The gameplay varies but none of them are ever really bad.

I'll eventually give it another try, but I'm still sticking with "yes, 8's draw and junction system really was that stupid and poorly thought out".

It's more which story and themes appeals to the most at the time.

Can't get behind this either, which is funny because I was at that angsty teenager age, which seems to be what you needed to be at in order to like Squall.

Why'd you make me refresh you son of a Female Doggo?

Mwahahahahaha

Quintin was right! You are the monster!

VALIDATION!

I'm willing to go to bat for FFVIII. Drawing rather sucked, but Junctioning was awesome. Triple Triad was better than crack. The storyline is appealingly bananas--you're in a boarding school for mercenaries and monsters are beamed in from the moon? Great. And it's the game that gave us gunblades and the medical condition Seifer Elbow. I read an entire book on Sartre waiting for summons to finish. Really, my only issue with the game is that you can't name the band--I was really hoping to name mine "Quistis Trepe and the Bad SeeDs."

I'm thinking of turning off FFIV right now (after I finally made some progress) and popping FFVIII in, just to spite all you torch-bearing villagers. I just look different, and I didn't mean to harm the old blind man! I asked the Doctor to make me a companion, and he wouldn't do it!

That samurai guy with the mustache looks like on of the characters in the tales game

Ok, I can't seem to get into FFIV on my phone. It's the revamped one. I ended up buying Chrono Trigger and I'm just playing that instead. Also, my FFI doesn't want to play on my phone so I can't play that either.

That is a very awesome band name.

I can't hate on FF8 that much, since it was my very first Final Fantasy, as well as my first Playstation game.

I'll just leave this here.

Damn you, Grenn! That site is really funny, but it's tempting me to whip out the PS3 to download that bad boy!

On my list of things I hated about FF8, Triple Triad comes in 2nd place, just under chocobos.

What's wrong with chocobos. Not to mention that little tamagotchi chocobo thing was awesome.

Aside from being the worst thing ever, there's nothing wrong with them. u_u

Q-stone was just traumatized as a child.

I just got to this (caution, NSFW) and just...damn, I haven't laughed that hard since...well, since Cards Against Humanity on Saturday.

Dear Lord that was wonderful. Clearly the best thing to come from Final Fantasy 8.

Thank you Grenn. You led me to something that finally gives that game purpose.

That was a really fun read. Good nostalgia trip. That being said it reinforces my opinion that your never supposed to think about the plot or dialogue of a final fantasy game too hard. Tends to fall apart when you do. The series tends to run of the rule of cool plus plot railroading...

Anyone giving 12 a spin? I am. About to enter Draklor Laboratories. The game is surprisingly fun, but I can't forgive the fact they implemented RNG to the loot you get from chests. Want an ultimate weapon? Play the game to several random factors, going through loopholes online to find out what factors you can and can't control, and try your luck. The f*ck happened there? I the best item I've found inside a chest was 374 Gil. Online walkthroughs stated that chest should have a Shell Shield inside. Guess I played my numbers wrong.

12 is tied for my favorite FF with 6. I would replay it now but I'm holding out hope for an HD edition.

I love Final Fantasy (or I wouldn't be reading this thread I guess), but super-rare-random-drops and strategy-guide-required-super-treasures are pretty common. (I remember farming a tiny obscure plot of a few squares in FF6 to find rare dinosaurs who had a rare drop required for Ultima.) I have to admit, though, the absolute lunkheadedness of the Zodiac Spear in FF12 is the most egregious example of it. It's a game I otherwise loved, one of my favorites of the series, but I definitely "WTF?"'d when I read about it.

IX had a weapon you could only find if you were semi-speedrunning the game.

You're talking about the Dinosaur Forest, in the World of Ruin. It wasn't required for Ultima, it was the safest/easier way to get the Economizer. You could also bet the Soul of Thamasa/Gem Box, or steal one from Aquila, but Brachiosaur was the easiest method.

I agree that every FF has had some hidden/farming things to find, but the difference is that the Zodiac Spear was a bit of a "ha ha, we fooled you" backhanded slap. If you didn't go the "don't open certain chests" route, say because you didn't know about it (I'm in that boat too), then your chances of getting it from that single rare spawn chest are 0.1%. I can't think of any other ultimate weapon/hidden weapon in any FF game that is anywhere near that difficult to get.

EDIT: Speaking of FF6, I've been listening non-stop to the FF6 OC Remix that was posted earlier (and a few other places), and it's mind-blowing. For instance, the Opera was a great piece in MIDI, but this version blows it away:

But you really haven't lived until you've heard Strago's theme in dubstep:

And my absolute favorite, the Magic House:

Seriously, this is the best work OC Remix has done yet, and it's free. Go get it, and thanks to the person who posted it earlier.

I would LOVE a Final Fantasy 6(III) remake. Not a port with added stuff, a complete ground up remake with additional content. I have so many fond memories of that game and to be able to see that with PS4/XBoxOne graphics, I would be in heaven. From the music to the characters that game was truly an amazing piece of work.

Think he's talking about 12 for HD. Since X is getting an HD version, and if it sells well, XII is supposed to follow.
