OK, dynasty leaguers. Let's chat.
Based on our previous conversations, we are proceeding with the following keeper rule: teams may retain up to 18 players from the previous season's roster. I have set this rule in the league site. Go to the FF site and select your keepers.
There is one other piece of business to discuss: draft style. For the "seed" draft, we drafted in the standard "snake" format. It is not uncommon for dynasty leagues to dispense with this draft format in the following years, proceeding with an NFL style worst-to-first, non-snake draft order.
Fleaflicker gives us a few options: standard snake draft, non-snake draft, snake from rounds 3+, snake from rounds 4+, and snake from rounds 5+.
I would like your opinions on the draft options. I had never considered the idea of partial snaking draft styles until I saw those options in FF. My general thought process has been towards a non-snaking draft, but I put it up for discussion.

Stupid question. How do you select a keeper? I just see cut options.
Invites from fleaflicker.com have gone out to everyone for whom I had an email address (which is everyone who played last year plus S0LIDARITY and Top_Shelf). If you're expecting a promotion/invitation, check your inboxes. Evo, bandit0013, and Shiiison, you have a PM.
Also, Ckozelic has jumped into the Keeper fray and taken over Laarrs' Tebows.
I'm still waiting on four entry fees for Pro, but I can bang on the front doors of two of them so Gumbie, Minase, where ya at?
*Legion*, what's going on with Dynasty? If you need me to coordinate something, let me know. For everyone else in Dynasty, harass *Legion* to provide some information about what's up with your league.
Finally, we're almost ready to fire up the http://whenisgood.net/ polls for draft days. As information, the regular season start on 9/5 and the last games of preseason are on 8/29. We obviously don't have to wait until after preseason to draft (though you risk a late - or is it super-early? - injury that way). Start checking your calendars and keep an eye on this thread for links to the polls.
Hey, Grump, could you send the invite again? I thought I was registered on Fleaflicker, but it turns out I wasn't. I'll shoot you a PM too.

Are we setting a minimum on how many we have to keep?
I've never done a dynasty league before this one, so maybe a 101 question, the draft is all players, including ones not drafted last year plus ones cut this year?
I like the idea of a worst-to-first draft, even if it is just the the first three or five rounds and after that snake.
I'm okay with non-snake because it will help keep the league parity.
Are we setting a minimum on how many we have to keep?
I can't seem to find it right now, but I thought that we had discussed this and decided that there would be no minimum on keepers.

This.
I'm good with non-snake last to first. Seems to make sense.
I am good with me picking my entire team and then everyone going in whatever order they want.

Team > Settings > Set My Keepers
Are we setting a minimum on how many we have to keep?
No. Unless Fleaflicker enforces one (the setting in the commish options is just "Number of Keepers", no bottom limit. I'm pretty certain there isn't a bottom limit, though).

Correct. The draft pool consists of everyone not kept on a fantasy roster. That includes players who ended last year as fantasy free agents, players who were on rosters but whose owner opted not to keep them, and the incoming NFL rookie class.
I like the idea of a worst-t-first draft, even if it is just the the first three or five rounds and after that snake.

Agreed with all of you. That's basically what I was expecting to go with, and I only really brought it up to see if there was any interest in the "snake after 3/4/5 rounds" idea, just because I had never heard of that before and it was staring me in the face when I went to the draft settings. Something like that probably makes more sense in a limited keeper league than a dynasty.
If there's no objection, we'll go forward with a full non-snaking draft.
Count me in for worst-to-first.
Legion, do you have a deadline in mind for when we need to have our keepers set by?
edit: Jesus, I must have been drinking heavily when I drafted this team. Kicker is probably my second strongest position.
Just did a draft for a 4-team league with my son, so I'm all reved up and eager for our D1 Draft! Just praying it'll be at a time I can actually do it and not rely on the autobot/decepticon system.
Just did a draft for a 4-team league
Seriously, my 9 year old boy and his best friend DESPERATELY wanted to be in a league, but they didn't want to be in a league with strangers. So this kids dad and I set up the league and did it as a 4-person team on NFL.com. Worked fantastically. Obviously, we have some pretty baller teams!!!

I did a 4 team league with my family when I was about 11.
I got Emmitt Smith and Barry Sanders.
It was tight.
In a 4 team league I'd take all Cowboys players.
There was something in a Bill Simmons column last year about 4-team leagues being the most fun. No one ever has to rely on the likes of Eli Manning or Rashard Mendenhall. Every team looks like an all-pro roster. I'm not jumping at the idea but I can see some merit.
Four-team leagues can be really fun if you get creative with the rosters and rules. Like, QBs and Kickers only, or TDs only.

Tight? Did you just land in a time machine from 1996?

I was, in fact, talking about the early '90s.

Bill Simmons is an idiot. Just sayin'.

It was a reader suggestion.
I may have missed this, but has there been discussion of draft date or time? (DII)

Once everyone is registered, Grumps will post a "whenisgood" link for each division. And you go there, and put in all the possible times you could draft. Then he will try to match up everyone's schedule.

Really? He's fun. Long-winded and a huge homer but still fun.

The first option has the recipient pay the fee, the second has you pay the fee (unless the money comes from your paypal balance or a bank account, rather than a credit card).
And yet, 25% of the folks managed to do it wrong. If they have winnings, I'll recoup the difference at the end of the season, otherwise, I'll just split the $308.85 I have as best I can.
I hope I wasn't one of the 25%. I didn't see anything like kaos described though.
I was one of the 25% wasn't I?
