World of Tanks: Catch All

Free garage slot! As much as I play the Tier III, IV and V tanks, you'd think I'd keep some of those little premium tanks, but the ones I've gotten never impress me. And, hey, a garage slot can always be used.

I tend to play for a few weeks, get annoyed at the MM, quit for 6 to 8 months, try again. Always amusing going in after a break, browsing the garage, and suddenly going 'wait, what? I don't remember that tank, what's an LTP?'

My Churchill I just earned 6 badges. Reaper, Top Gun, Sniper, Master Gunner, Sharpshooter, Mastery 'Ace Tanker'. 7 kills and I was the sole survivor of the match, first match of the day so 2xExp too. Good run.

You think?

Chewing through my herd of tanks for the first time in months, since before the 8.7 patch. Having some fun, such as that great Churchill run mentioned above.

And then I got to my beloved T-50. Looking at my service record, 20% of my fights have been in that tank. Many fond memories, so I fearlessly hopped in and took it for a spin.

No, not a spin, a stumble... insert pitiful sounding wtf? here.

That. That's my reaction. God of Battle, what have they done? Man, any enthusiasm I had for getting back in the game just vanished. New record, that, didn't even last a day...

A lot of scouts got their wings clipped. ELC is still wonderful. But the rest of them... not so much. There have been some good changes though.

Like the T-50-2, which got nerfed out of existence?

That was a sad day indeed. I used to love the Leopard and the Vk too. Now I just run a T71.

Yea, I'd say if anyone really wants a really fast light tank that can punch above its weight class, the T71 is unequivocally what folks need to be driving. Very fast, very agile and the autoloader can throw out some massive damage.

Though in T-X matches, I'd advise not bothering to shoot your gun at anything but artillery or a rear flanked AT gun

Eh, I'm pretty crap at light tanks when you get into the higher tiers. I've got the T71 unlocked and have even gotten a couple things researched, but my w/r in it is absolutely awful.

W/R isn't necessarily a very good indicator of how well you run a scout tank. The biggest problem I've found with scout tanks are that they're not only map dependent, but they're also support tanks that usually need something to spot for. Get stuck in Mountain pass with no artillery and you're not good for all that much except as a distraction. Finding yourself in one of the hemmed in maps with very limited avenues of approach makes running the scouts a pain at times.

Scouting tip for Mountain standard battles. If you get the northern start. I think it's north... the one where from the start, the ice road is to the left, and if you go to the right, at the next split the bridge is to the left. If you go the right at the split for the bridge, stay to the left and stop before the drop to the river right next to the rocks on the left, you'll get a fair number of spots as enemy tanks cross the other side to come up the east approach. Get there fast and just sit. I got there in my Hellcat once and had no less than 10 first spots (and a Scout medal) as most of the team went by.

Just got access (to the beta??) on the 360.

Balls hard, and I think I spend most of my time dead, wondering who killed me, but I am enjoyig it so far.

If you're enjoying it and have the computer for it, I'd highly suggest installing it there. Hop into the GWJ channel(which technically has a password that I never remember to enter when I roll it up in the mornings) and feel free to poke folks for platooning and such. I'm currently working mid tier French heavy tanks, but have tanks of all types unlocked.

My 5-year old Netbook would die if I tried it on the PC.

Once I get a real gaming computer, I will hop on the PC side.

The new little tank (LT-1?) is a kick for those of us (well me...I'm new:) that haven't been in a little tank with a big punch. Not to fast, but multiple shots. But long reload time. Fun.

And nice Halloween touch in the garage.

Do they ever allow arty, or for that matter some tanks to shoot smoke? Would really add to some tactical decisions and cut down the overpowering effect of some artillery laden teams imho.

btw, my first round with that had all these tanks on each side except 2 each for both teams. It was a hoot.

The new garage slot tank is the T7. And yea, playing low tiers for the next day or so will be like that

Wow. I suck at this, or at least on the 360 I do. I do wonder if it is because the people I am playing with are all more experienced than I am at this game. I think that I will have to play more relaxed and trying to be less helpful.

Probably a little bit of both. In general, the best advice I can give is to take your time and not rush. Look for spots where you can get cover, concealment or both.

Take your time with matches when you don't know what's going on. It'll let you see how the more experienced deploy, what they do, and where the fights end up. Also, sometimes being the light or medium in a pretty equal late match will mean all the difference between a W or an L.

Especially if you're playing one of the "glass cannon" lights that have a decent gun for their size. Having something maneuverable late in the game when everything is beat up can be a game-changer. While it's not a light/medium, I almost pulled off something like this the other night in my T25 AT. We had the north start on Peal River. I went up to the shrine to snipe. Our east flank in the hills got stalled, and our heavies that went around the north managed to cross the bridge. I came down off the hill and had been moving across the fields to support the attack on the enemy base. At this point, I note that the fight at the bridge had been lost and it looked like the defenders were going around the north to try to cap our base. I headed back to our base to defend. At that point, our forces in the east finally won and were starting to cap. This pulled the enemy attack back to defend, so I continued around the north path to come from behind. As I came around, we had one lone T32 holding out, but he was getting overwhelmed. I loaded premium rounds and hoped for the best. I got two quick kills in on their two most heavily damaged tanks, but at that point, they had two undamaged tanks. I got a couple more shots in, wondering why I wasn't seeing any friendly artillery fire (we still had our G.W. Panther). As I went down fighting, our GWP driver commented apologetically that he was out of ammo.

