Server lag spiked and crashed a couple of times last night, maybe need a reboot or something

The Dallas location could have been getting DDOSed. It happens quite a bit.

The server reboots every night so maybe it will be better tonight.

Saw this Pyro at D*Con. Thought it fit here.

What is that pyro doing to that blow up toy?

A rare sighting of the elusive "cool pubbie". Gives me three ubercharges to take down Dustbowl 2, compliments me by saying he recognizes a veteran player, and then takes two ubers from me to push through Dustbowl 3. Moments like these give me hope for humanity. Maybe.

New TSA video!

The lesson to take away from this is: GET ON SERVER TONIGHT, BABIES

Oh we played a bit last night and there was a weird bug where you could walk though (and place sentries inside of) what are normally solid objects like rocks. We were playing dooms day and I managed to put a minisentry in the rock outside of the opponents base. Also you could walk through the rocket and some other objects.

I don't know if this is a bug or just something screwy with the server but probably worth looking into.

Yeah, not sure what was up with the rocks you could walk through. Even a map change didn't solve the problem.

Oh, and we were kicking people who put sentries inside of rocks, mostly to force their sentries to despawn. So yeah, don't be doing that.

It was fun though, camping inside a rock shooting people....ahum, ok, not everyone liked that....

NSFW.

Okay, I've griped about this in the server a fair amount, and I just have to say it here:

DEFEND THE GODFORSAKEN ROOF OF CP2 ON BADWATER.

In the past when I've been on defense, I don't even build a gun to defend the first point. I have all the infrastructure up to defend CP2, and when it looks like CP1 is lost I ask for help on the roof. Please, please help your engineer out and don't let the enemy carry their momentum up there! With 3 or 4 combat classes, you can control one of the most defensible spots on the map; add in a medic and you're pretty solid. It burns me up to have a good fortification wasted because I have no cover from the two attackers who come up.

I killed you and blowed your stuff up on the roof.

Hoooly sh*t. This should win an award. I don't know what kind of award, but definitely one of them. Haven't heard the song in a long time and that was brilliant.

If I'm playing demo, just save yourself the grief and destroy your buildings yourself

It's kinda hard to defend an ubered demo coming up the back and a heavy with a medic coming up the stairs with half the team dead.

Exactly. That's why I try to get people to prepare. Maybe instead of going out to die defending a CP1 that's looking bleak, half the team could be ready at the top of the roof -- I'd even take one or two pyros to repel the ubers with poofing. Lose the battle, win the war. That kind of thinking.

That's just too funny

Sorry my server isn't up to snuff, I've been moving for the last few weeks and haven't gotten a chance to update it

I honestly was not kidding tonight about the medic situation on Stan's. If you aren't a heavy or a "top player" here's a little top off and see ya later.

Wasn't on the server but I assume you don't mean just tonight. When I play medic I heal everyone (I make exceptions for defensive spies and crappy snipers/spies) but I do tend to give standard ubers to heavies. I'll give KK to demos, soldiers, or heavies. Redneck, I'll over-heal you and give you the occasional uber but the caber isn't really high on my uber list and 4 grenades just don't do enough damage or have enough accuracy to get much attention.

I will give a pyro the uber at times. Sometimes it works out well and can often work out better than a heavy (especially if the other team has a pyro at the ready). Dimmer gets a fair amount of ubers from me. I'll be honest, though. I put classes into tiers. Medic is the top tier. Heavy is Tier 2. Soldier and Demo are tier 3. Sniper, Engie, and Spy are Tier 4. Scout is Tier 5. Enemy spy is tier 6. Defensive Scout is Tier 7. Yeah, that's right. I'd rather heal an enemy spy than a defensive scout.

I will prioritize people but it's pretty much Goodjers and then pubbies. Ubers will go to the player I think is going to make the most difference for the team. Usually that goes by the list above but sometimes it's fun to screw around and uber someone for the fun of it.

A sentry nest doesn't need accuracy and only 4 grenades.

I stopped assuming I would get heals playing anything but heavy a long time ago. Too many times standing in front of a medic hammering the "Medic!" button while they heal the overhealed heavy that isn't shooting at anything.

Agree completely with everything EvilHomer said.

Additionally: Most of the time we're so busy topping people up and putting out on-fire players that we don't have time to focus on "pocketing" or overhealing someone. You guys injure yourself a lot and usually there's only one of us.

I give ubers/kritzes to the closest offensive class as soon as I can, as appropriate to the situation. I can't hang on it too long or someone will burn/stab/gib me. That means the decision has to be quick, and thus often the heavy. With a bit more time to plan, soldiers/demos/pyros are often the priority for both kritzes and ubers. If I have a choice between EvilHeavy or a decent pubbie soldier against a distant level 3 sentry -- like today on Egypt -- I'll uber the soldier. It's highly situational.

We, as a server, play waaaaaay more payload maps than any other map type. And we have shown time and time again that the standard way to win a payload map -- especially Badwater -- is a marching band of competent heavy/medics on the cart. The only basic defense against such an assault seems to be cabers and Gumbie, perhaps with a side of expert-level stabbing. There are other strategies, of course, but they require planning and coordination. Payload maps just encourage uber heavies on the cart, since cart combat is so short-range.

Also: We can't really uber caber-rush-demos -- you'll out-run the beam. Right? And a kritz-caber is redundant, isn't it?

It's tough; we run around healing injuries as fast as we can, all the while knowing that we desperately need to stay alive and build those game-changing ubers. And we do so with a huge target on our backs. I know that my constant dying at 80% charge has a massively deleterious effect on our chances, for example, just adding to my frustration.

Now Sinkwater, for one, will occasionally ask for an overheal just for the extra health before he starts an assault. It's a great idea, and it lets me know his plans. If you ever want an overheal, please just ask. You might feel self-conscious doing so, but trust me, every little bit of communication helps.

Edit: And if you ever have to stand, injured, in front of me and hit the medic button, I will heal you, period. The only exceptions might be if I'm either about to die, about to activate an uber, or temporarily overwhelmed with other healing targets. And if all else fails, please ask. It's not required, but it's a good way to draw attention if I'm distracted. For those of you who do so already, keep it up, and thanks.

As a Pyro more often than not, I don't expect to get ubered. In fact, I'm often surprised when I do. Just a little top off if you're not in the middle of fighting works for me, then off I go to harass people
