Steam Trading Cards Catch All

If the goal is to get you to trade, then it makes perfect sense to give you things you don't need.

Very true. Unless you get so frustrated with the boosters received that you give up on the system entirely.

Maybe I'm missing something (I admittedly skipped a few pages) but asynchronous trading would be better if I could see my friends card progress. It seems I can see their inventory and the cards they have and I can see badges they have but I can't see a badge progress page. It would make figuring out trades easier if I could just see their progress.

True, but that's where the counter offer comes in. At least, you could use it that way

True. I guess I just strive for efficiency?

what?? yeah I know...and agree

So I've been basically just selling my cards-- only crafting a level 3 summer badge and a level 1 for BS: Infinite. And I've received over $50 so far. For everyone who buys to craft badges-- thanks!

This is probably the best all-around addition to steam. Everyone wins.

$50! Is that sheer quantity of cards sold, crazy mark-up, or a lot of luck receiving foil cards...?

Apparently I've been doing it wrong.

Ya, I sold a boatload of cards and made $6.70.

It's sheer quantity-- that, and I was in the beta, before prices really dropped during the summer sale. I made half of that before cards left beta, but I've probably sold 70-80% of my cards after the beta. I've been lucky with a few foils, one of which sold for like $2.50, but it's really been all about quantity. I've got nearly 800 games in my library, and I gave up counting which had trading cards back when I hit like 30 games.

It's slower to make money now. I think the market's pretty much stabilized now at around $1 - $1.50 per badge-- more cards in a badge means lower prices for those cards, but back in the beta, I was selling TF2 cards for 30 or 40 cents each. Plus, my wife and a friend have no interest in cards, so they send me theirs.

Clearly, I'm doing it wrong too. I must've sold cards for 5€ tops.

Same here -- quantity, not quality -- but speed is/was of the essence. Prices were high in the beta when people didn't know what to expect of card values. I predicted that prices would drop to next to nothing, so I idled the games and sold everything as fast as I could. TF2 card prices have already been mentioned; ordinary HL2/P2/L4D cards were going for like $0.80 back when this was all new. Even the second wave of game cards still commanded around $0.50 each.

I've only received like four foils but I've sold $80 worth of cards in total. None of the foils was higher than $3.

The occasional new card or foil still makes money, especially if you notice that the game is new-to-cards within the past day or so. Just monitor your Badges page (in the $USERNAME menu in Steam) every once in a while for new games and cross reference the prices in the Market to see if it's even worth your time.

It's all a bit of fun in a market-experimentation kind of way, but don't expect much. Even $80 is a pittance compared to your usual paycheck, to put things in perspective. Maybe you'll sell enough for a free indie game or two, and that's better than nothing.

Bottom line:
1. List every card sitting in your inventory in the Market for the going lowest price, probably around ten or fifteen cents.
2. Water your plants or something.
3. Profit! Spend it on a new cheap game during the Holiday Sale.

Look at that, async trades enabled 2 trades between myself and Prozac. Good trading with you man, I'll take any other Skyrim cards you don't need off your hands.

I love asynchronous trading.

Here's my inventory: http://steamcommunity.com/id/furtivespy/inventory/.

Now picture me hawking like a scalper outside a baseball game "Need cards? Selling cards? buying cards?"

The new Steam Trade Offers is really good made some badges really easy trading cards with my friends, So add me on steam if u ever want to make some card trades :p

So, with this offer for trade. I do have a few summer badge for grabs.

I would love to trade them that way :

If you need 1 summer card, offer me any 1 card of a badge I'm currently crafting for.

If you need 3 cards, I am open to being offered 2 cards for badges I'm currently crafting.

Or any other fair trade.

If you want another card than a summer one, send me a message for it.

Which badges are you working on?

Things I would love to see get added to the Trading Card system....

[list][*]Ability to tag certain badges as "I'm seeking to complete this badge", along with the ability to see what badges friends are going for. Makes it much simpler to spot potential trade partners, as well as eliminate needless trade offers i.e. I'm not going to give you my Civ cards if I'm trying to craft the Civ badge, right?
[*]Ability to filter inventories (mine and others) for duplicate cards.

Huge +1 to this. What I wind up doing is just picking some random card to offer and say in the message "pick something you want", but it'd be so much easier if I could just know what they were willing to trade to begin with.

I have to apologize to whoever tried to have a trade with me a few weeks ago... I was in the middle of a move and didn't get to it and I'm sorry to leave you hanging.

Having said that, I am trying to craft the HL2 badge. I just got a booster drop and that leaves me with only two cards left.

Need:
- Respite
- Gordon & Alyx

Have to trade:
- G-Man
- Alyx Vance

And any other of my doubles... I don't want to fill up the page with my entire list.

Weird, I just went to my inventory and Badges pages to see if I could help, and I don't even see HL2 listed as a badge I can get. I definitely have the game in my Library, and have gotten cards for it in the past....

If you don't have a card at all, some games are removed. Don't know why, but I have seen in on my alt account. The games are listed tho in booster pack I can receive.

Ah, I guess that makes sense. I was a bit confused, since I did see games I hadn't ever earned cards for, but maybe it's just the ones with no cards and no drops that get removed.

I think to keep the page from getting cluttered, it shows only complete and parital badges, as well as games with cards left to earn. But for games that you've earned all the cards, they only show up on the main badge page if you've played them recently (like in the past week or two). If you launch HL2, it'll show up again.

It's not quite perfect, but there is a featured showcase you can put up on your profile where you can list items you're willing to trade, and write what you're looking for in return.

Anyone use one of the trading service for cards like the one at backpack.tf?

I'm tempted to look into those, because some cards I'm missing are not even in others inventories.

I have, the backpack.tf is quite efficient. Certainly good for its purpose.

Does the site's credits system is share with the tf2 items as well? So I could give a Tf2/Dota2 items to get some cards?

www.steamcardexchange.net has been pretty decent for me, or was early on. Inventory hasn't been great lately. But it's purely cards -- no Steam items, nor DOTA2/TF2 items.