The T25 AT is a surprisingly mobile TD once you get it fully upgraded. If I'd had arty support (or even another heavy on the other side of the enemy), the battle would've ended much differently.

In another standard battle on Sand River in my Hellcat, a Dicker Max driver and I managed to secure a win on a battle that started as defensive fight where we were mostly a tank behind or even. I'd started with a defensive position and was having one of those games where I pointed my gun in the direction of things and they exploded. Amusing side note is the T-34-85 (dead at the time) Female Doggoing in chat about how we all sucked and should uninstall. One of my teammates responded "Including the guy with TG?" The guy with Top Gun was me. The enemy offensive stalled, and our D. Max driver got adventurous and pressed far into enemy territory. Seeing no more nearby targets and concluding the remaining enemy had dug in, I went to assist. Between the D. Max, myself and a Birch Gun, we turned the tide and secured a solid win. I had managed to get a Radley-Walter's medal. My teammates even gave me the last shot on the last enemy tank giving me 9 kills. Awesome contrast in conduct by teammates in that game.

Sorry, this is getting long. So basically, the biggest, and most annoying, mistake I see a lot of fast tank drivers doing (whether lights or Hellcats) is using their speed to just get in over their heads and just get a bunch of early spots and then die. The biggest strengths of mobility are to get out trouble, respond to an evolving battlefield, and get to a strategic spot first. Take your time to assess the situation, learn the limits of your tank and its best uses. As you get more experience, you'll have a better feel for when to push.

When I started with my Hellcat, I was one of those Hellcats that went zooming off and wound up racing the lights to see who would get blown up first. Then, I learned that I should sit back more and snipe, and use my speed to get out of trouble or take advantage of situations. Then, I played very conservatively for a while. I did okay, but I wasn't pushing and aggressing when I should, so my games were mediocre. More recently, I've been playing a bit more aggressively where I think it's warranted. While I definitely have stupid deaths, I've also had some phenomenal games.

This is me to a "T". I was playing the Hellcat as a scout with a big gun, but that's really not how it's best utilized. It's best utilized as a strong sniper with the ability to relocate rapidly to any theatre of the battle as needed. When I grokked onto that, I started doing pretty awesome with the little beast. It's given me many of my best games at tier 6 and I've pulled quite a lot of games from defeat into victory through careful play.

The Hellcat may just be my favorite vehicle I've played yet.

The M18 is definitely a joy to play, but be forewarned if you're not already aware: the line changes drastically from the 25/2 onward. However, if you really enjoy that sort of play style, I'd look at the French Heavy and French Medium lines.

French Heavy autoloader tanks(tier 8 on) are beasts of burst fire. The guns have excellent penetration values and very solid damage; combined with medium-like mobility and speed(and armor, sadly), they're very, very similar to the hellcat, albeit a bit more brawly and solid than the M18 is.

Mediums are much the same, with the Bat Chatallion autoloader being widely regarded as one of, if not the best medium tier 10. From what I've seen of it, it's a lot like a Hellcat, but with a beastly autoloader.

So far, the 360 version is still in Beta. Not a whole lot available. I am trying to find out how to unlock other tanks, figure out what the stars mean, etc. Heck, they haven't even unlocked crews yet, they just have them as coming soon. I think I am going to have to spend a couple of hours digging through the PC guides to get more of a clue.

Yeah, one of my buddies warned me that the T25/2 was going to be a lot less fun in comparison. He was right.

I'm still working up the line (it's one of three lines I've chosen for my first tier X's), as I do think the later ones will be fun in their own way, but I'm keeping the Hellcat around specifically for a straight up "I want to wreck sh*t and have fun" tank.

Thanks for the recommendations, this one in particular sounds intriguing to me.

One of the more popular Twitch streamers, here's a replay with a batchat.

Batchat? Explain plz.

thx

Bat Chatillion 25t. French Tier X medium tank equipped with a wicked, wicked autoloader cannon. Very good penetration, very high DPM.

edit 2: the editing: That video I linked is of a guy getting 8 kills and 4500 damge in one.

Tried the new, 'Team Battle' with public. Waited 5 minutes to find a team. Then got this: (42 point a team):

My Team:

T2
KV-3
ELC AMX
Panther/M10
M5 Stuart
M541 Stuart

Theirs:

3 AMX 50 100
1 JgPz 8.8
1 Tiger P

To say the least we got slaughtered.

The lesson learn: Lock slots so you can have smaller number, but bigger tier tanks. Not sure if there is a minimum number needed to play.

Other then that I saw, albeit at a quick glance, nothing other then what you would find in a public match. Standard game. Team chat (thought their might be some comm, but just looked like a cluttered chat box.)

I stopped the turreted line at the Hellcat and continued up the fixed gun line. The T25 AT is fun, and the T28 is a beast if frustrating.
