even though it seemed completely impossible. I knew he'd be coming back, of course, but I'm afraid that they'll again bend the reality of the show-world in an attempt to make him interesting. What's going on is already interesting. If we need a villain, find a new one rather than reheat the one that lumbered through the second half of last season.

I'm sure not everyone shares my lack of love for the gov, tho.

I always assumed he would have a hand in the end of the prison arc. But seeing him in sight of the prison just hangin' out stretches credulity.

I share. He's very silly and cartoonish in my eyes, and its very hard to take him seriously.

I like the TV show Gov to the one in the comics. Not sure why.

I really liked this episode, seems like I got a taste of smart, reasonable action.
Carl finally got treated as an equal, Herschel came to terms with killing the undead, Maggie was torn between helping Rick and saving her family.

I liked how Rick advises Carl to fall back, and instead Carl starts gaining ground.

I would love it if Carol casually ganks the Gov on her way to setting up another enclave and when Michonne et all finally track him down, he's just a head on a spike in front of Casa Carol, where the water is running and the trains are on time. And Rick is like omg Carol, can we sit with you at lunch? And Carol dips Daryl and they make out for like, an hour.

I just love Carol, okay?

Your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

I'm right there with you, Brennil!! I really liked Carol, and was sad to see her go. Hubby thinks that she's covering for Carl...

I didn't love this episode, but I didn't hate it either. There were a few strong points that Hobbes pointed out, Carl treated as an adult (but I loved that Rick said that he has to try and protect him, it's his job as a parent), Herschel's own personal journey, Maggie torn...
But, and this is where my overactive "no off switch" brain kicks in, there were a lot of stuff that bugged me. Intubating a guy while he's still kinda conscious and choking on his blood? I mean really? Intubating people is delicate, even when they're sedated! The "all or nothing" for the plague also kinda rubs me the wrong way. The way immunization works is tricky and super complex. Some people get it and die, some don't. There should also people who get it, but in a less severe form. People react differently to disease, and that reaction is informed by a variety of factors including genetics, but also past exposures to different pathogens.

Yes, I know this is a TV show, and I'm overthinking it.

Eleima wrote:

If I'm not mistaken, of the two girls that Carol "adopted", the older one (who liked the zombie Steve) became a zombie and the younger one (that was luring the zombie with the radio) seems to just have a cough. Am I getting that right? If so, I wonder if this is what you are alluding to. Maybe the younger one isn't outright immune like others seem to be but it's not affecting her as badly as most. Sasha will most certainly pull through, too.

I didn't want the gov back yet, they would have been better served not bringing him back until the end of this seasons finale as a teaser and fully in next season.

Am I mistaken in that all the people from the governor's town that they rescued at the end of last season are now dead with the exception of the children?

convenient way to clean house I guess...

The older girl was alive and well as of last night's show. She was the one playing Pied Piper of Zombie and trying to lure the intubation-zombie away from Glen. She was also the one who was boot-tip-painting in the blood puddle at the end. The younger one I'm not sure about, I don't recall if we've seen her lately.

It sure seems that way. I didn't expect them to last long anyway.
