NFL 2013: Week 6

Actually, Bear Bryant definitely misstated his players and was a hard ass to a fault, at least, prior to his time at Bama. He was at Texas A&M previously, and you may have heard of the "Junction Boys" who went through his training camp in Junction. He'd do things like withhold water during summer practices in Texas.

The thing is though, if you look at his time everywhere else, and his time at Alabama, it's like night and day. Yea, he might have been a dick at one point, but to paint his entire career with that same brush is ludicrous. Also, it's worth noting that he was hardly the only coach doing stupid stuff like that anyway.

Anyway, I'm still very much of the opinion that he's in a completely different league from guys like Schiano, who have done nothing but tear their players down, publicly and privately, and it's something that shows when you look at the results.

Bear Bryant was the only coach to leave Kentucky with a winning record in the last 60 years. At least give him credit for that.

Or just acknowledge how bad Kentucky sucks at football... for 6 decades straight.

They're too busy spending their entire sports budget on Basketball.

I didn't see anyone not giving him credit for being a winning coach. I'll even give him additional credit for coaching Texas A&M's first Heisman winner, John David Crow.

I meant the article.

I was replying to Stele, but maybe he meant the article, too.

I just saw an opportunity to make fun of UK in the NFL thread and took it. Just being a good rival.

And a reminder to all you Jacksonville fans... at least you're not Kentucky fans. :p It could always be worse.

Pack d is holding Flacco but the offensive is just so frustrating to watch.

Sure the line isn't great (3sacks) but at some point some of the blame falls on Rodgers (2strips but recovered).

He really needs to start forcing the ball out and risk picks if the alternative is fumbles.

Finding new ways to comically f*ck up.

I wish the sports bar in watching the chiefs game would just shut down the Rams audio. No one is watching.

I hope next week the Chiefs can blister the Texans the way the Rams seem to be doing. The look like poop versus the Raiders today.

Reid is getting a dose of what Raiders Week means in KC.

Finally got some points on the board. Pryor, who is doing his best JFF impersonation, is starting to get frustrated.

Oh, Arrowhead is rocking.

I'm watching a Mike Glennon-Nick Foles QB matchup. It's like Elway-Montana, except not at all like that.

Friend is a big chiefs fan flew from Ottawa to catch his first game.

Would love to hear his impressions. The first time you drive into that parking lot can be a surreal experience. They take tailgating seriously.

And for it to be the Raiders, to boot, will make it even more amped. Hope he has a great time.

I may be biased and everyone expects Oakland to rack penalties, but double f**k these zebras.

So Schaub gets benched and Yates proceeds to throw a pick six for 98 yards.

Two INTs for Yates. Not looking good there.

The Good Panthers showed up today. Didn't see that coming, not after last week.

Edit: Bad Panthers are still lurking just under the surface. Their last play:

3-17-MIN 46(13:37) (Shotgun) C.Newton pass short right to T.Ginn pushed ob at CAR 41 for -13 yards (M.Sherels).

Apparently the thing in front of the "13" is a minus sigh. Good lord.

Oakland just punted, and failed to get past the first down marker. Well, it was 4th and 48.

For the fourth time in five games, Tampa is about to lose almost entirely because of stupid mistakes. Jumping offsides on 4th and inches with less than 3 minutes left, four good Doug Martin runs called back by holding penalties, blown coverages, general stupid play. Seriously, this team is just dumb. The "good" news is there are reports that Greg Schiano was indeed the guy who leaked the news about Freeman being in the drug program for using the wrong ADHD meds, and I would like to believe that would be serious enough that Tampa will can his stupid @#$!!! with cause so he doesn't get paid the rest of his contract.

Well, to clarify this, it wasn't so much that he was benched, but that he came out on an injury. And got booed.

He has no arm.

WTF is Cincinnati doing in OT with Buffalo?

I must have missed the end of regulation. I thought the Bengals were up 2 TDs and cruising...

Is there anyone in the Tampa area right now who would punch Greg Schiano in the dick for me? I'll pay your bail, buy you lunch, rent a couple of billboards to thank you publicly.

Well I wasn't really planning on going to Tampa until the Dec 15th 49ers game. He might not be there by then.

Well I was upset until I heard Alex Smith referred to as something to the effect of, "just the right spark they needed at QB". I feel much better now.

Please tell me I heard that wrong.

I have to admit being surprised that Yates (a) made an NFL roster and (b) managed to hang on.

He was only serviceable at UNC. Granted, he's the Tar Heels' all-time leading passer by a mile. (To be technically, it's about a tenth of a mile over Darian Durant.)

Other guys on the UNC all-time passing list: Bryn Renner (the current starter), Ronald Curry (the two-sport star who was good but not great in hoops, too) and Matt Kupec (best known for dating Tyler Hansbrough's mom).

He's no Terrell Pryor, that's for sure.

I didn't get sound for the game. Mostly it looked like Reid followed the Schottenheimer Plan. Just wait for the Raiders to implode, then profit.

It's the Bengals.
