Let's Do the Extra Life 25 Hour Charity Event Together! Nov. 2nd

Yeah, I mentioned in my video using either the GWJ Vent server or if that wasn't cool, just setting up my own. I thought it would be cool cause like you said, people can just hang out and chat, even if they aren't playing anything. I think there's a few people on the Vent server who have the access to create rooms but I'm not sure who any of them are.

Also Chris, Xeknos is Steve Everett. :)

Late, but yes, I am Steve.

Threw together a first stab at a schedule. Specifically for the afternoon game of AoE2, GoME, MWO, LoL, and BF4 would love to group up with people, I have several people maybe joining from outside GWJ for those games.

Right now I just have a giant block of BF4 to close it out, looking to probably diversify a bit but not sure it really matters what I end up playing from 2AM-8AM since this is mostly to try and get groups together.

I think I'll be doing a sort of mini Metroid Marathon, in order but only with the games I actually own: Prime 1, Prime 2, Super Metroid, then Metroid Other M. I'm not sure yet what I'll do after that - probably something on the Wii, though.

Neat idea regarding the schedule Kamakazi010654! I used yours as a basis to quickly draw up one for myself:

Seeing as I'm based in Japan I might be one of the first to start my stream. I'll do my best to stay online after my 25 hours to support the rest of you. Luckily that's a 3 day weekend here in Japan so I should have plenty of time to recuperate!

I've set up a Ventrilo account on the GWJ server but seeing as I've never used Ventrilo before I might take some time to actively participate in the chats!

Hopefully I can get some BF4 time in with the rest of you since that's the only multiplayer PS3 game I've got schedule.

For those of you that have done this sort of thing before, any tips for those of us giving it our first shot? I'm guessing stocking up on coffee and energy drinks might be useful!

FYI for those playing BF4 friend me up if you're not already. I come back from training late on the 1st so i'll be binging on this rest of the weekend and wouldn't mind the company in the wee hours.

I think I've got you friended already. Yeah, I suspect BF4 will be a big part of the day for me. I'm going to try to do up a schedule as well to see how much co-op interest I can garner in certain titles.

Some friends are still trying to convince me to run around with them as a female pink azuran mesmer in GW2 for the period; but more likely I'll be with the BF4 folks

Agreed, neat idea to schedule it out! I decided to try and knock down a bit of my backlog, so they take up the majority of my schedule. I'm going to make an attempt at playing Amnesia for two hours in the middle of the night, and then finish out with some bright, cheery games and all the lights on.

I don't have a very large hard drive, though, so I may lose an hour downloading games.

Yeah I was thinkinga bout switching to backlog games in the middle of the night get a few hours in multiple games instead of spending the whole time on BF4, just sort of play that one by ear probably.

I think I'll be posting a schedule of sorts by the end of the week as well, though I'll sort of have some blocks open for various multiplayer games. You guys are doing some serious chunks of time, though. I was planning on two hours on each game max.

I'm definitely going to be doing longer blocks for my games as well, largely because each title has to be configured and tested in XSplit, I can't just feed a capture device into it like I can for consoles. I'll be testing out everything I hope to play with people that day, in addition to my solo backup games.

I was an XSplit fan, but for pure PC work have switched over to OBS; while XSplit is great for Lets Play, OBS seems to have less impact on my system for live-streaming, and produces better quality results.

Really? I might have to look into it. I am actually a bit concerned about my PCs ability to stream BF4 at any kind of quality.

OBS is nice but I like the additional scene features that XSplit has. It's funny, both products have a lot that's good and bad about them and a lot of those things don't cross between the two.

Infuriating thing with OBS is there's a nice amount of depth and scene editing features; but they hide them in right click context menus that aren't always in the most obvious places

One of the things I love about XSplit is the ability to play videos in scenes. That allowed me to make my away screen for last year entertaining at least. OBS still doesn't do that. But that's a niche problem hardly worth paying for XSplit for.

There's a plugin for it, that while beta works reasonably for loop sources. More details can be found here.

So something I'm considering: I'm not a coffee person, but I have drowned tea in honey and found it tasty enough. There's such a thing as caffeinated tea, yes? That should be easy to prepare? And tastes significantly better than coffee?

Green tea is usually caffeinated, but there's not really a ton of caffeine in tea normally.

I just asked about caffeinated teas in the tea thread not that long ago and got some nice responses.

http://www.gamerswithjobs.com/node/4...

short answer:

Irish and English are both blacks which are going to give you the most caffeine. Caffeine content in order from strongest to weakest goes: black > Oolong > green > white and then herbal/rooibos which are caffeine free.

Yep; box of Tetleys or PG Tips will set you up well. Why many of us colonial imperialists have never latched onto coffee as much

I'll have to give a green tea a try I suppose. I just don't want something that tastes terrible.

Which, when it comes to caffeine, is rough, as I'm not a fan of bitter flavors.

So I think I'll probably be largely winging it with my schedule. I can't get anyone I ask to commit interest to the titles I have on my list but if we have a decent group hanging out in Ventrilo with us, I imagine it won't be hard to just say at some point "Hey, anyone wanna' play this game?" and then one can quickly form. That'll probably be easiest.

I'm probably going to opt out of Ventrilo (although the idea does sound interesting) just because I'm going to be playing with my kids and various other people are coming over.

My contribution to the multiplayer aspect is that I'll be playing Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (Wii U) in the evening/night, if anyone wants to join my room I'll make sure the password is 'stan'.

I would be up for Magicka, BF4, and/or L4D2 coop anywhere from 8AM - 3PM, I can reconfigure anything in that time frame. The only things I am really stuck on is the GOME->MWO->LOL set since I think I have at least somebody playing all of those with me. MechWarrior Online is F2P if you are interested.

EDIT: Oh and War Thunder looks cool as well, downloading that now.

If we could get a foursome for Magicka, I would love to play that as I barely have and I know it's supposed to be a riot in multiplayer. BF4 I expect to be playing a lot of as well. I have MWO installed but haven't touched it in months so I can do that. War Thunder is indeed good, as is Blacklight: Retribution which actually has a co-op Horde mode. Anyone else here have Killing Floor? I've heard that's another really good co-op zombie title but like Magicka, I've had it installed forever and never played it.

I have played just about no Magicka as well, one 30 minute coop section is all I did, just enough to sort of learn how to do things.

So it turns out that we're getting back in town early Saturday afternoon. I've made it about half way through Magicka so if you need a tour guide I might be up for it if you're planning on rolling with that in the evening.

Did anyone else get an e-mail from Extra Life with free copies of RIFT and Defiance? o_O

Yep, just got it.

Interesting way of advertising I guess. Get copies out to people who might stream them to others.

I might check them out.
