The Walking Dead (from Telltale Games) - Catch All

Okay, finished 400 Days, liked it but didn't love it. Looking over the last two pages I may be the only one...

Love to criss crossing of characters/locations/events. One I don't think I've seen mentioned,

Spoiler:

is the large crew at the diner with Shel and Becca supposed to be the antagonists that chase Bonnie Dee and Leyland? They have all the torches and mention a nearby cornfield...

Also, I took down Dee first instant, I mean she was trudging around with a torch in the field full of killers with torches, I felt remorse, but it happens in that world. I could see that moment being ruined by having a death condition before 'succeeding' on it though.

In terms of my conclusion

Spoiler:

I only ended up with Vince and Bonnie leaving with Tavia, leading me to think they will be bit parts, a bit rough to have a player miss out on so much content otherwise.

I can't say I was as affected by this as with ep 1-5, I think the small time spent with the characters didn't let me get too attached, and personally it led to some frustration with decision making for them. I'm probably expecting too much from what is probably just set up for the next season.
BUT something that I've realised is that what I really want to enrich my 'role play' experience with this style of 'interactive movie' game is to know who my characters are and what their motivations are before I have to make significant decisions.
In 400 days I found myself making my usual 'white knight' style decisions for every character as that is MY motivation in general, but that leads to things feeling a bit stale, everyone is on the same level. What I'd rather is to have the background on these characters to help to me to play what I imagine their motivations to be or even better to relate to their positions and react the way they would react.

This could be done by giving us more back story OR taking more time with the character making smaller decisions that help realise their character before they have to make a big character defining decision.
I could make up these character motivations when the decision is presented to me, but not when I have an egg timer counting down (which is actually a brilliant mechanic, it'd rather they not lose).

Also, I played eps 1 - 5 on PS3, and 400 days on iPad. Bit disappointed with the iPad experience, moving characters around is pretty arduous...

That's my two cents, bring on season two.

The latest Gamer's Garage podcast has an interview with Dave Fennoy. This is the first Gamer's Garage podcast I've listened to and it seems quite good.

The interview may well contain all the spoilers that are humanly possible at this point.

Since the video game deals thread has been locked up: The 400 Days DLC is $2.50 on Steam today.

Already played it on the 360. Still hovering over "Buy".

me too... I kind of want to play on the PC, but I already told my story once and kind of just want it on my 360.

EDIT: also it's a damn shame that thread got locked...

It lives.

Just loaded up 400 days and I immediately got irritated that my saves from the previous 5 episodes were not stored in the cloud. All the decisions I made are gone and now I have to go with pre made decisions. Almost makes me not wan't to play.

Ouch, that bites.... I have two complete saves I can email you if you want them. That being said, your decisions in season one have almost no impact on 400 days. The only one I can think of is from episode one:

Spoiler:

When you decide to save either Carley or Doug

Promise, it won't get in the way of your enjoyment of 400 Days which you should most definitely play, because it's quite good.

Thats good to know. Thanks.

Did you check the save directory to make sure it wasn't there? There's also one in Steam if thats what your using but I don't remember the path off the top of my head.

Well, I uninstalled (delete local content) the game a while back so I don't know if it took the save game data with it. I will check tonight.

I finished 400 days and really enjoyed the different intertwining story chunks. The one that got me the most was the first one I played which was Bonnie. It was simple but pretty powerful for me.

There's also some weirdness with how TWD handles saves. I remember having to do some wizardry both in the game itself and before starting 400D. As with many other games the saves are in 2 locations: 'My Games' or 'My documents' or something and in the TWD Steam folder itself. I think I remember having to copy the prefs.prop files from the steam folder to the games/documents TWD folder. Google walking dead save game fix and you might be able to find more info.

Question to everyone. I loved Season 1 but kinda discouraged from playing 400 days because heard mostly poor things.

Do you think (obviously can not be 100% yet) that someone who skips 400 days will enjoy Season 2 less?

Hmm. Good question. I guess it depends how much of 400 Days shows up in Season 2. I quite enjoyed 400 Days, and wouldn't be put off that much, after all, it's hardly a full price game. It is what it is, and while there were a few things that irked me, it wasn't enough to say I didn't enjoy it.

If you can pick it up on sale, I'd say go for it, that way, you know you're not missing out on anything, and you can judge for yourself rather than take other people's opinions/experiences

I think it's just a way to give you more background on the new characters that will be in season 2 without having to do all of it in season 2. So if you want to play the next season then yes, play 400 days. It's a great 2 hours.

Finished the game (Episode 5) after playing through the night. I'd been spoiled on the ending, but that didn't make it any less powerful.

Really didn't expect

Spoiler:

stealing from the caravan

to bite me in the ass. Anyone care to explain what happens if you don't?

Deadmonkey Look spoiler below

Spoiler:

If you do not steal from the van the other people simply out vote you and steal from it anyway. So ending does not really change other than you saying you didn't want too but group did it anyway.

There's no reasoning with the insane. He will find fault with you no matter what you did.

Yeah pretty much.

Spoiler:

I actually decided not to steal from the van, and so I felt a little betrayed by the game designers because they clearly set up that moment early on to bite you in the end. So it kind of deflated the impact knowing that I made the right decision but was punished for it anyway. So much for being the good guy.

Wait, what?!?!?! October 29th?!?!? ZOMGWTFBBQ!!!!!! I had no idea it was imminent!!!!!
So pumped right now!!!

O:
Has Season 2 been brought forward? For some reason I wasn't expecting it until 2014.

My guess is that this is some sort of announcement, rather than a release. I think the hat is a clue as to what the announcement is about.

Well thanks a bunch for bursting my bubble.
Seriously though, I can totally see myself buying a season pass, day one, for this season two. I was so impressed with season one and the 400 days DLC that I'm absolutely willing to give Telltale my utterly blind confidence on this one.

It's one of the few games that I'm 100% sure I'll be buying immediately, rather than waiting on a sale. Maybe the 29th is the date of the announcement of the release date ... oh the tension.

I felt a bit cheated on this at the end as well. Only slightly, but wish they had written a better way around this as a player that

Spoiler:

didn't steal from the wagon

.

Telltale has consistently said that Season Two will be out this year. Of course, that was before Jake and Sean left.
