NYC/Metro Area Slap & Tickle Thread

Fun to see people and meet new ones!

Graham is taller than I expected.

My wife was jealous that I got to drink beer.

It was great meeting everybody. We need to do another S&T again sooner rather than later.

I got there late, but it was still nice meeting everyone!

It was a great to meet new faces in the Secret Goodjers Society chapter of the Greater New York. I regrettably had to leave too early -- way before everyone started really nerding it up, as they should have.

A Wednesday?! I wish I checked this earlier but I still wouldn't have been able to make it I'm in CT so a Saturday would have been much more convenient. Maybe next time though!

Hey everyone, it's Steve. It was great meeting everyone yesterday!

Hi Steve! Great meeting you!

Heh, Slumberland, I thought you were GWJ username Seth.

Ugh. I'm really sad I missed this, actually. Like, genuinely.

Well, how about this? Is anyone doing NYC Comic-Con this year? If so, what days?

In semi-related news, I have a costume idea that meets my qualifications of being incredibly dumb, hilarious to me, and a lazy, lazy, lazy man's costume.

Yup, we're gonna be there all four days again. Probably just cosplaying on Friday-Sunday, though. This year I've got two costumes lined up, with a potential third, if I get ambitious.

I just bought two tickets for Sunday. I don't know who's going with me, but they had me at John Barrowman AND Garreth David Lloyd.

We're coming up on New York Comic Con (October 10-13) at the Javits Center. I'm going to be there all four days - anyone else coming? Last year, I had a great time hanging out with Prederick for one of the days. Would people be interested in meeting after convention hours for a slap and tickle?

AKA - bump!

My wife and I will be there Saturday and Sunday. Would love a meetup with anyone who is going. I think we are going to be taking the train (I live in CT) both days rather than staying over.

This is very, very tentative, but as I won't be making Escapist Expo after all, that may be a consideration.

I got tix for Sunday.

I was gonna get tix, but then I got my She-Hulk trades 1 thru 4 signed by Dan Slott elsewhere in NYC, largely negating my primary desire to hit up Comic-Con this year. If I make it, it'll probably be for Thursday, if there's still tickets available.

Hi, not sure if this thread is still active, but this looks like the most appropriate one to post that...

Close friends of mine are opening a game-focused coffee shop in NYC:

Thats a cool spot right near NYU. I would be down to meet up there after work if it gets funded.

Nice! Out of the way for me, but I'd be happy to head down for get-togethers. Would have been better a few years ago when I worked three blocks away

It will open. The KS is only for extras. He said they're aiming for before Halloween, in fact.

Unrelated to a Goodjer meetup, but Astronaut Chris Hadfield is having a talk and book signing November 1st at the Barnes and Noble in Union Square: http://chrishadfield.ca/booktour/bar...

Ooh..

Also, looks like the Uncommons is having their opening party tomorrow; I'm not going to be able to make it, unfortunately, but I look forward to hanging out there in the future.

There's going to be a Starcraft 2 tournament broadcasted at Nevada Smiths on Saturday 11/9 from 1pm-11pm in case anyone is interested. Apparently, there's going to be Starcraft themed cocktails.

Would anyone be interested in an after work meet up Monday-Thursday? I am only in the city on weekdays and the weekends are always filled with family obligations etc.

Those are tricky for me, since I work in Westchester and am usually only downtown on weekends. Still, I'd be willing to give one a shot - Mondays and Thursdays would work best for me.

I'll be out of town week after next, but with enough notice I'd be down for some after work drinks somewhere.

I should be in the city the 18th - 22nd of this month and would be up for anything that happens then.

Like others, with adequate notice I would be more than happy to meet up.

After work generally doesn't work for me as I have to get home to relieve the baby sitter. Saturdays are great though as it's just me and the kid, and he's really good with company.

So with a tentative date of July 19th, I and a number of friends are planning to invade NYC (like ants invading Moscow) for Escape the Room. However, we want to make a bigger day out of it than that, so we're trying to come up with other things to do or locations to visit on a budget such as the Maid Cafe.

Problem is, none of us are very familiar with New York City, don't really know what the easiest way to get around is or how much it'll cost, and none of us will be able to spend the night. So we're hoping to be able to arrive early enough to do the Escape the Room around 1pm, and then... well, the night is young at that point.

Therefore, I figured why not see what you guys can recommend or if anyone wouldn't mind being recruited as our Sherpa of the City.
