WoW: Tips for grouping with real-life friends.

Sorry to create yet another WoW thread, but I want to keep this pretty specific - and its not a Ra Ra WoW Rules!. If anything this may be a weakness.

I've not so much been playing as part of the GWJ guild/group. I've got a few other friends playing and we're going to try and play as a tight-knit group - hopefully doing 90% of the game's content as a group.

That said - with starter towns for each races being different, your looking at the first 10 levels at least being played seperate (it seems). We're playing horde characters and we'd come to accept my Orc friend and I (Tauren) wouldn't meet up until about level 10 when it was looking like we'd both have quests to the Barrens.

Then the third in our group began their character, an undead Warlock, and we'd not realized the Undead began on another continent entirely. I thought all the horde began on the one continent and the alliance on another. So now I'm looking at the undead running around on the Barrens and they're all level 20-23. So it doesn't look like our 'group' will be on the same page until then. Combined with each of us having begun at slightly different times (lvl 9 warlock, lvl 15 druid, lvl 11 fighter) - is it going to practical to be a group at some point?

So here are my questions/issues:

I figure as the leveling slows - our experience levels will get pretty tight. Also I'm making an effort to not play so much and let the warlock catch up.

If our lvl 9 warlock was to hop a Zeplin (or whatever) and come to our continent now - are they going to be able to find quests?

What if I go to the continent of the warlock as a lvl 13 druid - will I find quests?

So far it seems like I'm following a thread of quests intended to lead you to zone after zone. So it doesn't seem like a good idea to abandon this progression and just hop to another location.

I'd expect that eventually this thread of quests for each race will meet up and we'll be able to group and for the most part be working the same quests. Is this correct? If so, when? Level 20+?

Other than the fact that you might die on your way to a place, there''s no reason you can''t go to your friend''s area or vice versa. While, yes, there are quests specific to each area, there''s nothing that says you must do them. It''s all personal preference.

For instance: At the lower levels, in the Tauren starting areas, there''re quite a few quests that seem natural to do, as a Tauren... but, if you have no problem going to the Undercity, you''ll still find missions in the same places your Undead friend finds his... unless they''re class specific. And the class specific ones you should be able to find at anyone who trains your class (As a 22 Dwarf Paladin in Beta, there was a Paladin specific quest I could get from Stormwind OR Ironforge.

I think 10 is the generally accepted level to go travel, but plus or minus a few isn''t going to hurt you any. It''s all about creating the most fun for yourself.

I can specifically answer you that yes, the Warlock will be able to come to your continent and get a quest or two in Orgrimmar at level 10. I myself have done that with my own undead warlock. The reverse should also be true, as I see taurens, trolls, and orcs wondering around and doing quests in the undead lvl 11-15 zone.

In anycase, the quest system should be open ended enough that you can pick up quests in any zone, just so long as your level is high enough.

I heard from some beta testers that lvl 20+ is when the races from each faction officially converge and do quests together. Doesn''t mean you can''t have it your way though.

I finished all the quests on the Night Elf starting Island, left me around levle 11-12. Then I went to IronForge and Stormwind and joined my mates. I had no troubling getting a bucket load of quests.

just last night my guild hooked up in the Orc starting grounds. We were all level 3-4 and the Taurens were able to get the newb quests just fine.

Yeah... I didn''t start getting ""Go to Darnassus"" quests (as a Dwarf) until 20+. And even those were Elite quests.

But you can convene at any time, really.

There''s a map/guide that''s been posted on how to get from continent to continent for hooking up. I think lvl 10 is the earliest you can pull it off and not bite the big one. Much.

Ok it's reassuring to hear that technically you can move to other areas and find quests as early on as level 10. I''ve really been enjoying the Tauren quests, and I guess I was bit apprehensive about just walking away from them. Likewise I didn't want to ask that of other's – especially those playing for the first time. The early quests seem to play an important role in depicting the culture of races, and their situation in the greater game world.

This is also good news.

BTW, if you are a Warlock and level 10, get your Voidwalker quest done before you go roaming for real. That will add another pet to your inventory.

Also be aware that if you you can only train in certain areas whose race has your class... ie dont go looking for that Druid trainer in the Undead lands.... You''ll have to jump on the Zeppelin back to Ogrimmar and NE''s have it bad as far as weapon training - no 2H sword or axe in their land - you''ll need to head to Stormwind for Sword and Ironforge for axe... much to my NE Warriors chagrin :).

Here is the link to the document, which someone here mentioned, that outlines how each race can hook up with the other races of their faction:

I would like to add that while we''ve been working through levels 1-10 on our own, we''ve been sending the occasional in-character letters back and forth to keep the other posted on details like what area we''re working out of, what professions we''ve chosen, and sending the occasional item back and forth. This has been a lot of fun to do. You can even create some sort of backstory as to why/how your in touch with one another - and why fate has it that you''ll be one day soon be adventuring together.

Soma, you can always create a channel and invite your friends into it for worldwide, practically as good as a guild channel to keep in touch. Just /join <channel name> and then /chathelp for the best way to rule the channel with an iron fist... wrapped in a wafer thin velvet glove!

Or maybe that''s just what I did...

Do those channels allow horde and alliance to chat at each other? I''m thinking no, but I am wondering.
