Just announced! Keiji Inafune is giving Capcom the blue middle finger and creating a new version of Megaman to dodge the loss of his character. The new cyborg boy sidescrolling game is called Mighty No. 9. Here's the Kickstarter page, they're asking for $900,000. They've gathered $26,000 in the time it's taken me to decide to make this thread.

I'll post the KS video once it's on youtube.

Here's a piece of conceptual art depicting what they've got in mind for gameplay:

They're targeting a 2015 release, seemingly at a $20 price point. As has become pretty standard for KS games now, they're saying it'll be a PC release with stretch goals to reach other platforms. Thanks to ClockworkHouse for correcting me on this.

For the record, I was hoping this'd be more akin to Megaman Legends 3.

It'll apparently get a console release if they hit their Kickstarter stretch goals.

Sweeeeeeet

EDIT: Good to see they're being fairly honest with their initial goal amount.

Ohmanohmanohmanohman. I'm so in. Don't even care about the output at this point. I want to be a part of this, win or lose.

'Course, I'd like for it to be a massive win. Where's ccesarano? This is definitely up your alley, man. Modern Rockman! It'll be like the X series was back then.

Wow. This is awesome. I'll be there day one.

It's too bad he doesn't own Mega Man. The possibilities... :/

Wow. That Kickstarter's moving really fast.

If you want this game, you will want to Kickstart it. Kicking in even $1 will allow you to participate in its creation, from talking in the forums, to voting on polls and surveys, and all kinds of things. That's the point at which your voice can actually make a difference in the final product. I kicked in enough to get into the beta. I want this game to be GOOD.

Kicking in $20 is, I think, for people who will want to buy it day 1, sight unseen, whatever the reviews might say. I mean, you're gonna pay that much anyway, so why not get a voice in making the game, right?

Can't wait for the forums to open! That'll be December this year.

If I understand the project page, they're partnering with Inti Creates who have been the custodians for the series since the Zero sub-series launched. This is probably one of the safest games to back I've seen.

Heh, I completely missed the thread, but saw the news on Twitter. Didn't even think to make a thread of it for some reason. However, I do feel all the excitement. It looks like Keiji Inafune isn't holding back in making sure we know this is from the creator of Mega Man, and I seriously hope it doesn't closely resemble Mega Man enough to get Capcom's lawyers on the phone. Hell, I hope they'll be completely cool about it since they don't find it worth the risk to make a new Mega Man at all.

What I'm really curious about, however, is where it will differ. X added a lot of cool mechanics, but it was still essentially Mega Man in pattern. I'm guessing there will still be 8 Robot Bosses (Mighty numbers 1-8 is my guess), but based on some of the concept art and video it seems like weapon transformation will work a bit differently.

Either way, the only thing keeping me from dropping cash is, well, unemployment. I don't know where my finances will be 29 days from now, and that's roughly when the rent is due. I'd also love to drop enough for the physical box, too. So if I contribute, it may be last minute.

And yes, I find it very amusing that they'll have the players vote on some of the game's production in the same manner they were (supposed to be) involved in Mega Man Legends 3.

When I looked at this last night I was worried as they were only at $30,000 and I wondered how long it had been up. Turns out the word hadn't spread yet cause holy crap they're gong to blow through the $900,000 mark in no time.

If nothing else, ccesarano, I think you'll at least want to kick in $1, if that's what it takes to participate in game discussion while it's in the design stages. Being able to talk to other enthusiasts about the game-in-progress would be worth that much to you, IMO.

From product description, it looks like Inafune is going to want to decouple some of the weapon acquisitions from the robot bosses. So you still get boss equipment, but you'll also get transformation stuff from other sources, if I understand that right.

The thing that could distinguish this from the X series, at least, would probably be the traversal and vulnerability transforms. None of the Rockmen (including Zero in his own series) AFAIK have the ability to transform into tanks. Seems like 9 will be able to, at least. This potentially makes 9 a little more like Kirby.

