COSMOS U/I for WoW - do you use it?

It''s 1 or 2 versions out of date (RichyRambo said he got a new version last night) but I''ve posted the version of Cosmos I''m using on my site.

Right Click/Save As.

I''ll leave it up until I get on later today (Thanksgiving here in USA).

Oh and to use it, just unzip the files into your WOW directory and then use the cosmos exe to start WOW instead of the regular installer. Since their site is down, you may not get any updates (I haven''t been able to).

Thanks for the link - I am downloading at work and mailing to myself :). I will install from there - anyone going to be on around 2330 EST?

Thanks EB!

Thanks a bunch!

I have used cosmos throughout beta and I still use it now. I has so many features that I have a hard time doing without now. The main feature for me is the SecondBar. It''s basically a second bar right above your normal icon/tool bar, gives you access to twice as many spells/abilities on one screen. You can also assign hotkeys to them to (I use <shift>1-0 for them).

As a high level priest, there are just too many spells I need ready access to to fit on a single bar. I need more slots. I find this is true for most high level characters.

I also like the clock, Quest Minion, and many other features that I take for granted.

I don''t get how Quest Minion works.
I press L, click on a quest, and it says ""NO quests selected"".

Also, what exactly is the purpose of Self Cast ?
I thought it would be a smart little thingie which would make me autocast spells when I target something or am in a party, but it doesn''t seem to work that way (or in any way).

They updated Cosmos UI this morning and specifically enabled Self Cast because its apparently ""working"" but it isn''t doing anything I would think something named ""Self cast"" would do.

in Quest Minion, you have to check the boxes of quests that you want displayed. You can also configure it to auto add quests as you find an item for that quest. and remove them from the display when you complete that part of the quest.

Self Cast lets you hold ALT and press 1-0 to cast that spell/ability on yourself without selecting yourself. You can do this by setting the self-cast keymappings, but this will work with second bar too.

The configuration for self cast is kind of confusing right now, you have to enable the self cast, and enable ALT for self cast. You might have to reload the UI or restart for it to take affect in this alpha version.

You have to turn on Quest Minion in the Cosmos menu and then you have to go to L (Quest Log) and make sure there''s a check mark at the top for Quest Minion and that it''s checked.

All of your quests should have a box to the left of them at this point and if you click on these boxes check marks should show up in them. As you check them you should see the Quest Minion populate.

YOu can uncheck them once you get all the items and such. I could have sworn during the first ST that the quests automatically showed up in the minion.

I''ve primarily played fighters so haven''t really toyed with the self cast.

I had to kill about 30 Marlins before the testicles would ''drop'', anything else I can do to make them drop faster?

How about showing a picture of Sway''s female troll. Or a night elf. Yeah, a night elf.. that''d be better...

Make yourself a female night elf and look at the naked toon on the login screen and suddenly you have DM testicle drop :)...

I downloaded and installed cosmos and it adds a lot of little touches that flat out make the game easier to play. Thanks everyone for bringing this little gem to our attention.

Played all night with it tonight. Quite worthwhile.

I like my game like I like my woman. Lots of features, and easily messed around with.

Like your woman? Didn''t you say something about giving men oral sex over on a HL2 thread?

Everyone in the guild should have it loaded. Makes questing so much easier when u can check on your party''s status as to who has how many Dramatic Marlin testicles (which are a rare drop BTW).

Do we have any proof that they ever dropped?

With self-cast here is what I do. I just enable it and uncheck all the buttons that say use ALT or SHIFT or whatever. So now when you cast a healing spell when you have a mob targeted it will heal you automatically. You don''t have to hold down any keys.

That''s the way I do it too. Have to be careful in a group, because if you forget to click the person before you click the spell, you''ll cast it on yourself. But, there''s also an option to disable self-cast when you''re grouped. I prefer the ""be less of a dumbass"" option, which is leaving it on at all times, but paying attention.

I''m glad this feature is in Cosmos cause that is really the only useful thing about EQ2. It does that automatically without any UI addons. And also EQ2 has a thing where if you target you main tank character your spells and melee attacks will attack whatever target the tank is currently fighting. This prevents a lot of confusion and you don''t have to use any assist macros to make it work. I''m hoping Cosmos adds this function in later.

