NFL 2013: Week 8

This is Tate's last year with Seattle and I can't imagine them re-signing him. He really is a modern day Hines Ward, I can see how when he's on your team you don't hate him but man I totally understand the hate. I always hated Hines Ward so much, yeah he played hard but then he was always smirking if he ever did anything right. Both Ward and Tate have injured very skilled linebackers that took them out for the season, now the blocks were legal but they were also vicious.

The only good thing to say about Tate is that balance of his, on about half his catches the defender will tackle him and Tate will shrug it off and still keep trying to move while the defender looks like a kid around his ankles.

Are you really using a "these are grown men" argument to defend something so childish?

Just ask 2006 Reggie Bush about finger waggling. Brian Urlacher was inconsolable for weeks. Weeks!

The taunting was childish and unnecessary, obviously. Act like you've been there before. The only "cool" thing that came from it was the claim that if Tate ever did that again, he'd be on the kickoff team for the penalty play.

Today is trade deadline day. Any big moves going to happen?

I'd still love to see the 49ers trade one of their 2nds for Josh Gordon. There are some knucklehead concerns there, but worth the risk for a team sitting on a stockpile of picks, IMO. How amazing would it be for Kaepernick to have Crabtree + Gordon + V. Davis all long-term?

The Jaguars are apparently "very open" to moving Maurice Jones-Drew if someone comes knocking. It didn't look very possible a few weeks ago with MJD still stuck in the mud, but he has gotten his wheels back (at least partway) over the past couple of weeks.

Tony Gonzalez quietly letting it known that he would be open to getting traded out of Atlanta, but Atlanta doesn't seem to be interested (why not?).

I thought Tate's taunting was pretty over-the-top and I wasn't surprised he was flagged, but Dominique Rogers-Cromartie did something pretty similar on a pick-six against the Redskins the other day. Caught it at about the 50, and spent the last 45 yards showboating and pointing at the offense. Not sure why one was flagged and not the other, but I guess Tate's was even more egregious.

Seattle players are just as classy as their coach. So not at all. :p

It's nice to know Sea and SF players/teams have something in common.

Taunting penalties are stupid, even if Tate was acting like a jackass. This reminds me of the big deal people made over the Randy Moss 'mooning' celebration. At best it deserved a chuckle, at worst an eye-roll.

So who wants Kenny Britt...?

*crickets*

I sure hope the Seahawks are at least talking to the Falcons about getting Gonzalez. He's a great blocker and would be perfect for Wilson.

Why wouldn't the Patriots roll the dice on him? They still think they're some magical mental rehab team and I guess with Talib they still have some of that juice left.

Perry Fewell (NY Giants GM) admits he has gotten some trade calls about Hakeem Nicks. He declines to say what his response was.

Supposedly the Panthers are interested in WR Hakeem Nicks of the NYG. The Panthers need WR help, and there's already a long-standing CAR-NYG pipeline.

But as a Panthers blogger noted, it might be cheaper to pick up Nicks (the pride of Charlotte Independence HS) during free agency and see if maybe they can get a hometown discount.

That would be Dave Gettleman calling about every 10 mins. Maybe it's going to happen.

Giants were 32:1 to win the division before the Philly win. Kinda mad I didn't throw a couple dollars on that.

Rodger-Cromartie's pick 6 was pretty bad, but Tate's was total garbage. Dude waved and jeered the last 25 yards in at the defenders. I think Legion's got the right of it, there's no way that what Tate did doesn't draw a flag by any crew in the league. But that doesn't mean that there aren't tons of these taunting penalties that go unflagged, with DRC's being a pretty solid example.

OK I'm bored. Someone trade someone!

Looking like Nicks stays a Giant (yay) for this season anyway.

Eagles trade Isaac Sopoaga and a 6th to the Patriots for a 5th.

You would have been throwing money away; nobody is going to win the NFC East, it's just somebody is going to lose it the least.

Boring trade deadline.

Super. There was that flurry of activity at the old deadline, but not the real one.

Yeah, I'm disappointed KC did nothing. Their offense is not close to enough to win playoff games. Unfortunately, I doubt there was help for their real problem on the OL.

But WR or MJD to spell Charles would have helped. While I would have loved to see Tony Gonzalez come back, I think they are okay at TE.

I think Gonzalez would have made sense, just because that guy would be cranked up to 11, coming back to Kansas City, on an undefeated team raring up for a postseason run.

and Atlanta doesn't lose much face as its NFC to AFC.

NFL is honestly a snooze fest when it comes trades.

Indeed. For a lot of positions, it's almost impossible to change teams in the middle of the season and step on the field and play effectively.

Wide receiver is a bit of an exception, as you can at least line up as the 3rd WR and work your way in gradually. And a veteran like Gonzalez has been around the game so long that he could probably transition in a way that a guy in the middle of his rookie deal wouldn't be able to.

You would assume that maybe you would see more Trent Richardson type deals though.

GM's get the scent that a certain young player/next year FA might be available and someone pulls the trigger to land him sooner than waiting later.

Then again considering how well that one is working out it explains allot why they don't happen

edit: I guess we cant complain. TB did cut their starting QB for nothing this year. Thats plenty of dramatics.

Looks like the Ravens let Michael Huff and Marcus Spears go. What happened to Huff? He was still playing decent ball last year, right?

Perry Fewell is the Giants D-Cord, FYI. Jerry Reese is the Giants GM

Texans have started very well!
