Payday 2

Pages

Search didn't turn up anything for payday 2, the sequel on here. Any interest in this?

Was watching a stream and reading about it, looks like something i'll enjoy so i'll probably be pickin it up with the edition that gets me in beta..

Steam kinda alerted me to the game on it's popup today as i'd never really noticed it before.

I've been playing the beta a bit. It's got quite a harsh starting experience for newbs the first few heists, I hope they can change that and still give the pros their ultra-hard punishing game. Right now you only get a tiny bit of xp and no money from a failed heist.

They also seem to have moved from longer scripted missions to a mission being either a single to multiple days (or stages) and each stage is lightly scripted, and more varied over the range of stages.

Purchased the 4-pack for me and my buddies.

If anyone is looking for beta keys, they're streaming right now for giveaways:

Already got my pre-order in.

I've been playing quite a bit myself, i really enjoy the game so far.

Quite challenging, teamwork definitely required.

The missions have good difficulty levels so new players can get in and succeed easily enough to start getting some skills from leveling.

I have a spare beta key in my steam inventory from buying in with the CC edition.

Enjoyed PayDay 1. Someone compared it to L4D2 which I thought was a fair comparison. Co-op kill everything, try to get to the next level.

Got my pre-order in as well.

Oh, you guys made a new thread.

Do you want to use the old group as well?

I have already set it up as to all can invite.

Oh, and release date have been move to the 13 of August.

Yeah, stick with the old group. We have one Borderlands group for B1 and B2 as well.

Anyone getting it for the Xbox? Co op might be fun

OVERKILL just gave Payday 1 owners Payday 2 beta access.

Woot woot!

Played the beta. It's nice so far. But man, the difficult rank up fast.. Level 4, and sniper got auto shots... :S

CheckM8, Got you this morning into the group.

I told myself that I need to finish SPAZ as quickly as possible before Payday2 and SaintsRow4 go out... I might not be able to do that. Irl friends are now hype because of the beta...

Thought I might drop in here to let people know, if you have Payday 1 on Steam, and have stats in it (i.e. have played it), Overkill has just opened up the Payday 2 beta to you. Just go to your uninstalled games list in your library and you should see the beta there. Peace!

Welcome on the forum.

Relax and have fun. Maybe join our group if you want? You seem to love Payday from a google search.

Hope you like it around here.

I'm installing the beta if anyone wants to give it a shot sometime today. Don't know if I'm going to play it much since the full release is just 3 days away.

Someone shoot me a invite. Totally up for a session today. Any others?

Nighttime PST?

Anyone available for a group this afternoon?

From the beta is Payday a noticeable step up in gameplay from the orginal? Close to going with the Green Man Gaming deal to dive into some challenging co-op. I liked the first one enough but it didn't quite have that addictive hook I was expecting.

Preordered. Please invite to Steam group.

The prices on items seem way out of whack and kind of ridiculous. A pump shotgun is $108,000, an AK-47 is $13,000, and a new grip for that AK-47 is something like $64,000... even though I apparently have two of them. I'm still not clear on that, how you can get multiples of an attachment but you can't sell the extras and you still need to pay (ridiculous prices) to put either of them on a gun.

Seems like making the player pay huge amounts of cash to do anything is just a way to force them to grind, as that's what most online games were doing: quick, high-difficulty runs of easy maps. I think the pacing would be better if we could spend the money we save in our offshore account... but we can't, and I'm not really sure what, if anything, that money is actually for.

I played enough to get a taste for it and to inform me of how I want to spend my early money and points. Seems like the best way to become everyone's best friend is to get yourself a circular saw, and the best way not to get instantly kicked is to bring a suppressed pistol.

Getting the unlock puts 1 quantity of that attachment in the black market for you. Getting it again means you could buy it for 2 guns. Without finding it twice, if you wanted to put it on two different guns, you'd have to return it to the store for almost nothing then buy it all over again on second gun and no longer have it on the first.

The cash only feels like a problem at lower levels or if you want to constantly repsec your skill trees at high levels. There's aboslutely no issues getting the cash quite easily to pay for all the weapons and attachments you want...sure you can't do it all in one mission, but wtf, there's supposed to be like 30 heists at launch, the beta just has a small sampling of them. Also at higher difficulties some 3 day heists can net you 500k spending money... You will grind for unlock cards, yes. I find it "good enough to be very fun"

True that to the silenced pistol. Can't believe how many heists were blown because someone thought it'd be a great idea to shoot the guard out back or a store manager with an unsilenced weapon in the middle of a stealth attempt. You get a pistol supporessor for free at the start...folks should use it or just don't shoot, at all, on stealth runs.

I hit the cap in beta several days ago so i'm just waiting on release now since it's only like 2 days away and they

WILL BE WIPING ALL CHARACTERS FOR RELEASE. This has not been an open beta and they've been wiping regularly and will be at release per their annoucement posts.

You've made some very bold statements there, Fuzz. Thanks for the info.

So, what's the verdict? Worth 30 bucks if you're mainly going to play with random pubbies?

Depends how much you like the concept and co-op gaming i guess. It's a solid game but it's not gonna win any awards.

PayDay 1 was lots of fun and I definitely felt I got my money's worth ($19.99 if I remember correctly).

PayDay 2 seems to have more than triple the content and the community seems even more robust than PayDay 1. I haven't played the beta yet (don't like spoilers) but I'm sure I'll be happy with the purchase. As others have said it's like L4D2 with guns. There's always an issue, to me, with community when you have a multiplayer game that spans several nightly sessions. Life gets in the way and the group often gets broken up. With games like PayDay 1/2 and L4D2, repeat sessions is never a worry since the current session can be completed in one sitting.

It appears as if there is enough GWJ interest to have plenty of folks to play with without resorting to a pub. And honestly, I think my best pub experiences were with PayDay 1. I always seemed to play with guys in their 20's/30's that spoke clear and concise English and were interested in developing a strategy to complete the heist.
