Dear Amazon.com Customer,

Thank you for your recent Chromecast purchase. Earlier today, you received an email indicating an incorrect estimated order delivery of late October. We are actively fulfilling orders weekly based on customer order date and all customers who placed orders prior to August 7 should receive their orders in the coming weeks and into mid-September. We will notify you as soon as your item ships and apologize for the confusion.

We hope to see you again soon!

Streaming pretty much any media to Chromecast from a CM device, and without Chrome tabs. Seems to be direct streaming (over the wifi?), so if you use your phone for other stuff the video/audio will pause or stop.

Now that Chrome can have applications running outside of Chrome, he also cooked up a web server app that can be used to stream to the Chromecast from a PC directly rather than the WebRTC that a browser tab would usually rely on.

As the article states; this alone is worth flashing CM on your phone; regardless of what a joy CM was back when I used it.
I've tried to keep my devices as nexus-like as possible, but DAMN!!

We're loving ours. My TV has a Netflix app, but it is so much easier to find a show on the PC, and then pop it over to the CC. I'm also thrilled that Google Music works through it since the TV is hooked up to the good stereo, and there is no app for it through the Samsung store. Anyone with wifi and a free HDMI port should grab one of these (unless you already have a solution you are absolutely not going to move away from).

I've seen word that if you buy at BB now, you get the 3 months of netflix. Initially I understood that the Netflix offer ended very quickly due to demand.

Is the Netflix offer back on? If I order from Amazon, will I get the 3 months?

Play store says it's over, but I saw last week on a deal site that BB was emailing out the Netflix codes later.

Got one coming from Best Buy, who has already sent me the Netflix code. Will probably hook it up in the bedroom to try and take it when we travel.

Same here, ordered mine today.

Looks like Google updated the Chromecast to disable the aircast-type apps.

I'll be grabbing a Chromecast once my Lima gets delivered. Very curious to see how these two play together.

HOLY CRAP that Lima looks cool. Do we have a thread about it? curious to see what other GWJer opinions are.

It's still awaiting funding, but I am also a (second batch) backer.

Ok, so what was the original name? Plug?
did someone else own that name, or was the term too common to copyright?

Post about it here.

I just got the "shipped" email.
It's going to a friend in NJ first then on to me in the Great (not so) White North.

I'll do an unboxing!!!

OK, I did an unboxing but not on film.
It's pretty cool. Connects to your wifi after you set it up with yoru device. You tell it what to stream, but here's the kicker. It doesnt steam from your device. it streams from the wifi connected internet connection.
Infact, while I am watching Inglourious Basterds via my Google Play account, it often looses connection to the Chromecast and I need to reconnect if I want to pause. It uses little extra battery since it's not actually playing any video on the device. I expect the battery would go down faster if I were actually streaming my device to the screen though I don't now if that's possible with a devie and may only be possible with a wifi enabled laptop.

I see me using this in our bedroom where I don't have any connection to the web from my TV. No Netflix or Youtube.

So far I'm pleased and I look forward to seeing what other apps we get.

Is it possible to set up a ChromeCast to play videos from an Android device when there's no wifi network for the two devices to connect over?

In other words, if I'm in a hotel with no usable wifi and I have videos on an Android phone and a ChromeCast, can I do some sort of direct "casting" over an ad hoc network?

You can't stream files from your device to the Chromecast. Google specifically disabled that ability in the last update. Maybe they will add it back in.

I havn't tried to connect to the device's own portable wifi network. Not sure if it would work but worth a try.
But you are still stuck with the inability to play local files, BUT if you have google play and have rented a movie then potentially you could do it, but again, it would be over your own data.

Maybe I'll try it tonight.

Meh. I've got a Galaxy S4 on its way and a 64GB card for it, and if I could easily play media from it to a TV instead of carrying around a long HDMI cable and adapter for my MacBook Air when I travel, that would be nice.

This looked like it would be just the thing.

You could get the HDMI adapter for the S4 and plug it into the TV or get a Miracast dongle which will play back the screen of your device.

here's my little review how to play youtube via chromecast without WiFi available. Yes, you could just use a HDMI cable and clone your device to the TV but this is cooler. No wires and your device is now the Remote that you can walk around with.

The only media that you will be able to play with this, for now, is youtube, netflix or Whatever you have in Google Play. Music and Movies.

It won;t let you play anything local. But I like that you could essentially have all your music available (google music allows you to upload 20000 tracks) and you can flip through it wherever you are in the house.

The latter sounds like what I might be looking for.

The problem is that it's not an infrastructure that's gotten a ton of traction yet. The Verge wrote piece on it this week.

There are devices that will do it, though. I looked into this one a bit.

Also of note, Win 8.1 will natively support Miracast.

We have like 10 or so different Miracast devices at work that we experiment with and they work great.

So is this a non-AppleTV AppleTV?

Kinda.

Boss just handed me a Chromecast to play with. Apparently enough of our client districts are going 1:1 with Chromebooks and the like that we're most likely adding those to our conference room setups. Any tips or guides for neat things to do with one?

I'd be interested as well.
Bro is going to LA next week and I'd like to get one for my house and a second one for the office if anyone could stand by it.

Just got my Chromecast, courtesy of Apple, of all people.
The guys from Apple went to California last week and got a couple.
Told me it's a "terrible experience", but I'll take that with a grain truckload of salt.

My impressions sometime over the weekend.
