Got a free battlepack code from Amazon for pre-ordering BF4 via the PS4 bundle. Guess they don't care that I still have time to cancel that order.

Hmm, haven't got mine yet... and I got the game already ages ago.

I got mine back in August on my preorder.

Oh really? Crap. This is the second time amazon have screwed me with pre-order codes. Still, last time my complaining scored me $20 in credit. Lets see how much I can get this time :P

I dug up the email. It was from 8/13.

So that was when you pre-ordered? I received nothing. Nothing at all.

I think I preordered a bit before that due to a 25% off coupon.

I think we're going to need some more server admins if you slackers are going to be playing CoD.

COD is for slackers!

the boss says so!

Hear hear!

Are we going to password it for Thursday?

Some say I was born for the job. What does an admin need to do besides ban people and send them to re-education camps?

thats about it.
Kick to make room for gwjers, kick for mouthy types, ban for repeat offenders
kick certis once in a while to keep him in line.
The usual stuff.

Here is a benchmark article that compares BF4 performance on W7 vs. W8.1. Here is the juicy bit from the conclusion:

Operating Systems – results clearly show that the game runs much better on Windows 8.1 than on Windows 7. When releasing Windows 8′s vanilla version, Microsoft announced better performance with multicore CPU’s, especially with AMD’s FX CPUs. What Microsoft said, Microsoft delivered. It is perfectly fine that new operating system brings better performance but we do not know why there is so much stuttering with Windows 7 OS. When we say stuttering we are not referring to frame drops or even Frametiming, we tested all that and it brought us nothing. We believe that Framerating techniques would show what the users and we as well have experienced, however at the time of testing we didn’t have adequate equipment to prove these claims but you can be sure that this is something we are going to be dealing with in the future. Battlefield 3 runs perfectly well with W7 without even a hint of stutter and we really do not understand why this happens in Battlefield 4. Unless, someone has found a way to show his new OS as a much superior one to the previous, and in order for them to do that, found a way for the older one to fail. We are not pointing any fingers, just saying. At this point , since there is not even a hint of a patch that would improve performance on W7 (DICE is being awfully quiet about that), if you are planning on upgrading your computer for Battlefield 4 the first thing you should change is your operating system and switch to Windows 8.1 (64-bit). /

Interesting read. I will say that for me BF4 runs more smoothly on low settings than BF3 did on low settings on my M11x R3 running Win 8.1

I just slapped in a new SSD and moved from Win7 to Win8.1. We'll see if I get much improvement. With my hardware previously, and a mix of Medium and High settings, I was pulling around 50 fps. Thus, I should be able to notice an improvement.

Well the SSD won't affect your fps in game. It will just make the level load faster. But I'll be curious to see how much improvement you get from 7 to 8.

Re: windows 8 vs windows 7. So I have Windows 7 and a 2-core CPU, no desire to update to Windows 8 and no money to update my CPU... so I'm screwed and just have to put up with stuttering?

You can't password an official/ranked server. Or rather, you can, but you won't get any points for anything you do while it's locked. I think the only way to do it without that limitation is just cutting the player count on the server so we can fill it and booting pubbies to get GWJ people in.

That stinks.

I'll also throw my hat in the ring if we're adding more admins.

Same here, happy to be an admin.

I apologize for being friend-spammy in origin last night. I went on a GWJ adding spree. I haven't had a ton of time to play but I've been enjoying it. Been in a few games with random GWJ folk and want to get in with more. I'm currently AsterithGWJ on origin.

That's what we're here for! I did the same thing when the game came out. I'm sure most of us did.

Had fun last night until everyone started dropping out. At one point My team had 7 players and the other had 14+.

We were pushed so far back to spawn that the other team had all the points and 3 battle tanks spamming us at our RU base.

Yep.

Unfortunately, due to the friend limit at 100 on Origin, I've also had to get rid of a bunch of people from here to add the new ones playing BF4. Sorry if I inadvertently got rid of an active player. Most of my GWJ friends were from either BF games or ME3, so I tried to look at games owned to see if people had BF4 before cutting them. Unfortunately, a lot of us have privacy settings.

Think I'm going to have to start dropping friends that only play console soon.

If I accidentally get rid of somebody that still plays BF4 with me, send me another request.

I've complained to the @battlefield and @origininsider accounts. I'm hoping they ease the limit at some point since both Sony and MS are doing so. I know the BF friends list used to be 150 before they combined it with the Origin friends, so it has been higher.

Asterith, I think you gunned for my IFV the last round I played on the dam. Thanks for the help

Yeah, I'm aware the SSD won't do much. I was already running on one...that failed...so I picked up a new one and replaced it.

I just tested it out using what I think are the same settings I was using before (it set me to "High" by default). I was operating in the mid-40s to 50 fps before and was just now (on a TDM map...) pulling mid-50s pretty consistently, with a few noticeable drops in fps. I'll have to do more extensive testing when I'm not getting ready for work.

So close...yet so far away.

I moved up from 179 to 92. I'm coming to get you.

Most frustrating thing, on Dawnbreaker, I was 10 kills in, unlocked a bunch of stuff for AA and IFV. Shot down at least 4 heli's and loop... loop... loop...

I had to kill BF4.exe.

Tagging for BF4 chats.

I love that gun!

I did finish this last night

I am loving the attack Jet. The stealth fighters are pretty useless because the bullets they use may as well be pinball's. Once I got the first couple of attack jet unlocks I starting to rack up the points.

Scope nerdiness:

That's exactly it. Flags capture based on how many more players a team has in the cap zone above what the enemy has. If the numbers are equal, the flag doesn't move, as it's a stalemate.

Yeah I think that match helped me figure out Conquest a bit more. We were just throwing ourselves at those tanks instead of going for control points. I finally decided to just run through the hills to the other control points and we managed to retake every one but wherever the tanks happened to be. I imagine that's trickier with more people on the map since teams can leave defenders but it worked pretty well in this case. We also had one or two people switch to our side a some point, I believe.

I noticed one thing the other day, but are Conquest service stars bugged or just super easy to get? I could swear I got one in almost every single conquest map we played one night. I'm not complaining, it's a ton of points, but just a thing that seemed weird to me compared to how relatively long it took to get sevice stars in BF3.

There has to be something bugged, I now have 10 of them with only 216,000 conquest points, that is one every 20,000 points which seems real too many.

Maybe it is including awards or other medals in its calculations which it probably shouldn't.

Your math works out for me too. I have 135k points in Conquest and have six service stars. You're right, it must be factoring in award and medal points too.
