Arma 3 Catch All

How long will we have to wait for the mods to take advantage or they already changed up for it as well?

When you say "mods" are you thinking Wasteland etc.? If so, no idea. I imagine the mod devs are going to be working on porting their missions over to the new map ASAP.

Altis is a beauty, too. Huge with a really nice mix of terrains and towns. The devs have done an amazing job.

Edit: One of the devs released images comparing the size of Altis to other Bohemia islands as well as to other open world games (Skyrim, GTA4, RDR, Far Cry 3, etc.). Ridiculously huge.

Altis is fantastic. There is a great mission on the workshop called Altis Village Sweep IIRC. The dev's have outdone themselves, and I hope it silences the complainers who are saying that Arma 3 is no Arma 2. They seem to forget what state Arma 2 was at release.

Nice - I downloaded that mission but haven't tried it out yet. There's another good one called "[TDNL] Assault on Charkia - SP". You control a squad as part of a much larger assault on the town of Charkia. It can get pretty hairy.

BI has made some nice AI improvements in the dev branch, too, which is great to see. In CQB, enemies are much deadlier. I'm still running some AI mods, but the recent tweaks have made some of them obsolete. In general, AI are much better than at the start of the Alpha and some new AI modders have also stepped up to take over where the A2 modders left off. I think I'm going to be playing this game for a long, long time.

Helicopter tour of Altis.

It's long. Not much seems to happen so far (still watching), but it does give a good idea of scope if you're not downloading the dev channel stuff.

Just toured the island myself, wow. That is a big hunk of terrain with incredible detail and intricacy!

Anyone up for some co-op tonight?

Alright ya'll, I've been heads down on a few things but this is getting way too exciting for me.

Who wants to set up a fireteam?

I'm looking for 3-5 people to do nightly games starting tomorrow, get a lot of reps. Hopefully we can have 3-4 of us playing each night.

PM me here privately, please.

Edit: I can play during the day, but doubt anyone else can. Otherwise, I'm looking for a group to play with starting at 8 pm US Central time.

Damn. Just as I leave for a 10 day business trip!
I've been spending some time on the 173rd Airborne ArmA 3 Domination server.
It's all co-op, no PvP, but they are pretty well organized.
If you haven't played Domination, all players are on the same team. The server generates random objectives to capture cities on the map and then everyone works cooperatively to exterminate the AI enemy from the area, capture any camps and destroy radio towers so the enemy can't call for backup. You can customize your loadout to get just the right kind of gear for whatever task you want to fulfill.
So, it's not survival, but it's definitely a nice twist on things. And with the sheer size of Altis the number of cities to capture is huge, making for a great ongoing campaign.
There are occasionally trolls that team kill or just generally make a mess of things, but the admins seem to be pretty responsive and it's a good group of fairly hardcore sim folks without being to the level of the 15th MEU Realism unit [not that there's anything wrong with that!].
I'll be back home late next week, so maybe I'll catch up with you then -- and I can usually play during the day as well. I'm on Pacific time :-).

Yep that was the popular mode for ArmaII before DayZ came out.

I always found Domination to be kind of boring. You fly to an objective and everyone shoots the baddies within 30 sec. and then on to the next.

I prefer smaller, squad based co-op.

Anyone up for a co-op session tonight?

Say 10pm EST?

WADR: That hasn't been my experience with this particular server.
Capturing an objective has required a more collaborative effort with multiple aspects such as artillery, CAS and ground/air transport. They have dedicated pilot slots and only pilots can fly helis or aircraft.
Having dedicated pilots that are making routine runs between the base and AO adds a bit of realism to the whole experience and with a coordinated fire team you could definitely find some great action.
Granted, it's still AI opponents, which can be fairly dumb at times and not nearly as unpredictable as PvP, but I've found that I enjoy the fact that EVERYONE on the server is working towards a common goal and it hasn't been a quick turnaround to capture an objective.
Again, these have been my experiences with this particular server/group. YMMV.
I'll admit there have been a few times where the asshat factor on the server has gone through the roof.
But it seems to resolve itself pretty quickly.
Everyone has their own style for how they like to play, but this has worked for me when I'm looking for some more realistic action and don't have a group to team up with.
That being said, I'm not locked into this concept. Just offering it as a suggestion.
I'd be up for any co-op gameplay that folks are interested in.

There are some good small squad missions on Steam Workshop that can be played coop, too, as an alternative to something like Domination, but I'm not sure how those work in multiplayer -- I guess you'd either need your own server or someone would have to host the game.

Another MP option is to use the MCC sandbox where one person acts as a sort of dungeon master for the rest of the players, creating the mission on the fly for everyone else (maybe the DM can play, too, I'm not sure).

I will be in Vent tonight for anyone that wants to do some small squad co-op. I was just thinking of trying a few missions from Steam workshop.

We don't seem to have an Arma channel anymore, so it will be in the Mud Movers channel.

Please make sure you have Dev. Channel installed so we can use Altis missions.

Nevermind.

I'll be there.

Probably by 9pm est.

Got my Track IR primed and ready. I have a few missions from Steam workshop that we can try.

Not sure where everyone was.. but big thanks to MisterStatic for some fun co-op!

Indeed, it was fun. Wish more could join us for a regular thing!

Which mission(s) did you guys play? If anyone is around during the day, that's when I can usually spare an hour or two. I'm in the Mountain timezone.

----

For those playing SP and interested in mods, there are already some really good ones out (note CBA is required for almost all of these):

AI

ASR AI - AI overhaul.

TPW EBS - Makes it so AI (friendly, unfriendly, and civs) can be suppressed.

WW AICover - Makes it so AI will react to audible gunfire and vehicles within a certain range.

Ambient

TPW Civs - Adds ambient civilians, traffic, and animals around the player.

Gameplay Enhancements

Tao Modular Realism - Includes files that can change magnified optics back to 2D, update how launchers work, and allow for weapon resting/bipod deployment. I use it for the latter.

TPW Fall - Causes player and AI to fall when shot or when they drop from a certain height.

WW AIMenu - A brilliant add-on for AI squad control which groups similar default commands together and adds some cool functionality: e.g., the ability to give units multiple waypoints, squad heal (medic will heal everyone who's injured), squad weapon attachments, unsticking 'stuck' AI, clearing buildings, garrisoning buildings, etc.

UI

STHud - It provides situational awareness of your fire team members using a radar that is in the middle of the bottom of your screen.

Units

POMI PMC - Adds an independent PMC faction.

We played Operation Clever Girl. I am around the next 2 days during the day if you are interested. EST.

Ill be hanging out in vent on Mud Movers if anyone is interested in playing some coop (and by playing I mean "helping a relative noob")

Sorry I missed you! Tomorrow is a wash for me as was tonight. Anybody up for Friday? Can we at least get a fire team together?

Now that I'm in a US timezone, this is starting to be very tempting. I think I better do some training.

I'm available today and tomorrow from 8-4 EST. I think ebarstad and I are going to get together for some shooty shooty.

Be in vent.

Also, do not go into the official or steam forums. The amount of groaning and whining is unbearable. My god gamers are an entitled bunch these days.

I really need to actually get in games with you guys. Co-op probably, as I'm a total newb to the controls.

The Armed Assault Showcase is fantastic BTW.

Hey gang.

I'm pretty interested in running through some of the showcases tonight, like the assault one.

I put up a Steam event at 9 Central. Hope to see you all there.

Super fun co-op with Stylez, SpyNavy, and ebarstad!!!

The enemy AI has been beefed up!
