I enjoyed the ride.

Still a little unclear on the last few minutes and why that was necessary? :?

It was not.

I want a show about steering a small personal water craft into a hurricane, having the boat smash to pieces and still be alive as a crazed killed lumberjack. 5 seasons can be dedicated to the hurricane with one for lumberjack killing fun - If a man falls in the woods and no one is around to hear him scream, does he still make a sound?

Mostly I was just annoyed when they didn't have the guts to follow through on where the ending seemed to be going. That last scene kind of ruined the effect, and the effect already wasn't great.

I could have lived with hte ending if it stopped at the hurricane, the last few minutes was a BS have your cake and eat it too thing that ruined the ending.

Well it would have made sense if

Spoiler:

he was actually going to be prosecuted for killing Saxon. Then you could say ok, he has to fake his death to keep from going to jail. But as it was, Angel let him walk out, Quinn practically patted him on the back for killing the guy, and so he was free to run off to Argentina, and start a family and have a life.

So why the hell does he fake his death?

That seems to be it. And that's pretty disappointing.

I unfortunately did not like the way it ended. It was pretty selfish of him to go into lumberjack hiding mode. Making yourself dead was a smart move but it's so senseless to leave your son behind because of your own self pity.

I don't know it's just dumb. Loved this show aside from the Battlestar season but this kind of left me with a sour taste.

It stinks!

Agreed.

Dexter drove his father to suicide, got Rita killed, got Vogel killed, got Debra killed. I think it's understandable that he'd consider himself poison.

To many new useless characters were introduced. I don't think the killer training killers and killing them part was played out very well. Seems pretty easy taking bodies from hospitals. The capture of the bad guy was boring. Dexter not having to pay the devil his due didn't seem right. I would have liked to see him dead or in jail. They might have well just ended it with him walking down railroad tracks like Bruce Banner instead of the Lumberjack stare. Very poor ending to the series.

I never did read any of the books that this was based on. How did they end? Or have they?

They are not over. Dexter is on a remarkably different path in the books as opposed to the show. PM me if you want some major book spoilers.

I don't oppose this ending. Sure, I'd love for him to abscond to Argentina and live a happy blood spattered life with Hannah and Harrison, but I also can fully get behind the idea that serial killers, no matter how good intentioned, don't get happy endings.

The biggest problem for my wife and I was that he left his son behind. Not just that, but left him with a known and wanted murderer that he had only recently ke-kindled a flame with.

I was also expecting it to go one of two ways, either caught or dead. I think it would have been fine (and potentionally shocking) to break that mold in some way, but man would it have been satisifying to have Doake's named clear and all his co-workers shocked to find out. What we got wasn't satisfying at all.

The other issues I had with this season is it didn't really seem to go anywhere. Dr Vogel should have been introduced in a previous season to make her feel more meaningful. Dexter's emotional connection and concern for her seemed a little too strong for someone he had recently met, even if she was her dad's old psychiatrist. Deb trying to kill Dexter then saving him, Dexter trying to train another serial killer, and several other stories just seemed completely pointless for a final season. There was no build up. They also could have done something with some of the other characters like Masuka (like him being the only one to find out Dexter was a serial killer), just so we had kind of a last hurah.

It's a genius meta ending.

See, Dexter hurts everyone who care about him. Even his fans.

So I'm finally caught up, only had the last episode to watch and we watched that last night.
I'm really, really disappointed by the ending. First off, Deb taking unexpectedly a turn for the worse felt forced. I'm no trauma surgeon, but it just came out of nowhere. There were lots of groans and "you've gotta be kidding" to be had. By the end, I was honestly hoping that Dexter would be lost with the story, the series dead and done.
Now it just feels as if he could shave his beard and go back to normal if he wanted. Ugh.

And like PoderOmega, the biggest problem I had was him abandoning his son. That's just... Baffling. I don't care how toxic he thinks he is, he's always been an okay dad to Harrisson and a son needs his father.

Anyhow, just disappointing.

My wife and I just watched the finale, and thought it was perfectly dreadful in every way. The last season as a whole was awful.

I would have liked to have seen him kill himself with his own knives. It ended with a meh- but that seems about right. As much as I like the show as a whole, it never seemed to know what it was doing right- kinda falling into the good as easily as it fell into the disappointing.
