XCOM: Enemy Unknown - Strategy Game - Developed by Firaxis

Here's the new trailer:

If they have that trailer and then don't do base invasions I'm gonna be sad.

Is it me or does the Exalt faction bear a lot of resemblance to the XCOM: The Bureau?

Me likey.

Iv'e read in hands on articles the exact same thing so its not you;)

As for the base invasions of your base they said nothing.
But they said its your mission to find the base of the Exalt and invade that base.

Source: rock, paper, shotgun hands on;)

I was browsing the achievements for the game on Steam just now, and it looks like they've already added the ones for Enemy Within. One of them is entitled "All Hands on Deck" and to earn it you have to "Get at least 4 kills with XCOM Base Security personnel."

I'd say that pretty well confirms some sort of base defense...

SQUEEEE!!

Mwahahaha!

Jesus Christ. I was already gonna get this asap, but with this... it's beautiful. I distinctly remember hating base defense missions on the original, and this looks painful, yet, somehow, I must play this!

Tkyl, if you're at any liberty to say, is this a one time thing? Or can our base get attacked multiple times? I really hope you're at liberty to say.

The expansion definitely looks interesting

The one thing I don't recall happening in UFO Defense that would have been cool is for collateral damage during base defense missions to affect the functionality of the base. Like if the aliens take out a radar room your radar network is lessened. Or if equipment lockers are destroyed you lose materials. Seems like this would make the game a lot harder so it would have to be configurable, but it would really ramp up the tension.

The lastest Three Moves Ahead has an interview with the Enemy Within guys, and had some interesting tidbits come out. (They then spent the bulk of the podcast talking about twenty-year-old educational software, but that's why we love them.)

One of the most interesting things to come out was the addition of a new enemy, the Stalker. The Stalker is basically an invisible sniper killer, which should derail the somewhat OP tactic of sitting back and letting your snipers play Finger of God from complete and total safety.

Also some real interesting stuff about a new Second Wave option that randomizes traits between classes.

Take a listen if you're jonesing for some news.

Cross-posting from the Steam keys thread...

Does anyone have a spare code for XCOM: Enemy Unknown that they'd like to gift/swap/sell me?

I'd like to play Enemy Within - but I opted for the 360 version of Enemy Unknown, and I'd like to switch over to PC without having to re-buy the original game just so I can buy the DLC....

I have a Steam copy you can have Jonman.

It's been sitting in my inventory for a few months and none of my real life friends seem interested, so it's all yours if you want it. Sent a friend request

You, sir, are a gentleman and a scholar. I'd very much appreciate your copy.

Also, *man-hugs*

Playing through Enemy Unknown, I kept waiting for the base defense mission, and was pleasantly surprised it didn't happen. It just seems like such a cliche. Now that I've played through it, though, I don't mind getting that cliche with the other awesome in Enemy Within.

So I *just* started following this thread today, after doing two strong half-playthroughs on Xbox (kept getting distracted by the new shiny). Now I'm totally addicted on my iPad Mini (despite the crashes).

And now I find out Enemy Within is ONLY coming out for PC? Seriously, do I have to buy this game again?

Any chance this is in the Xbox or iPad's future? Or can I get on Jonman's hand-me-down list?

It *is* coming to Xbox, as a standalone game.

Reason I was asking for a PC copy of the base-game is that I can buy Enemy Within as DLC for the PC for $26, instead of the $40 required for the stand-alone 360 version.

OK, that's a relief. My PC is dreadfully underpowered, so I'm better off playing it on Xbox anyway.

And by the time EW hits the bargain bin, I might be finished with EU on the iPad - and maybe they'll announce EW for that too!

It's coming out for 360 and PS3 as well, just not as DLC. You need to get the Enemy Within disc.

Is it possible for me to Tannhauser MikeSands' Tannhausering edit?

I only ask because I just did. Well, only if he edits. Now I'm all confused.

Looking forward to this!

Highly favorable Rock Paper Shotgun coverage of Enemy Within:

Not crazy about the $40 XBOX pricetag but of course I'll buy this. This is THE game to play when I'm working out on the treadmill. I've run through the game at least 4 times now on the Xbox (and twice on the PC) and still haven't had enough.

Bring on the mechs, er MECs, and base defense!

Ha!

Live Stream of Enemy Within Multiplayer today at 3 PM (Eastern) on 2K Twitch Channel

Finally finished EU on my iPad on normal. I was a bit underwhelmed by the last mission, but oh well. Great game. I think I might have to upgrade to one of the new iPads so I can play it through without it crashing every mission on my next play through!
