Can't see 3D with PS3 and new TV

I recently purchased the LG 47LM4600 television through a Woot deal. I plugged my PS3 into the TV and it recognized that it was 3D capable. I put on Dredd 3D and watched about 20 mins of the movie and didn't notice any 3D. I lifted my glasses and there didn't seem to be anything happening to the image onscreen to suggest it was producing a 3D image.

Anyone know how to get the 3D working?

Is this the procedure you went through?

I did. Do you have a similar setup?

No, no. I don't have 3D TV but I was just trying to confirm that this was what popped up and the process you went through when you connected them.

Have you confirmed in the XMB settings that the 3D is actually enabled?

I've had a look around and I can't see any major posts about problems with 3D movies except when a receiver or some other third piece of equipment is between the PS3 and the TV - which you don't appear to have. The only other thing I can suggest is going through the process again:

Settings>Display Settings>Video Output Settings, select HDMI>Next>Automatic>Next...and let it do the handshake.

Sorry I can't be more help!

The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is that 3D specifically has to be enabled on both the player and the TV, and at least on my TV it was disabled by default.

If you have it turned on in the PS3, did you also make sure 3D is turned on in the TV's settings?

You _might_ also have to turn it on in the BluRay disc settings.... I mean, in the menu of the disc when you start to play it. I've never tried to play 3D, and that's just a wild-assed guess, but you could take a look.

edit: oh, also, you're going straight from the PS3 to the TV, no receiver in between?

Also is the TV active or passive 3D? If it's active the glasses need to be turned on and synced up with the TV.

Small chance this will help you, but after tearing my hair out trying to get my setup running, here's what worked for me (with a different TV by Panasonic):

With the blue-ray movie menu open I used the TV remote (from the manufacturer) to toggle the 3D setting on (as this remote has a button to do this). After that I could get the movie to play properly no problem. Occasionally the 3D signal has dropped out and I can use the remote again to force it back into 3D. Must say I don't use the 3D for movies much because of this.

If you too have such a button, I hope that's helpful!

Thanks guys.

Turns out I'm just an idiot. I somehow missed the subtly labeled button in the center of the remote.

Sigh.

That's weird, why would the Home button activate 3D...

Depending on your setup 3D mode should kick in when the system detects a 3D signal, so I think you're being a bit hard on yourself Gowat. Having a universal remote myself it took me ages to think of checking the vestigal TV-only remote and fix my own signal issue the first (and second) time around.

That's funny I have almost the exact same TV and I never had to hit the 3d button to make 3d content work. When I plugged my ps3 in and popped in a 3d movie a prompt would come up on the screen saying it has detected 3d content would you like to enable 3d and then I just hit ok.

Make sure you are not using the convert 2d to 3d the TV has built in as that is crap. Also if you are running a hdmi cable to a audio reciever and then from the receiver to the TV, the receiver needs to support 3d.
