Battlefield 4 - Catch-All (It's ALIVE)

Jokes on you. I audio corrected my Corsair 1500 headset so right side sounds play on the left speaker, only at a slightly reduced volume so it actually works alright.

Gadzooks, foiled again!

There was a guy on tonight that was 44-0. I heard complaints from a couple people that he couldn't be killed or something?

Maybe something to watch out for.

Also, Lancang Dam is very quickly becoming the map I don't want to play at all ever. I'd rather play Locker, then Flood, and then repeat both of them than play Lancang once.

This is true for me as well - I rarely realize that I've been promoted to Squad Leader, because the game has trained me to ignore the big pop-ups. Yes, thank you for telling me I got promoted ... and blocking my line of sight so that I got killed. Jerks.

On the console you can turn off award notifications until the end of the round. I'm sure the PC must have a similar switch. It's glorious!

Blarggh!

What is the deal with being shot through walls? It is normal? I understand some structures are made of flimsy looking wood, but the structures that have what look like solid walls -- can bullets penetrate them? As an example, I was on the map with the buildings sitting in water (flood zone?), climbed the stairs inside one of the buildings and poked my head out. I started taking fire and retreated down the stairs. I was killed when I was at least 5-6 feet down the stairs, with the kill cam highlighting the guy that shot me through the wall. Those walls look like they are solid concrete.

Don't invite pubbies to Vent, simple as that.

Agreed. I play to have fun, talk a little good-natured smack to friensd. Not be thrust into someones' personal struggles with racism.

Unfortunately, a pubbie could just follow the link on the server banner picture, hit the forums and find the Ventrilo server info thread and join up. No invite needed.

We also need to figure out a way to identify those who are slapping on the GWJ tags for the sake of getting VIP status. I've been here for over 6 years and I've seen more unfamiliar names on the server in the past week than I have in all of my 6+ years. If they want to come and register and participate on the forums, fine. Perhaps one of the third party admin tools will develop such a feature.

As for map rotation, why not put it to a vote via poll? There seems to be lots of maps that are love/hate amongst folks. I personally held a small candlelight vigil for the loss of Golmud Railway.

I like the Dam, but I think that's because it's a fun run-and-gun in the IFV map. If you don't like those, I could see it not being as fun.

Some of that is netcode. The enemy is shooting you when it looks like to them you're still in the open, but your client has already moved on.

That's just the wacky net code, on his screen it would have looked like you didn't get down the stairs fast enough. Hopefully they'll fix it before too long, because it's certainly a pain at the moment.

Got my first headshot right around 500m last night on paracel storm. I climbed up in front of A and picked up the 50 cal. Ended up hitting someone right in the bean on C. I was somewhere between 485 and 500 meters (I think). Poor guy was probably wondering wtf just happened.

Here is Levelcap talking about similar experiences to yours.

I LOVE domination on that map!

I don't know what the deal is, but I actually seem to occasionally be semi-functional in this game with a bolt action. In BF3, I was worthless. In BFBC2, I had my moments, but generally wasn't that good.

In this round, I killed 12 whole people with a bolt action rifle (unheard of in BF3 times), the majority at medium range attacking points with the recon balls.

Maybe that's it, my play style works better when I can throw something in front of me as I'm approaching to be able to set up, vs the TUGS that I have to sit still in an area to defend.

What if we do like other sites and require that people at least log in to Vent to be considered VIP?

The instability of this game is driving me crazy. The constant crashes are unacceptable, especially when you lose any stats you have gained during that game.

El-Producto wrote:

Some people here don't do Vent as discussed up thread.

I'd say before they're set as VIP in the future, send a PM to an admin.

Regarding the netcode... yeah it's super inconsistent.

At one point last night I died running toward a door and there wasn't even any gunfire sound. Then in the killcam the guy strafed out and fired at absolutely nothing. I can only assume that's just the server taking that full extra two or three seconds to report that guy's actual position to me. It reported mine correctly to him, but not vice versa.

Most of the time it's a lot closer than that even when it is off. That's just the worst example I've experienced personally.

Everyone I have added to the VIP list so far are valid GWJer's (and a few special friend requests) Some may not post as much, but they are here. There is no admin tool for BF4 which will allow different levels of VIP status. It's either on or off. We have five excellent admins for the server and they can kick/move/ban accordingly.

Currently there are 57 names on the VIP list, so on nights where it is full of GWJ'ers, I will kick someone to make room for a Paypal supporter. Its only fair. If the list starts to grow too large, I may adjust it to only include supporters of the server and the admins.

Oh FINE, I'll add it back

I read that the Procon admin tool is now working for BF4. I'll try to look into it a bit this week and see if I can get the Chat Filter, Vote Kick, and Map Vote plugins to work.

Had a great time last night. Learned three very important lessons:

1) Engineer is way more fun and profitable to play on Conquest maps than Assault.

2) I need to pull my HOTAS setup out of the closet to play with zoom zoom airplanes effectively.

3) Still can't pilot helos worth a crap.

I'm having a lot of fun as Engineer AFTER I unlocked Carbines, couldn't stand the PDWs.

I was on fire last night, a great night of BF4 for me. At one point due to a confluence of medals and a 50% XP bonus I got over 40K XP in one round. It was glorious.

Was so frustrated that I had my framerate glitch in the middle of this round and had to drop. You and I were doing so well in our crazy IFV run.

Yep, if only you could stay still for 3 freaking seconds while I tried to repair you

We were doing so well though!

Sorry. I've played so much solo IFV, that I'm in such a habit of evading vs getting repaired. Yell at me in squad chat.

I really like how the IFVs play very differently than MBTs in this game. Tanks are all about deliberately moving in slowly with infantry for the most part, caused partly because of the ammo reload change. IFVs, while dealing with the same ammo change, are fast enough to hit and run repeatedly on a similar push to an objective. If you start taking a lot of hits or locks, run, reposition to find the enemy and repair, then come back in.

In the little bits I've played this, I've enjoyed it a great deal. It feels better to me than BF3 did. I'm hoping to really dig in in between the giant amounts of papers I should be writing.

Still sticking with the Cartman though.

Classic.

With you on that one; after having finished out the support tree, was planning to do some more engineer but ended up on Flood Zone so thought, I'll try some recon; I'm having a ton of fun with the CS-LR4 and a baby 3.4x scope.
