Roster changes

As the NFL continues to evolve, so does the GWJFFL. One of the two starting RB roster slots has been converted to a Flex (RB/WR/TE) slot. This change will be applied to all leagues, including Keeper and Dynasty.

Scoring changes

As balance to the additional flex slot, we will reduce the scoring per catch from 1 PPR to .5 PPR.

Keep in mind that most guides are based on rosters that are smaller than ours and with a different composition. 1 RB and 2 Flex? That's cutting-edge stuff right there.

Edit: Also, since some suggested that they'd like to have more advanced notice regarding changes such as these, I'm considering reducing the number of WRs from 3 to 2 for next season. Roster size will stay at 20, it'll just mean an additional bench slot. (Of course, then again, I could decide not to do it. Or maybe I'll do something else instead. Or maybe it will be that and more. Feedback is always welcome... though I'd prefer you save "next season" feedback until the post-season thread.)

Rawr rawr grumble grumble *change* grumble.

Not a fan of reducing the WR's from 3 to 2 in concert with changing from 1 RB to an extra FLEX while still having 18 keepers in the Dynasty league. I think once the inaugural dynasty draft is completed, any significant roster/scoring changes should be discussed in depth and put to an owner vote.

Big thanks to Rabbit for filling in for me and drafting the team that I couldn't because I was busy pulling some dumb kid's hand out of a gumball machine last night.

I thought he did a remarkable job for his first ever auction draft and having a very limited draft pool.

Just consider it food for thought for now. There will be plenty of time for discussion between January and August.

I just wanted to let you know that the league rules page on Fleaflicker doesn't reflect this roster order or scoring change in DII. But I'll draft accordingly tonight assuming this change is meant for our league.

Its ok. Drew Brees is playing in front of him so, there's little to cry over. Rabbit did a great job with the options he had.

Thank you for 1) checking and 2) letting me know. You get an extra waiver dollar! I didn't modify D-II when I did the rest because I wasn't sure that we'd get enough people to activate. I then forgot that I'd (not) done this... but it's should be fixed now. Thanks again.

I know there was talk of making the IR slot count for the pup list as well, at least in the dynasty league, any chance of that happening in keeper or other leagues?

Keeper and Dynasty are the only leagues with IR, and it will stay that way. As for whether to allow PUP to count for IR in Keeper, I've taken the discussion over to Fleaflicker since it's specific to that format.

I won't be on for the d2 draft tonight though I will be ranking my folks for autodraft. Just wanted to say that to prevent anyone from thinking its disinterest. I will actually be playing the d2 team with my 10 year old. I am going to let him run things with my supervision and veto power.

ONE OF US! ONE OF US! ONE OF US!

Get that indoctrination in early!

Starting 5 wide receivers seems... bizarre. If you want two flex why not just drop a WR down?

It also makes it much less risky to take a DMC or Ryan Mathews since you could just slot in a WR if they go down to injury.

Sorry couldn't get in to the D2 draft. Java kept hanging on the old PC. Players were ranked so hope it didn't screw you guys too much.

Hey. I figured I wasn't gonna lose much for a dollar. And it kept my hand for another round.

Just logged in for some pre-draft sorting and now I'm all kinds of stressing out about the 2nd pick tonight...

Poking around internet rankings I see a lot of Doug Martin, Jamal Charles, or CJ Spiller ranked in the top 3. But no common agreement, and I'm not sure I love any of those guys.

Nah, you did fine. Don't let them razz you about any of it. No one ever knows what's going to play out over the course of a season concerning a particular player.

#2 is a tough spot this year at the top of the draft, because #1 is so clear, but the next four guys (the three you named plus LeSean McCoy) can reasonably go in any order, with Ray Rice and Arian Foster right on their heels.

You don't get much more value at the #2 overall spot as you do at #5-7, but you do lose value with the later 2nd round pick.

I would go for someone who isn't injury prone. Or consider it a boom/bust pick with Spiller or Charles as they're awesome, but brittle. I'd go with Ray Rice or Doug Martin, but that's my personal preferences shining through.

Just out of curiosity, is there a strategic or historical reason for the DII league to have a 10-player bench? I've never seen this outside of dynasty leagues (even my keeper league has a standard bench). I can't imagine anyone using a whole lot of their FAAB during the season.

I thought it was standard to have a bench the same size as your starters? Definitely that way in other leagues I've been in.

And these leagues don't have 1-2 IR slots like others I have been in either. So you have to use a bench spot to keep an injured player around if you want to risk that.

The rosters here are generally larger than other FF leagues I've been in. I like it.

Strategic: Deeper bench means you actually have to put some thought into it because you're very unlikely to have mid-tier players just sitting out on the waiver wire. If you pay attention week-to-week, you might can grab an up-and-comer before he truly breaks out but if you snooze, you lose.

Historical: I don't think it's been this way since the very beginning but since some point in the early years, our rules, including roster size among other things, have been based on those of the World Championship of Fantasy Football. They've evolved slightly as time has passed but are by and large still quite similar to the original WCOFF rules.

Oh crap! Draft's tonight!

(cue mad scramble)

sigh

I had the #2 pick in the D-2 draft and was a little bummed but I was determined to make the best of it. brouhaha was #1 and grabbed AP as expected. I ended up going with Doug Martin. He started last year off slow but still ended up the #2 back behind AP. Martin's receptions bring a little added value, too. Like you said, I could have easily taken Charles, Lynch, Richardson, and even Megatron and things would have worked out fine.

As it stands, I'm pleased with the results of the draft. Should be a competitive team.

1.2 - Doug Martin
2.11 - Steven Jackson
3.2 - Demaryius Thomas
4.11 - Roddy White
5.2 - Russell Wilson
6.11 - Mike Wallace

Yeah ended up going with Martin... seemed like a good night, but won't really find out for a few weeks.

4 down, 1 to go. Remember that, according to the tooltip when you mouseover the "Claim" button, there should be a waiver wire processed on Wednesday (or maybe it'll be early Thursday) in case anyone has buyer's remorse or, more likely, has to fix some autodraft maladies.

Oh and after much flapping around, I realized the draft is tomorrow night. I am a nitwit sometimes (most of the time).

At least I have my top 200 in order now.

Thanks. I wasn't questioning it or criticizing it. Just been playing FF for a few years and never seen a bench that deep before in a redraft league. I have only played on Yahoo, though, and I think the standard depth is 6, and most commissioners probably don't mess with it.

Damn Chabuda (Boom Booms) got 5 Qb's

Autodraft FTW.
