Switch Main Server for WoW?

I don't want to be too hasty in switching, especially after all the work that Certis and really everyone has put in. But BH is really getting to be a pain.

I say we pick another server to use during the downtimes and that EVERYONE get on it. If BH sorts it self out, we can stay. But if it doesn''t we can have a leg up on moving.

I''ve got 2 days and 4 hours invested in my character, I''m staying.

I voted no only because it''s not just Blackhand.. pretty much all of Eastern and Central are down. There''s very few problems that effect a single server. When somethings going on.. it''s going on to a good chunk of them. Even if we switch, we''ll still see the same problems.

I''d reconsider my vote if Blizzard comes to us and says.. ""Hey guys.. the problems were having is because certain servers are overloaded with people. We''d like to even things out by moving guilds that volunteer over to a new server of their choice. Just have your guild master notify us and we''ll move all characters in the guild over to X server."" Then and only then do I think a server move would be worth it.

I don''t think any game would admit much less offer this.

EQ2 is doing it right now.

""As many of you are aware, we have announced the first in a series of optional character transfers. These moves are being done on a voluntary basis to ease the population of our most crowded servers and spread players out onto new or less-crowded worlds.

We realize many of you might have expected us to announce such a plan in advance so that guilds or groups of players might take advantage of the offer together. While we may consider such a plan in the future, our goal with this move was not to spread out guilds or ease competition on a per-server basis. The goal is to reduce the overall number of players online during each server''s peak playtime.

We do not plan to list which servers will be given the option to move, nor will we post a schedule of when in-game announcements will be made. Players who are online when the offer is broadcast will have a limited amount of time to request a server transfer.....""

Tonight the issues seem to be gamewide, not just BH. I wish they would fix this or at least give us some info on what the problems are. I am starting to have AO flashbacks. I bet Sony is laughing their asses off.

If I remember right, several years ago EQ allowed people on high population to move to several new servers if they wanted to. It was as simple as logging into the game selecting the ""Move me"" option in the character selection screen. If SOE could do it, I would hope Blizzard and a few craftily built SQL statements could do the same

Consider me impressed.

I second this. I firmly support the movement to pick an official secondary server in the other region (Pacific/Mountain) for times when things are as crazy as they are tonight. I don''t care if it ever becomes the official primary server but I''d rather be playing with my buds right now instead of typing this but any effort anywhere else is just wasted unless it''s going to be with the people I want to play with.

Edit: That''s it, Blackhand isn''t on the list anymore. I''m going over to Shadowsong (currently Low population as well) with Slambie.

Edit 2: Nevermind, now I can''t even get past the login. Thank goodness for MNF.

Ya, I don''t know why everyone flips out over this stuff. This has happened with every MMORPG launch ever in the history of MMORPG launches. We''ve all read about them.. we knew about them going into the store.. we knew about them when purchasing the game.. we knew about them while installing the game. Why''s everyone so shocked? (Mostly talking about the idiots on the WoW forums, not here) Some were worse than others... but ALL of them have had server issues in the first months of release. Especially when it is a company''s first ever try at one.

The messed up launches you can''t forgive are the ones that are sequels to previous MMORPG''s or where the company has some kind of experience with them. Ya.. we paid for the game. But we''re not paying any subscription fees right now. And Blizzard has already even announced that the free 30-days hasn''t gone into effect yet.. and won''t go into effect until they do get the server issues straighted out. So we''re playing for free. And ya, we''re basically beta testing their servers for them at the moment... but atleast once everything is fixed.. there''s no player wipe!

Actually, aside from the offer to move characters, Blizzard has said this. Repeatedly.

Edit: When the login server is back up, I''m going to work on my Shadowsong character. Assuming I''m still awake.

It sucks... seriously, I''m pretty darned pissed right now. But there''s absolutely no hard evidence that things would be any better somewhere else. Especially tonight, when I can''t log onto ANY servers, in ANY time zone.

I am over at Shadowsong already (with by BlackHand alternative characters). I think it will be my go to alt server for the foreseeable future. Please feel free to joins Slambie and the rest of us there as a back-up to Blackhand. As of right now, I am staying with Blackhand as my primary.

I''ll be playing Stormwind when I can''t play blackhand, as well. I have a horde char (Troll Hunter) there. Char name is Crusher.

The login server is definitely down for me and so I can''t get to Shadowsong, either.

I''d post the names of my characters over there but I don''t remember what they are (time to add them to my sig I think) so post yours...

Just stick it out. Whats it been? A week? Just about all servers are having problems now and then. I have an alternate character I play on Burning Blade in the eastern time zone when BH is having trouble. I''m sure it''ll all work out and all the needless worrying posts over Blackhand''s status can go away and never come back

Ronsy is lvl 16, Vinsa is lvl 10, I can''t forsee wanting to regrind those lvls somewhere else.

These are startup wrinkles, and they will smooth out. Patience, grasshoppers.

Karla

I still consider my Blackhand Tauren Warrior to be my main character and wouldn''t really want to redo 11 levels all over again, so I can''t imagine anyone at a higher level eager to make a server change.

