NBA 2k14

2k14 y'all!

Crew mode returns!...

...but only for current-gen versions D:

I doubt I can endure a year, but I kind of want to wait for 2k15 and hope they get this implemented on PS4.

Damn, might have to look into this. It's been too long since I picked up an NBA game. I love EA Sport's Hockey League where I can play with my guys against other teams online.

So far really enjoying this. This is the best feeling basketball game I've ever played. The whole flow of the game seems so much more natural, and the AI seems pretty good without tweaking.

I really like the new passing controls, but haven't learned all of the new controls.

PC version BTW, and have only started the Lebron challenges.

Got this yesterday from gamefly and starting the career mode or whatever it's called. Seems pretty fun which is surprising as I despise basketball in any form in RL, but seem to like video game basketball. Weird...

This is a huge step up from 2K13 in the gameplay department. And only cost $22.50 day-of-release on PC, rather than $60 at release on a console or $30 three months later on PC.

How so? I've been reluctant to "upgrade" because I really like 2k13. I've played almost 100 games online. Lost about 60% of them, but I've been in most of them. I'm not the best at the game, but it's become one of my favorite online sports gaming experiences. There are cheesers, but they seem to be fairly easy to counteract and I haven't enjoyed the competition like that since APF2k8. Criminy, that's a long time since I really enjoyed a sports video game online.

My only beef with the online play is how difficult a bounce pass is. I would swear that my record would be flipped if I could just throw a bounce pass.

In other words, I'd love to be enabled on 2k14.

That's not weird. I hated soccer, but loved video game soccer. Now I kind of actually like watching soccer. Now that I understand it better. Maybe the same will happen to you.

Hockey, although I didn't hate, was this way for me. Starting with NHL 09, I really started to understand and watch real hockey more. I tried the same for soccer, but I found the games as boring as the game on tv.

I always consider picking up the NBA game, but I just can't justify another sports game in that time frame. I spend too much time with NCAA and NHL to add NBA to the mix. If they would do a college version, I'd probably jump on it in a second, though. I just don't have enough of an attatchment to an NBA team to get invested in the league.

I think NBA 2K is an awesome series I should play more, though.

Defense matters. Height matters. You can't just jack up contested threes all day because you've got a 90 in Shot 3PT and be competitive. Players move more realistically. Picks are harder to do correctly and bad picks are less useful. The control scheme is further streamlined, including making pick calling faster and easier. Passing is less automatic.

It's a more realistic, better iteration on 2K13.

I agree with Ed Ropple, especially in the back picks / movement area.

Brick Wall is now useful, too, btw. I made a power forward in MyPlayer who was ruining guards' days with picks that didn't even connect fully.

Now that, ladies and gents, is detail.

FYI, the digital download for the XB1 version is on sale for $40 on XBL right now.

That looks amazing.

I have 2k13, but after hearing the reviews of 14 I think I will get that too when I get the Xbox1

It's worth it for the eye candy alone.

Interesting.

I skipped 2k12. Played 10 and 11 extensively though. Own 13, but I never finished a full season of My Player or franchise mode. So I'm pretty hesitant to get 14 when it seems I didn't really play enough 13.

PC version is tempting though. Saw it on the Steam sale the other day too, so it will probably be discounted down to $22.50 again in a couple weeks for the next Steam sale.

14 is really really good. From a gameplay perspective it's my favorite of the series. I play online quite a bit and aside from people abusing LeBron I find it to be quite enjoyable.

It actually got down to $14.99 during the Steam sale as a Flash sale. I imagine it will hit that again for the Holiday sale.

I'm definitely tempted. Does anyone know the differences between the PC and console versions? Will I be missing out on anything amazing by picking up the PC version?

Depends on whether the PC version is more like the PS4 / XBox One versions or more like "last gen". For my money the "last gen" NBA 2k14 is much better than the next gen version.

Why is that? I have both now, and they seem to play the same. I just deleted my 360 version from the hard drive last night. And NBA 2K14 is an amazing looking game.

But I'm not really a hardcore basketball player, and never play online. Am I missing something, as I didn't really did into either version very deeply.

Also, what camera angle do you guys usually use. I'm trying to decide if one of the more up and down angles would be better than the broadcast. I've typically played all of my basketball games from a broadcast-like side view. But I get a sense that, like hockey, I would get a better view of passing lanes if I changed.

Next gen NBA2k will eventually be better. It's becoming clear that even though the 360/PS3 generation was quite adequate, the inability to get that extra bit of sharpness and fidelity meant that it was a bit harder to discern what was happening in an action-heavy game. I'm finding not-inconsequential differences in my ability to discern the world I'm operating in. I've seen that in BF4, ACIV and NBA2k14. However, the engine in next gen NBA2k feels much different and consequently the game plays differently to me. That part may be subtle. And it may not matter next to the whole package to most people. But I just find that I enjoy the last gen version more.

I find the on-court product in the next-gen version far superior, but the servers seem unstable and the parts of the game you actually want to play pretty much require those connections.

I hear the PC version is the 360/PS3 version.

And...

PC version is currently $14.99 on Steam as part of the VGX promotion.

Same price again today (and tomorrow) for the holiday sale daily deal.

Picked this up for my XBO, and DAMN is it complicated! I'm lucky to score 6 freaking points!

You really need to spend time in the tutorial mode. I've run through it twice, and still go back to work on certain skills.

Also, and this is huge, go into the options and turn on play art. Make sure you choose All Plays. I also set it to tell me what play is being called, and set both offensive and defensive play calls to Auto.

This will help guide you on where to go, and who to pass it to, and slowly, you will differentiate between plays. You probably med to set it to Auto so that you don't run the same play all the time.

I never played competitive basketball, so much of the strategy is foreign to me. You are not required to follow the plays, but you will start to see how to move the ball down low.

Learning some post moves will help a ton. Think of the RS as controlling ball in your hands, and the LS as controlling your feet. Quick RS moves will allow you to fake and set up shots. Holding it will trigger a shot.

The other alternative is to give NBA Live a shot. Its much more approachable. It's also a much better game than it is reviewed. It is definitely not as polished or deep as 2K14, but I still really enjoyed it. Its much better than its demo, and they have patched and improved it more since it released.

I went back to 2K14 because I liked using play art to learn the game, and I still like playing with the various classic teams. And 2K14's presentation is pretty amazing.

Wish next Gen got crew mode or I would have this

Next year I'm staying away until January. The server situation has been terrible three years running now, and we're over two months from launch. I get that the load increases during Christmas, but if they're going to make 90% of the game require a connection to their servers they need to get this under control.

Yeah. My player is screwed up at the moment.

MyGM as well. Their PR guy said something on twitter a couple hours ago about them working on it.

I really wanted to play tonight, because I found an absolutely raucous frontcourt combination - Anthony Davis and Andre Drummond. Driving the lane against that pair is just folly!

Did they take offline mode out of the GM/Player modes? I never okay then online because I have no interest in the IAP abuse.
