Banished by Shining Rock Software

This is a pretty cool looking city builder/survival game coming out sometime this year:

I don't normally go for sim games but, this one looks pretty cool.

I couldn't hear the audio here at work. Is it just building up your city? I kept expecting to see a wave of vikings or zombies or something charging into your town. The title "Banished" made me think that there would be conflict.

So far it is just city building. I too would love to see some sort of attack/defense mechanics; bring it closer to a Stronghold type of game.

Yea I keep waiting for some kind of SimCity meets zombie survival RTS type of game. I have Rebuild on my iPhone but it isn't rich enough. This sort of looks like the city building part of AoE2 to me.

The story behind the name is that you start off as a group of people who have been banished and must survival when starting from nearly scratch.

Looks a bit like an Anno Domani game. I'm interested, but curious what, if anything, differentiates it.

According to the website, it sounds like this game is at least primarily being made by just one person.

Here is the latest gameplay video uploaded yesterday:

I thought you were posting about how you were banished by this company. I'm a little sad it's just about a dumb ol' video game.

Actually looks kind of cool though, so I'll tag this thread with those wonderful lines

Haha, glad I"m not the only one.

I had not heard of this game before, but it does look interesting. Thanks for posting the trailer, Rykin.

This looks pretty awesome. May scratch certain itches that many games have tried, but failed to scratch.

Yay more footage!

Looking forward to this one.

This needs a better name, because "Banished" makes me think of some generic action RPG released 10 years ago for the PS2 or something, not city building...

I thought it was going to be like a more graphics-intensive Rebuild. But no zombies or suggestion of an apocalypse, so... "Build"?

The resource gathering made me think of Warcraft. Only, y'know, no war. So, "Craft."

Kinda looks like "Settlers: Appalachia."

I think the basis for the name is because the people you start with in your village are banished from their original town, so are forced to start foraging for themselves.. Vague recollection of reading that somewhere.

Correct.

The dev's site[/url]]In this city-building strategy game, you control a group of exiled travelers who decide to restart their lives in a new land. They have only the clothes on their backs and a cart filled with supplies from their homeland.

Unlike Bill the Bellicose (aka TigerBill) I'm more than happy to focus on the building sim and not have combat as combat usually suffers (ie. Anno games).

This looks seriously up my alley.

This.

Also, There is a interview with the developer over at GWJ's favorite PC Gaming Magazine website.

Totally. It's come on leaps and bounds if you've been following the dev videos. It's been a good while since there's been a decent resource gathering/build/village sim, without any attempt at combat. I'm usually a pacifist in games, if given the option, so cannot wait until this becomes available.

I would totally be down for sort of a city building/tower defense style game a la Rebuild. I liked it on the iPhone but found it a bit lacking in depth.

Perhaps it's because it's what I've played most recently of this genre but it really looks like it's Gnomoria with better graphics and no goblins. (Others might say Towns or Timber and Stone.)

Hope he can pull this one off; that is a gigantic mountain for a single programmer to climb.

Makes me want to start playing Children of the Nile again. If it weren't for the really bad case of Crusader Kings 2 that I have, then I'd probably do it. Cool looking game, though. Seems like a very relaxing play. Looking forward to its release.

I want to throw money at this so badly.

Oh man, I have been waiting for that "Place Blueprints of a building for free so you don't have to keep the entire layout of the place in your head until you can afford it" since the first Caesar game. This game looks pretty sweet.

Yeah, It is coming along nicely. I'm actually glad that this isn't a Kickstarter, or going down the route of alpha/beta/gamma access - Quite nice to go back to the old days of a game ready when the dev decides it is, though I guess it remains to be seen what will happen nearer the launch, whenever that is. It still says 'Late 2013', so with this, and the Stonehearth beta hopefully before the winter holidays, I should be all set for some cold-outside-cosy-inside building/resource-management over the long dark nights to come. Can't wait.

No release date or price yet, but the game is confirmed to be available on Steam.

Thanks. Well and truely wishlisted.

One step closer to playing this.

What? No one's going to post the new gameplay trailer? Looking awesome!

Just saw this thread... I'm really interested in it now...
