Man I just don't get the difficulty curve of hardmode. Like what are you even supposed to do against these bosses.
The eater, eye, and skeletron are such pushovers compared to the Wall of Flesh so that was crazy enough but the hardmode bosses I don't understand at all how you're supposed to have a chance without exploiting or having a group...

It feels like there's more content I need to do to ramp up but from what I can tell to get the next tier of stuff I need to beat bosses so... I don't get where the fun is at here...

I basically started hardmode having a good time fighting the new lesser mobs and finding the new ores and now I've run into a brickwall.

You're not supposed to be able to just jump into the hardmode bosses. They only become trivial with the top end gear. Adamantite and a good weapon will get you past the destroyer and the eyes, maybe, and get you some hallowed bricks for better weps. You can improve you chances by spending time making traps and a good arena. Wings help too. Accessories start to become really important.

Made a new jungle arena, Roo got a key out of it so it seems to be working well. It's just to the right of the jungle entrance, you can take the teleporter there. I moved all of the critter-spawning statues over to the ice arena. To turn it on go up to each repeater and click it as if it was a switch. You can activate them or turn them off this way, didn't realize that before. Got an ice key from that arena, lots of fun!

I only need one more item to get my Ankh charm now, it's the map that prevents confusion. I think only mummies and bats drop it. I was farming light mummies in the desert by the left ocean and happened to get a hallow key out of it. No map yet though.

Haven't seen a solar eclipse on the server, though I've been through several blood moons. I think we have to defeat a mechanical boss, because that trigger was introduced in the last patch. I'll do that at some point tomorrow. Still need to make a proper arena for fighting pirates and the like.

So I discovered what I was missing: wings.
Took down skeletron prime easy using wings+spectre boots, Orichalcum headgear (for extra magic crit), and a Demonic Poison Staff (shoots out projectiles like a shotgun, 75 damage with 35% crit chance). Just flew backward spamming out my poison staff shots to take down the arms and then finished off the skull on some platforms.

I'm confused though because I thought it dropped some sort of soul. All I got was hallowed bars. Do the souls drop from the arms? Because I have no idea where those went down heh.

edit: took about a half hour to hunt down plantera's bulb. Brought it to the surface and fought it for about 5 minutes getting it almost to half HP. Flew to the side to avoid it's ranged barrage and it despawned........
that feel.....

Wow. Just hit hard mode; well named.

I've had a few solar eclipses on the server, hence the banners... but 0 drops worth mentioning.

...until today! *Polishes Terra Blade*

Crinkle and I just had a solar eclipse that dropped 5 or 6 broken hero swords. From famine to feast it seems.

Souls drop from the head. Souls are not affected by gravity so they can get stuck in the ground or midair.

Which makes all the worm-like creatures a real PITA.

Anyone have an inferno fork yet? I'm planning on going to farm one in the dungeon. Creature spawn is affected by the tileset of the dungeon area you're in (either brick, slab, or tile). For example, our farm spot in the dungeon has a brick background, so Blue Armored Bones, Skeleton Commandos, and Necromancers span there. Slab Walls spawn Rusty Armored Bones, Skeleton Snipers, and Ragged Casters, and Tiled Walls spawn Hell Armored Bones, Tactical Skeletons, and Diabolists. The banners are an indicator as well, but the background is what determines spawns.

Working on it, I still need my Paladin stuff too. I'm going to have a look around the dungeon to see if I can set up some more arenas.

A chlorophyte farm.

Managed to get The Twins down! Chlorophyte bullets + megashark is pretty strong.
Still haven't gotten Plantera down because it despawned YET AGAIN when fighting it the second time ;-;

I've never had planterra despawn. Weird.

It happens when it gets off screen sometimes. It's hard to avoid it's projectiles without getting off screen though.

Also I've seen videos where the player has a floating orb which shoots out lasers at enemies automatically but I can't figure out what it is. Anybody know the name?

I had plantera despawn on me when I was trying to drag it to the surface. Seems to happen if it gets entirely offscreen.

If it looks like The Sim's green diamond thing over their head then it's one of the bonuses from a full set of Chlorophyte armor.

Probably a Magnet Sphere, which you can't get until after you kill Plantera

It's not so good for boss killing, but a real treat for farming normals.

I killed Plantera
And The Twins
and The Golem

So about the dungeon in the jungle

Spoiler:

That was it? Farm all the traps and find almost nothing? Does my jungle dungeon just suck or what? I found f***-all for treasure/magic/weapons.

The temple is ALL about the boss, the rest of it is barely a footnote.

how do you get the boss to come out and play? :)

Spoiler:

There's energy cells in chests, use them on the altar.

I had quite a bit of fun with the Golem my strategy was to

Spoiler:

collect all the traps in the temple and concentrate them into the corner of the golem chamber. Then hook them all up to a switch on the other side of the wall, activate the altar, get behind the wall and spam the switch over and over. It was pretty funny to watch it get just melted by the traps. The lasers messed me up a bit but I had enough defense to hold through them while he died. About 65-70 defense and a couple greater healing potions.

edit: grinding for the magnet sphere again. I got a paladin shield drop and I was pretty excited. Then I got 3 more paladin shield's and 2 armor polish... and 3 keybrands... No magnet sphere yet.
Yesterday I got an Inferno Fork. This thing is awesome especially with added crit chance, it just shreds stuff.

edit: I finally took the time out to make an actual home instead of just using the "build as needed" stronghold style. I'm pretty satisfied with it http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/...

Now that the NPC hotel has fully automated trap defenses I don't have to worry about them so much either.

Made a small upgrade to the clubhouse. I rigged up a heart statue with a repeater right by the bed. So if you die and respawn you immediately get some health back.

Neat fireplace! I like that design idea.

I beat the golem the same way I beat all bosses now, hit them with the piranha and just fly in a circle.

Oh man Spectre gear is awesome. Hurray for not having to wait on potion sickness CD!

With Roo's help I added the Jungle Temple to the teleporter network. So if you need an item from the boss getting there is a snap.

But there's only so many batteries, right? Are there any left?

They drop randomly while in the dungeon, you can also loot them from other worlds. Roo needed help because his singleplayer world didn't have an altar.

Wow, I'm impressed by the Shroomite armor. It has only 5 less Armor than Chlorophyte with the helmet. It's a ranged armor, so you can be a ranged spec and have close to the armor of a melee spec.
