#2 is a tough spot this year at the top of the draft, because #1 is so clear, but the next four guys (the three you named plus LeSean McCoy) can reasonably go in any order, with Ray Rice and Arian Foster right on their heels.

You don't get much more value at the #2 overall spot as you do at #5-7, but you do lose value with the later 2nd round pick.

I had the #2 pick in the D-2 draft and was a little bummed but I was determined to make the best of it. brouhaha was #1 and grabbed AP as expected. I ended up going with Doug Martin. He started last year off slow but still ended up the #2 back behind AP. Martin's receptions bring a little added value, too. Like you said, I could have easily taken Charles, Lynch, Richardson, and even Megatron and things would have worked out fine.

As it stands, I'm pleased with the results of the draft. Should be a competitive team.

1.2 - Doug Martin
2.11 - Steven Jackson
3.2 - Demaryius Thomas
4.11 - Roddy White
5.2 - Russell Wilson
6.11 - Mike Wallace

Great job getting White at the end of the 4th. There were quite a few nice WRs falling, and I was debating between Roddy, Cobb, and V-Jax with the 5th pick of round 4, and ended up going with V-Jax. He was something like the 6th or 7th best WR in fantasy last year (although it came in boom or bust weeks, it seemed), so I felt like I was getting value there as long as Freeman keeps it together.

Got Roddy with 5.2 last night in D1.

Since we're talking draft results, I'm not sure what I was thinking last night. Didn't get my WR1 until round 6. Fail, fail, fail.

1.10 (10th overall) Arian Foster RB HOU
2.3 (15th overall) Steven Jackson RB ATL
3.10 (34th overall) Darren Sproles RB NO
4.3 (39th overall) Cam Newton QB CAR
5.10 (58th overall) Tony Gonzalez TE ATL
6.3 (63rd overall) James Jones WR GB
7.10 (82nd overall) Stevie Johnson WR BUF
8.3 (87th overall) Sidney Rice WR SEA
9.10 (106th overall) Kendall Wright WR TEN
10.3 (111th overall) Chris Givens WR STL
11.10 (130th overall) Rueben Randle WR NYG
12.3 (135th overall) Jeremy Kerley WR NYJ
13.10 (154th overall) Ryan Broyles WR DET
14.3 (159th overall) Carson Palmer QB ARI
15.10 (178th overall) Mike Tolbert RB CAR
16.3 (183rd overall) Marcel Reece RB OAK
17.10 (202nd overall) Nate Burleson WR DET
18.3 (207th overall) Brent Celek TE PHI
19.10 (226th overall) Randy Bullock K HOU
20.3 (231st overall) San Diego Chargers TM SD

Am I the only fool that selected two kickers and two teams for bye weeks? It worked for me for the past two years so I saw nothing wrong with it. Then I saw everyone else's teams.

I guess I can look at it two ways.

I don't have to spend money in the waiver to get a replacement team or kicker for the mains BYE
or
I could have by chance gotten a random WR/RB/TE that would turn out to be a sleeper.

You can pick up people for free too... I don't think there is going to be any competition for a bye week kicker

Yeah for kickers a free bye pickup usually works. If you're really trying to get a "quality" bye week fill in, you can do it a week ahead of your bye too, and definitely get it for free.

For the new folks and as a reminder to those returning, remember that you can "bid" $0 for waiver wire pickups. Also, once the waiver wire is processed on Thursday AM, free agents are first-come, first served. (Disclaimer: this assumes I remember everything correctly from last year.)

That all sounds correct.

In my ESPN league players that get dropped on Thursday morning as part of a pickup go back on some kind of 48-hour waiver period that ends Saturday morning. Can't remember if that goes here or not?

I'd love to comment, but I'm saying nothin' to nobody until after tonight's draft is over.

This is correct. $0 is a valid bid for blind bid waivers, and post-waiver pickups are free.

I was strongly thinking of picking up 2 K and/or 2D since the benches are so deep in these leagues. However as we got deep in the draft and no one was picking K or D i just picked up Gostkowski and Seattle earlier than "normal" not because they are or aren't better than someone else, but because they have week 10 and week 12 byes basically stalling any need to pick up bye week replacements (unless Seattle D gets injured of course ), until late in the year. That value outweighed trying to guess which 4th string WR that I'll likely never start is better than the other.

It's also why I valued Russell Wilson as a QB more than Stafford and RGIII which were also available when I picked a QB.

Was a very interesting draft. For the most part I didn't see any "runs" on a particular position. Seemed to be people sticking to their game plans.

