The Halloween Scare-All

I've been saving Cabin in the Woods for this month! Pretty excited.

I watched it last night on Amazon Prime streaming (also available on Netflix streaming), and it was AMAZING. Highest possible recommendation! Not just for traditional horror fans (I'm not a frequent watcher of horror movies myself).

Co-written and produced by Joss Whedon, in case anyone did not know.

SO FREAKING GOOD! Watch it tonight, and do not read anything about it beforehand! Don't even see a preview! Just watch it!

Here are some Reddit threads where people posted stories about their encounters of the creepy kind (some also include non-paranormal events). I always get a kick out these type of ghost stories.

Halloween is around the corner...
What was the most paranormal experience...
What is the scariest thing that has ever happened to you...

i love reddit stories. Thanks for sharing!

I went to put up my Halloween decorations and discovered one of my family members had washed the cut up dirtied fabric that I hang in the front of the house. Now I have to apply more dirt. hmmmm.... otherwise decorations are up and looking good.

I will be 'on vacation' that week visiting family in Florida, but I do have a Dr Who costume I've been putting together for a party we're going to October 27. So for Halloween night I'll probably wear the costume answering the door all night at my mother-in-law's house.

The wife and I have been discussing that. Except of course, which Doctor (I don't own a bowtie) and which companion we could be?

I made an awesome Chuck costume a couple years back and no one really got it. I even used this web site that let you make a Buy More ID with your picture, and printed it out for a name badge and everything. Bought some cheap shoes and it was quite authentic I think. Apparently just not enough people watched Chuck. :(

I'm going as the 11th doctor (Matt Smith). I found a good tweed jacket at a thrift store and Amazon has cheap bow ties and suspenders. My wife wants me to wear a fez, too; not going to happen, though. She found a blue skirt that she is going to sew TARDIS window dressings on and is going to wear a white blouse with a bow tie. I recommended the Amy Pond police outfit for her, but she said no to that one.

I found a pretty inexpensive Tardis dress at Hot Topic this year. It looks like they still may have some in their online store. Daleks, too.

I have an adult Halloween party next weekend, and I have no costume. Help.

Go as sexy pizza.

Dragon. Have your date go as a car.

Procure lampshade for head.

Find large cardboard box and cut out a 35" diameter circle, then cut out an interior concentric circle large enough for your waist(above hips).

Find old table cloth and cut hole in middle to drape over cardboard circle.

Ta-da! You're a "one night stand!"

I knew a guy in college who went as Crazy Plastic Spoon Man. He just taped plastic spoons to his shirt. In short, it's all in how you sell it.

This.

I'd also say the other easy costume option is the mad scientist/pharmaceutical test subject: buy an inexpensive white lab coat or scrubs from a medical uniform supply store, acquire a glass or plastic(preferred) graduated beaker, and a small eye dropper of purple/green/orange/pink food coloring. Throughout evening, add food coloring of your choice to the clear or mostly clear beverage of your choice and drink from said beaker. Enjoy.

No costume? No problem, Oz in a very old episode of Buffy has the solution; IMAGE(http://images2.fanpop.com/images/photos/6600000/Oz-as-God-buffy-the-vampire-slayer-6641285-1024-576.jpg)

Runaway, runaway!

Here are two that I came up with this week:

flip flops, shorts, beach hat, red and olive green striped Hawaiian shirt, glove with razor blades: Casual Fredday

toga/forum robes, stick one hand down your pants: Caesar Adjustus

Tucker and Dale has gone free on Amazon Prime, so I watched that last night. Good stuff! Though I saw a ton of weird motion smoothing / pan and scan type behavior. Anyone else see that with this movie?

Very enjoyable, and definitely an interesting complement to Cabin in the Woods, which I watched two weeks ago.

Hansel and Gretel Witchhunters = Pretty good.

Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter = Not bad

Clownhouse = horrible

Curse of Chucky = It had it moments but not very good.

Don't know what I'll watch next.

Maybe check out Maniac, starring Elijah Wood. I thought it was pretty gripping.

Go to Netflix Instant. Search the word "shark." Start from the left.

Happy Hair Metal Halloween!

I know they're credited for being one of the founding bands of power metal, and I know the Keeper of the Seven Keys albums are pretty sacred amongst the crowd, but hot damn do I like their later albums better.

Still, it's Helloween. There's always something to love.

I got lazy this year, and still ended up terrifying. Shoulda grabbed a baseball bat, and a synth playing boombox, and claimed i was Hotline Miami.

I know we have a Christmas avatar thread, and I thought we also had a Halloween avatar thread, but search came up empty. I guess this thread will have to do.

Time to dust off the zombified avatar again.

Oh, hey -- my spooky avatar is back. It must have been lurking in a dusty crypt waiting for the Halloween season.