EDIT: sorry, man. Forum access is at $5. Bummer. Holy crap. Someone's backed more than $10000 into the project?!? That's insane Megaman love.

They'll reach $900k, no doubt. I'm not so sure about $2.5m for console versions, though.

Also kind of funny: PS3 and 360 games scheduled for 2015 release. I figure if they make the goal they'll get on PS4/Xbone as well, but it's weird to see.

Gah! I just read the tiers for backers and one of them is a signed artbook and physical goodies... I may have to do this.

After watching the Kickstarter video, Inafune looked so downhearted. Especially when talking about the cancellation of MML3. The video seems more like a flippin eulogy for Mega Man.

"Mega Man is gone. But from the ashes we bring to you Mighty No. 9!"

So depressing. I wish I had $10,000 so I could meet him in person and give him a hug.

I don't know how big Inti Creates is, but since they developed Mega Man 9 (and I think 10?) they might only have dev kits for the current generation of systems.

I was excited just on news of what Inafune was doing but that's was a slick ass pitch video! I'm in for $20.

This! Hopefully not on a handheld platform!

Still, too many fond memories of Mega Man gaming sessions. I'm in for at least $20.

I could also hear the profound disappointment in Inafune's voice at the cancellation of MML3. He really wanted that to happen, it seems like. It'd be nice if he could fund something along those lines without the strings of Capcom.

MightyNo9[/url]]Ladies and gentlemen: We. Are. Funded! Mighty No. 9 is officially a go!

THANK YOU and CONGRATS everyone -- YOU DID IT!

YEAH! *does happy dance*

I'm on the sidelines for this one, hoping they get closer to $2m for the documentary

We're nearing the 8-boss stretch goal. Go, go, Mighty Numbers!

This.

And now we have 8 bosses. Awesooooooome! *air guitar*

$1,500,000: New Game Plus and Turbo Mode

Please happen. Please! Please! Please!

On the handheld side, the developers have expressed some interest in a 3DS version of the game. The developers Renegade Kid, probably best known for the retro platformer Mutant Mudds, have offered to help with a 3DS release.

I'd totally be down for this on a handheld. Moreso even than a Wii U release.

It'd be better on Vita.

I'd totally be down for that as well, but right now, I'm much more interested in that "Making Of Documentary" goal. I seriously want more of those.

$1.5 MILLION! NEW GAME PLUS & TURBO MODE ARE GO! AND BIIIIG STRETCH GOAL NEWS!

YAY! So glad I backed this. (my first Kickstarter too!)

Of course, it's no surprise our backers would request Mighty No. 9 for console systems -- they are the traditional home for this genre, after all -- but what we weren't prepared for was the intense, consistent, all-consuming passion you did it with! We realized the other stretch goals we had planned would be more welcome after this overriding priority, where they wouldn’t pale so much in comparison.

And that's why we’re happy to announce that, because of your feedback, we are officially pushing back the unannounced "?" goals in order to move the making-of documentary $250K closer, and yes -- the PS3/360/Wii U versions of the game $300K closer as well! As for the tiers that follow, we're currently revisiting our longer-term stretch goal plan based on this big change as well as other ideas we had (and of course, your feedback).

I was really curious to know what those "?" goals were. I hope we'll get to find out as long as ppl keep throwing money at them.

Oooh lower threshold for documentary! That sounds very doable. New Game Plus and Turbo Mode are gogogo! I'm loving it. I didn't expect this day would come. It's like I'm living in the future or something - personally contributing as a patron for Inafune-sama! I'm giddy with excitement. OMGOMGOMG!

Sorry. I giggled a bit. I do believe I'm getting rather silly.

New dream: R&C type 3D action game in future featuring No.9.

Mighty No. 9 Legends? SOLD.

Lowering the threshold for the really juicy stretch goals is classy. These guys get it.

Ah, so this is the reason nobody responded to my comment in the kickstarter thread?
