Video Game Deals Catch-All

Is it worth it for that price?

No, not in a million years. Go play natural selection for free this weekend. Still a better game.

Less a matter of worth it for that price than worth your time. It's simply not a good game.

Graphics not much improved from games 10 years old, alien AI and mechanics are a joke, and you spend the majority of your time shooting at other humans.

I pre-ordered this and tried so hard to be open-minded but I just couldn't be positive. Best things I can say about the game:

- they got the sound of the pulse rifle pretty much down
- Lance Henrikson's voice is quite recognizable

Tons of better shooter games with slightly similar feel at that price or lower (Bulletstorm, original AvP, AvP2, Natural Selection - but that's multiplayer only, even Just Cause 2). If you need your space horror, even Doom3 is likely better than this.

Oh - a deal. Um.

GamersGate is having a TellTaleGames sale.

I love your icon. That's one of my favorite movies of all time.

Please say you also read the book! One of my favorites as a kid.

I actually didnt... though I've been wanting to. Is it something an adult could pick up if all I've seen is the movie?

I think so (I had written "Absolutely," but I'm being a bit more guarded in my remembrance).

I seem to remember the book having a lot more nuance with a greater emotional complexity. But, this is trying to recall it from reading it >20 years ago. It was one of my favorite books from my childhood through teen years.

Actually, I reread A Wrinkle in Time recently, wondering if my son was old enough for it. Man, that's a short, relatively straightforward book, but there is a lot in there that has an emotional impact for an adult. Things I never caught as a kid. Its structure seems so much simpler as an adult than I remembered it as a kid. Now, The Book of Three wasn't as simple as I had remembered it. I haven't read the second novel in either series yet, but I'll probably dip back into them.

Not to derail toooo much further, but the rest of the books in the series are pretty awesome too. Well worth a read as an adult.

I liked the first one but the 2nd one never clicked for me. Still a must read.

SHINEY!

I read the books too. They were awesome. Even better than the movie.

Gamefly has Tomb Raider for $12.49 (PC download) today.

Green Man Gaming has Rome 2 for $47.99 this weekend (19% off). Get Games is still selling it for $46.76 too. It unlocks in just a few days!

There's a coupon that makes it $10. GFDAUG20

With the latest Paradox sale, any interest in taking Dungeonland for a spin? It's a four player action game where one person plays the GM, or 3 vs AI. I'd like to give it a go today.

Any takers, let your voice be heard in the game's thread.

Oh, that would be so wonderful. That game was full of great ideas.

Yes, I loved it so. Even as it repeatedly broke my heart by freaking out and stalling all my trains every time I built a rail system with more branches than a bamboo plant. Let alone those times when I had the audacious, shimmering insanity to try running two lines into a station with two platforms.

Has anyone played this that can tell me if it's less impenetrable than the first one? I love the idea of this game but the interface and tutorials were so bad in the original that I literally couldn't pass the tutorial. I've tried multiple times and after the third attempt, gave up and uninstalled it.

I just played the tutorial. I'm afraid my initial impression is that you won't like this one.

The interface and design are much the same, except they are significantly more complex because the game is too. You can now adjust the timetable of individual freakin' bus routes, so it's clear that the intent of the designers is to add more fiddly bits, rather than streamline them out. The maps also feel much larger, though the new graphics engine is pretty damn impressive, and is throwing these complex monstrosities around my screen at 60FPS at any zoom level. That the engine actually lets you zoom out now is a major win, and the fact that it doesn't slow down is a triumph of optimization. The game now feels more like "Cities XL in Motion" than "Streetcars in a Fishtank".

If you're looking for a bigger, faster, deeper Cities in Motion, then I think this will work for you. If you'd prefer a leaner, more focused and approachable Cities in Motion, then this is not the one.

Now if only we could get a non-buggy "Sid Meier's Railroads! II", we might both be happy.

Definitely fun times with Dungeonland tonight. Certainly worth the modest investment in the Humble Bundle.

Skulls of the Shogun is 50% off on Steam today. $7.49. Think it was a PAX deal.

Newegg has the following download codes:

Bioshock Infinite $16

Borderlands 2 $12

Has anyone ever had to interact with HumbleBundle support? I purchased the paradox bundle a few hours after it launched, have the paypal history and transaction ID, funds removed etc, but have yet to receive an email from them with a link to the keys page.

I contacted them via email on 30th August, but haven't had anything other than automated responses. I'd hate to miss out on the bundle, especially since I have actually already bought it, and I'd rather not have to buy it twice.

I haven't but something tells me it might have been automatic because of the holiday weekend.

My eBay listing of some 360 games is currently going for practically nothing if anyone here is interested:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lot-of-Xbox-...

It's a steal at its current price.

Ahh, it wasn't a Holiday here That's probably what it is, thanks. Just hope they get back to me within 2 days before the bundle finishes

Why so cheap? You could get a lot more than 50$ if you trade those in at Gamestop/BB/Amazon, especially if you trade towards a new console?

You'll probably get a response today. No matter what, they strike me as the kind of place that is going to do you right, especially if you've got a transaction receipt and funds deducted, even if the bundle had expired.

I've bought a ton of HumbleBundles, and have never missed an email - have you checked your spam filter?

I don't think his goal is to sell it at $50.

Derp.

I agree it's a super low price, but that's just to give people an incentive to bid.

I already went to my local GameStop and since I don't have the cases and manuals, they flat out told me that they couldn't verify I hadn't "stolen all of the games" and would only accept 5 at a time per day lest he get in trouble and fired. That would have necessitated multiple trips I don't feel like making just to end up getting $3 per game anyway, so I figured eBay was the way to go.

The only reason I don't have them is they were taking up an entire bookcase and after watching a "Sessler's Something" where Adam Sessler argued for getting rid of his cases, I decided to do the same. Doesn't make me a thief as GameStop seems to think. >.<

TBH, that sounds like a BS line from someone who doesn't want to "waste time" checking-in used games.

So much of GameStop's profit and business model comes from buying back used games, that I doubt they'd have a policy where they assume a customer is a thief just because you don't have manuals and cases. I'd call up a different store (and mention you were called a thief) and see what they say.

To me, I would have MORE flags go off in my head if someone was coming in every day for two weeks straight trading in a handful of games, especially if they're looking for cash instead of store credit.

Very good point. Unfortunately, the nearest Best Buy and GameStop to where I live is over an hour away.

I can understand not wanting to sit there and manually type in each game but I was really put off by the idea that I had stolen them. He said they couldn't be sure because the condition of the discs were very good. I told him that I just take very good care of my things but I guess I can also see why someone could twist that as a reason the games were stolen.

I'm way too passive to get angry about it, I just traded in the handful of games and left.

Be sure to go to the Humblebundle site and log in. You can find a list of all the bundles you've purchased, with download codes and everything. If it still isn't up there, then I'd start to worry.

Holy crap. Metro Last Light is on Sale for $20 on Steam.

That's actually a copy-paste job from CheapAssGamer, but I did some re-formatting and stripped out the space bucks in defiance of space buckiness. (Though non-Americanadians will have to check their own XBLMs for their prices.)

The humble support ninja @humblesupport has been active on Twitter again today, I'd shoot them a message there just to prompt things. Though they did mention a huge backlog of emails from the holiday weekend.

That was quick. And cheap.