Having an alt character on another server has really helped to reduce my frustration, though. I''d be really pissed if all my chars were on Blackhand and I consistently had to wait in long queues to get in. When I get around to trying out a third character, I probably start it on a different server as well just to spread my options out a bit more.

But in my limited experience, I think hoochie is right. Patience is the answer here even though it might not be an answer that sounds very good at the moment.

Not that I am disagreeing, but while we have invested time in the characters etc... It is just that time and the servers have only been up a week - so we have on average maybe a week invested - I could see it being an issue if it were 6 months and we were all running around with LVL 50+ chars, but at this point should we decide to move I dont think it would be that painful... That being said I would prefer not to, but I will follow the Thundering Herd er Horde to a new server if necessary... I have 4 chars 12 or better on BH and I have experienced almost zero issue because of my off peak playing time..., but it would be nice to have an alternate server - Shadowsong appears to be good in case we decide that BH is BS and we should move.... That being said I am going to creat an alternate on Shadowsong - Slambie what race are you and Sanjuro on that server... Also have we started a guild yet for Shadowsong?

I have a level 8, a level 9, three level 10s, a level 12, and my main (who is 16 going on 17) and I would start over because that was only 5 days of play. Anyone can reach 20 in just around a week. BUT, what I don''t want to replace is the effort that I have put into professions and all the help people have given me with resources. I will go with the guild, so here I sit.

I vote no. The most frustrating night I had was last night, but in that case there were a bunch of servers down, so there''s no saying an alternative server would have been any better. It is frustrating, but I''ve been able to play when I want to (mostly), and I imagine the problems will get less frequent soon. Imagine all the other guilds on BH having this same conversation....

Interestingly I''ve experience 0 problems so far, even at times when you guys say it sucks ass. I wonder what that means...

Anyway. My lovely lovely Undead Warlock is now lvl 12 (or 13, can''t remember) and my Orc warrior is lvl 10 and I have no intention of changing servers at this point unless I start a new race+class.

I don''t intend to do that so I''m on BH, no matter what the GWJ people decide.

Well, given that I was the one that got in first and picked Blackhand (in my defense, there were only five servers in the Central zone at the time), I hate to admit that I have spent the majority of my playing time on Llane. I had gotten my primary character on Blackhand to 8 or 9th level and a few others up near there before I just couldn''t take the constant disconnects and queues.

I moved over to Llane and haven''t had a single problem. Llane has never been down, even when the GWJ crew were talking on the boards about not being able to play.

The way I looked at it, this is still opening week. Their ability to fix an overcrowded server is still questionable to me, short of offering a character move. I figured that by moving to Llane, I was assuring myself of quality playing time, and was giving up the 12-14 hours I had invested to that point. Plus, I was introducing my wife to her first MMO, and I figured that I''d rather her be able to play as opposed to experiencing lag and queues (""N, seriously honey, you want to put up with all this crap...when it actually works it is really fun!"") It was a no brainer.

I''ll drop in on Blackhand every now and then, and if anyone wants to make a character on Llane, I would be happy to group up, even if it means starting a new character. I also can deck out any new characters with crafted goods of any type.

I''m currently playing a Troll on Shadowsong. There are a handfull of GWJers with Horde characters on there plus at least 2 others with Alliance characters if they''re still playing those. And there''s no guild set up for us that I''m aware of. I''ve been adding people onto my Friends list just as a subsitute for a Guild list.

I''m pretty sure that Sanjuro is on a different Pacific server, Cenarion Circle.

I''ll also eventually be trying out an undead character as well but haven''t decided yet to put it on Shadowsong or one of the other low use Pacific servers.

BTW, thanks for sending me a bag. I was able to jump into Blackhand for a couple of minutes early last night to retrieve it and attempted to send a thank you reply then, but was dumped from the server at what appeared to be the beginning of last night''s round of server issues.

I''m over there too, don''t know about Sanjuro.

Granted hindsight is 20/20 and all that, but it sucks there wasn''t a planned fallback server. Now there is a smattering of people randomly scattered on various servers across the vast expanse of cyberspace.

D''oh!

"Sanjuro" wrote:

I''m gonna abandon my Cenarian Circle alt in favor of making a Horde character on Shadowsong; that seems to follow the tide nicely.

I already play this game too much. If/when Blackhand is down, I''ll take that as a sign that I need to be doing something else... or at least playing something else.

First off, I posted it this thread because there were people (me included) who were frustrated last night. I have no problems staying or leaving, I just want to hang with the cool kids. I too have lvl 19 and 9 chars and also wouldn''t exactly be ''thrilled'' with starting over but sooner is better if things stay the way they are.

Anyways, I voted for the 3 days in a moment of full disclosure. That said, picking an alternate server in the same time zone at startup wouldn''t have really helped matters most likely, all the early servers are fubarred population wise.

I''ll be looking for a Pacific server around the 10th of Dec, I get paid and thats when the wife is getting her copy so I''ll be alting local. Let me know the ''semi-official'' Pacific server so we can hook up.

Although the wait times are annoying, I don''t want to restart my Blackhand characters all over again unless the server continues to be a major problem in the next couple of weeks. But it would be great if we could decide on an official alt server for when Blackhand is down. It sounds like Shadowsong is the unofficial alt right now, so I''ll probably create a character there...