I will always wait to grab a kicker in the last few rounds. For defense I try to gauge whether or not it looks like a run is going to happen. I got lucky in Division 2 and grabbed Cincinnati at 12.11 after 9 defenses had already been picked. For Cincinnati's bye week I'll just pickup a defense that week based on matchup.

Ugh I totally dislike my team. That is probably because I didn't get some of the guys I get every year. Oh well, at least football is starting

Man, when i logged back in to look at what the last few rounds autodrafted me I could only think "Man, thats alot of quarterbacks"

I feel like I didn't get any real studs besides Graham, but I feel very balanced and fairly deep at every position for a 12 team, which is what I usually aim to draft. I don't love my team, but I think I gave myself a very good chance this year.

I ended up with 3 team defenses. Probably a waste of a roster spot, but I knew I wanted 2 of them with the deep bench so I could platoon during the season, so I grabbed NE in the 11th and St. Louis in the 14th. Then I saw Tampa hanging out there in like the 18th round when things got really sparse, so I grabbed them too. Once all the late round guys I wanted were gone I figured, why not. I think only one or two other people in DII have 2 defenses and I'm the only one with 3.

Another small rule proposal change: Is it possible to move waiver processing to Wednesday instead of Thursday since there are now games every week on Thursdays? Not a huge deal, but seems like a smart move to not have waivers process on the first day of games...

I think we made it Thursday (between 4a and 7a, but that part's controlled by FF) so that people could have as long as possible to get in their bids before it turned into "fastest click wins" but I'm willing to move it back if that's the consensus.

Since the season starts tomorrow, I figure I should get the week 1 thread started. I'll have to wait until later to finish it, though.

Dude, you got Ray Rice with the 8th pick, I'd be happy.

Graham in the 2nd is pretty crazy, as is three defenses. Damn crazy draft as far as I can tell. Y'all went nuts with defenses in the 10th and 11th. Weirdos.

Pretty happy with my starting lineup. Now I sit back and watch them all go down to injury in the first 2 weeks.

Definitely happy with Rice, especially in a .5 PPR.

I knew Graham wouldn't be there coming back in the 3rd, so I grabbed him. I was also targeting Dez or AJ there, and all of the RBs I wanted were gone (I thought Alf Morris might fall to me there). I figured Graham would give me a positional advantage all season if he produces like he should. Of course, I found myself a little gimped waiting til the 3rd to get my 2nd RB - had to pick between Miller and Sproles - but, again, Sproles as an RB2 in a .5 PPR was great for me.

There was a bit of a run on D/ST in the 11th, that's why I snapped up NE there. That's the earliest I think I've ever taken a D/ST.

Fun trying to decide which 3 to start in Dynasty:

Arian Foster
MJD
David Wilson
Alfred Morris
Lamar Miller

That's tough. Morris has to be in there, then probably Foster and either Wilson or MJD depending on whether you think MJD is really healthy.

AFAIC, there was no value to be had at TE this year- I was perfectly content to let Graham go by, since the tier of TEs below him is essentially interchangeable. Not too many stick out as in years past. Same with QB- if you didn't grab one of a very select few QBs early, you could go incredibly deep in a draft this year before selecting a QB and come out with a solid starter. I didn't play in the redraft leagues this year, but I probably would have gone in with a strategy of hoarding elite RB/WR and drafting QB and TE wherever the value seemed the highest in later rounds.

This is exactly what I did in GWJFFL D1. Didn't draft a QB till round 11 (Bradford) and got Freeman in round 16. TE Owen Daniels was taken in round 9. I went with Lynch, Ridley, Fitzgerald, V. Jackson, M Wallace, D. Bowe, T. Austin and Mendenhall with my first 8 picks.

Yeah most of us in D1 were patient. Auto-draft for missing people snatched up the QBs (5 on one team even ).

In a snake draft I took Graham in the 3rd after getting a couple RBs since TE seems to be so thin this year. I figured WR is deep, especially in a non-PPR league (aka the Stone Age) so what the hell?

In the Keeper league people hoarded their WRs which was a pain, but that's how it goes sometimes and it made the draft interesting.

It was a huge pain. WR prices were so inflated...

I saw it the opposite. Besides Graham and a healthy Gronk, there's a huge falloff in TE quality besides lottery picks that may pan out. I am giving myself a huge positional advantage by drafting Graham, who is capable of putting up elite WR1 type numbers. I was also targeting Dez Bryant and Alf Morris with the 5th pick in the 2nd round, but both were gone, along with Brees and Rodgers, so Graham was the best value available.
