Arma 3 Catch All

Was able to get killed several times with El Producto and Stylez this afternoon. The in game voice works well. The AI are brutally good marksmen. Been awhile since I played ARMA so the control scheme took some getting used to. Was quite a bit of fun all in all.

I highly suggest people use the JSRS sound mod. It adds so much immersion to the game.

Hey gang.

I'm pretty interested in running through some of the showcases tonight, like the assault one.

I put up a Steam event at 9 Central. Hope to see you all there.

Something has come up, catch you next time duder.

I got the full release version downloading over remote now. I'll tweak the video settings up after dinner and I should be able to hop on tonight.

Thanks for the game, guys. The AI seems much more accurate in the Release version than it did in the dev branch version of the beta. That combined with one and two-hit kills makes survival a tricky affair.

The toughest part of Arma for me has always been trying to spot enemies at a distance. 200 meters feels like a mile in this game, especially with the strong recoil of the weapons. I definitely recommend the weapon resting mods (VTS Simple Resting and TMR), though I don't know if they work in MP.

For anyone new to A3, I definitely recommend learning the stance system so that you can peek around cover incrementally without exposing too much of yourself. It's also great for seeing over grass, which tends to obscure your vision any time you go completely prone.

I've been on a DayZ binge the last little while.

Anyone done Wasteland? What is it like?
I do like the survival and resource gathering aspect of DayZ. To me, in a modern setting with weapon stores, you would have to be on a long range, long term mission for it make any sense to have food drink and resupply be a part of it.

How does that work out?

I guess the mechanic is hunt players for money, use money to buy the best gear?

I don't really bother with those gametypes, just don't interest me.

You weren't kidding - what a difference. I like the changes, but it makes the game much more stressful. I was playing the Armed Assault mission with JSRS and I just wanted to lie in the grass and let everyone else fight. Arma PTSD.

Fun.

Stylez, sorry about the errant grenade!

Good times tonight.

Couple of shots from tonight's action.

Stylez with the stylish nosedown landing for quick evac.

Downloaded and installed. Played a couple of the kind of training bits.

I wish helicopters flew a bit more like BF3 and a bit less like cows that somehow get airborne, but alas, sims. I recall similar feelings in Arma 2, wishing I could control the helicopter well with my mouse and kb like I could in BF, but in a co-op game with friends instead of in multiplayer servers where my life expectancy is about 30 seconds after takeoff before getting blown up by a jet.

Ah well.

The infantry stuff is fun though. Like the sense of weight it all has.

I'm trying really hard to find something resembling a good balance of performance/notugly, but even my pair of 670's seems to have a rough time of it with this game fairly often, especially if I get up in the air.

Was a good time! That CSAR mission has a lot of potential. I'm gonna see if I can crack it open and make some tweaks. I think lowering the enemy accuracy a bit and adding a revive script in will even the odds enough that it's still challenging enough. No worries about the grenade Mannish I assumed it would happen sooner or later

Thin_J I found the choppers to be really unresponsive and muddy with the mouse but feels much much better with the HOTAS and rudder pedals. As for performance, SSAO Disabled and Picture in picture (PIP) gave me the freedom to bump up fxaa and various other settings while still being nice and quick. I don't even miss SSAO.

There's a lot of servers taht post this on their splash screen stating having them turned on will lead to crashes.

Question: I set up a profile during alpha with my first name, but that obviously confused people from here when I joined last night, so I tried to make another profile using MannishBoy. Apparently, key binds are tied to profiles. Any way to copy my binds from profile 1 to profile 2? What file houses key binds? There's one text file in the profile folder in My Documents, but the other file in there is encoded somehow so that Notepad++ won't read it in clear text.

EDIT: Apparently you have to edit a key in the profile, then it writes all the stuff to one of the config files. Going to copy off my old profile into my new one.

I play Wasteland a lot when i play. It's hit or miss on the fun factor. First if there's no hackers, and or admin online to take care of them when they show is a very good start. Then team play. Sometimes you have folks who absolutely refuse to help the side their assigned to and if you get one of the 3 teams working together then it becomes a very brutal exercise. Still there's moments which make it worth while. Sides working together and able to set up supply lines and nice communication and up against a similar team you'll end up with a lot of back/forth battles that are a blast!.

The newer versions out also puts a heavy reliance on food and water now too. If you run a few miles without drinking you'll start shaking and cant aim worth a damn.

Here's the live stream I did of the GWJ session last night. For those who don't want to watch the whole thing (can't blame you), here's a highlight clip of our most successful (by which I mean least fail-y) raid. I don't know squat about this game but always have a blast learning and figuring stuff out. And damn does it look nice! I definitely want to play more.

Hah, you had my "oops" grenade in there!

That was actually very enjoyable to watch!

Filthy enablers!

Thanks for that stream! I wish I bought it when it was in alpha because $60 is a bit rich right now for the pile that I currently have.

I saw on the BI forums today that the recent AI tweaks actually didn't make the release version cut (for fear of breaking the missions). I think that means that the accuracy will be turned down once they do make it back into the game.

You can modify the accuracy manually too, but I think that effects how "smart" the AI is as well. I've pulled apart that CSAR mission and there was 8 teams of 4 enemies (!!!). No wonder you guys were getting hosed. 4 or 5 vs 32 is not a fair fight at all!

I'm cutting it down to 5 groups of 4, and seeing if I can do anything about the missile launchers. There should definitely be 1 or 2 to keep the pilot on their toes, but having 3 launches at once is a bit much. What's troubling me is that I can't see any units that have launchers equipped! The fireteams are made up of squad leaders, riflemen, and riflemen with grenade launchers. I'll have it sorted by tonight regardless.

For anyone that complains about this game, they need to play co-op. So much fun.

I did feel bad for leaving SpyNavy behind

Good times, all. I'm going to toss up another game tonight... and tomorrow night... and the night after that... Come one come all.

Got a kid's softball game tonight, but I'll see if you guys are still on when I get done.

I wonder if there are any urban type missions that are worth playing with the crazy accurate AI at this point? That might actually help a bit as you could play angles against them, or it might not.

Stylez wrote:

Here's an array you can use that changes the different skills without making AI dumber (settings are examples):

{
_x setSkill ["aimingspeed", 0.1];
_x setSkill ["spotdistance", 0.1];
_x setSkill ["aimingaccuracy", 0.1];
_x setSkill ["aimingshake", 0.1];
_x setSkill ["spottime", 0.1];
_x setSkill ["spotdistance", 0.5];
_x setSkill ["commanding", 1];
_x setSkill ["general", 1];
} forEach allUnits;

I'll be on for real tonight and MrsStatic has promised not to make me take her to dinner again like last night:-). Sorry I bailed out so suddenly, gents.

Damn right! Moar streaming! I've got the house to myself tonight so I'm happy to host again since Wanderer runs his gaming PC off wireless like a damn SAVAGE!

No you didnt, poor sniper covering down for you guys. I did get to fall to my knees a la Platoon style and scream "Stylez"!!!!

Are we playing tonight? I'll be on after I put the little man down for the night.

Not sure I can get on tonight, if I want to stay married

Good luck without Dr. Producto and his magic bag of morphine.