I downloaded and used this AM - I dont know how I played without it - the rogue helper is sheer ""buttah"" :). Really enjoyed it despite that f''in Blackhand was having issues most of the morning.

Unfortunately, you have to wait until the Marlins mature... if you kill them too young, their testicles haven''t ""dropped"" yet and you end up killing a eunuch Marlin.

And nobody wants that.

I think one of the biggest sellers (it''s free btw) is the additional toolbars. You have the ""pop"" bar that shows up when you hover over it, you have the 2nd bar on the bottom left, and then there are mini bars on the left and right side of the screen. I don''t use them all, but that''s the main reason I picked it up back in beta. The party quest thing that tells you how your party is progressing on the quest is also very handy. Saves you from having to say ""how many more you need"". I love it and I''m trying to convert my entire guild to use it. It''s a bit buggy from time to time, especially after a patch, but I''ve been running it for the past couple of days without any trouble.

I''m feeling a bit crowded with it on, now

and boy is that annoying to me

good stuff, but still feeling a bit busy and crowded.

as long as everyone has QuestSharing turned on, right? I like it for solo questing too, now, since I have a hard time remembering all the different things I''m hunting.

I like it too, I just need to pare it down a bit, get rid of a few things, and regain some screen space.

Then again, I''ve never had much of a problem switching toolbars, even playing hybrid characters and healers, in older MMOGs.

The tackle box is kinda cool, but definitely geared toward the grinder/powergamer. I enjoy my fishing downtime, so I won''t use most of that.

In all, a good mod, I just need to spend some time tweaking the settings to suit me.

Well there site was up yesterday for a bit, I haven''t checked today. If you can''t get to the site you can go back to my link and download the newest version (Richyrambo sent it to me too for all of you).

The toolbars can get crowded. Periodically the ''second'' toolbar (above 1-+) will turn on but it hasn''t happened since I went to the alpha. At first I didn''t really like the popup bar and I''m still not 100% so I turned it off through most of the STs and OB. A few people here really like it though so I''ve been trying it out. The left and right bars to me are life savers, I put all my food, healthstones and potions in there and then put all my skills like leather, cooking, first aid and fishing in the right one.

I think, in all honesty, that the Alpha really isn''t working too well with retail.

I have my left and right bars to autohide, and I will constantly lose them (i.e. when I mouseover, they don''t pop-up) until I go into Cosmos config, and click ""Okay.""

I''m also having problems with the Auto self-cast. And Quest Minion will frequently just disappear. Anyone having similar problems?

Still with the errors, it''s 10 times better than the normal GUI.

EDIT: I just had to add this quote from their main page:

""It seems that Cosmos is indeed working with both US and European version of WoW.""

<laugh> It seems?

Found an update to the self-cast problem... it''s in this thread.

And, apparently, people say that if you reinstall the game (from the CD or DVD instead of from the downloaded file) that a lot of these problems stop. I don''t see how that would be the case. Anyone have any experience with that? Are people who installed from the hard copy getting any more/less problems?

There''s a rogue helper?

This probably isn''t much help, Warlock, but I''ve installed it over a clean install from DVD and haven''t really had any problems. Of course, I''ve never used it before retail so I have no basis for comparison and probably am not even aware of certain advanced features that you might be using. All of this is to say that, yes, I''ve installed it from media and seem to be having minimal problems.

Hmm. Maybe I''ll reinstall today, see if it helps. Thanks, Grump.

Careful. You should know that it took me 3 hours from the point I put the CD in the drive until I was able to create my first character. This includes about 1.5h for the install, .5h for the download and install of the patch, and about and hour waiting in the queue on opening night. YMMV.

I don''t use any of the additional bars other than the 2nd bar that shows over the left side of the normal bar. I had several issues on opening night, but I''ve been using cosmos for about the last 8 hours and I haven''t had a single problem.

I only have 1 self-castable spell and I only cast it about once per hour or so. I can''t really say much about this feature. I haven''t noticed any issues with casting that buff though. I always use the quest minion and I''ve had no issues with it in the 2 or so weeks that I''ve used it.

good stuff, but still feeling a bit busy and crowded

I agree. I''ve turned off all of the toolbars except for the one in the bottom left corner. I''ll probably start using the pop bar again though because I''m runnin low on buttons.

Regarding clean installs, I''m running a patched beta client. By patched I mean patched by Blizzard.
