Left 4 Dead 2 Catch All

OK just picked this one up on the Steam sale and would love to go hunt some undead with y'all! Can a brother get an invite? (Steam ID in my sig).

Versus tonight? Versus? Yeah? Versus? Okay, good.

Those of you who have been playing in the last week will know that I've gotten back into it! You'll also know that I've been having some problems...

My game will suddenly freeze up, replaying the last second or so of video and audio. This generally happens a couple times a night, lasting for 1 or 2 seconds. Those episodes usually seem to go unnoticed (or at least unremarked upon). Occasionally, however, maybe once every other night (maybe more frequently) this will last 7 or 8 seconds, at which time my tank or survivor is just standing around somewhere. It hasn't been a super big deal yet, you guys are great, so when my computer gets over itself I have come back to a paused screen, not a lifeless corpse.

Anyways, that gets to my question, does anyone have an idea for which component in my machine may be responsible for this error? It has also happened playing Supreme Commander. My guess is that it's the video card, because L4D2 doesn't seem like it'd be very processor intensive. Any other ideas?

You might want to try going into Options -> Video -> Advanced Settings, and disabling the "Multicore Rendering"

It's a long shot, but back in the day people used to have some L4D performance problems that this resolved. I thought they patched that problem, but might be worth a try.

That is a strange issue. Whether or not it's intensive for a particular part might be irrelevant, as hardware fails all the time for a great variety of reasons. That said, it does kind of sound like the video card, yes. Any chance you can find another card to troubleshoot with? I'm assuming you hadn't changed anything before it started happening? Driver update etc.

Burnt: That is unlikely, as he's seen the problem in Supreme Commander, as well.

Edit: I suppose you should try running something that actually stresses your GPU. Witcher 2, Metro, Crysis.

I don't have another graphics card available to do any testing. It's pretty old though, 9800 GT, so it may be time just on general principles...

I had a similar issue a while back and this did solve the problem.

It's a long shot, but I had a problem with intermittent 1-2 second hangs for a while that turned out to be because the wrong driver was installed for my WiFi card. It wasn't only in one specific game though. Either way, it might be worth checking/upgrading drivers for everything. Beyond that, my guess would be video card related, as others have said.

Reading too quickly - missed that it was happening on Supreme Commander.

Does seem like a good excuse completely reasonable option to get a new video card

Same, though mine would also sometimes crash.

So, yeah, I'll just leave this here.......

I'm surprised nobody noticed the subject line a little below that - "HL3 heard screaming from basement again. Todd, please check ball gag placement."

There was a link to a .ru site with a timer for the release date of l4d3...

We posted that in the HL3 thread, was made by Scratch even.

Anyone up for a VS match tonight after 7pm PST?

So... 4 AM?

That is indeed 4 AM. Somewhat par for the course in GWJ Versus. When you can swing it, I highly recommend stopping by.

That said, the only reason I'm ever able to play with these jerks is because my sleep schedule is maniacal, so I don't blame you for not being able to.

My game time starts around 9PM PST, which I guess is 6AM in the land of lutefisk. Not sure if tonight will turn out to be a gaming night for me as I have a birthday party to attend, but I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I don't have a bedtime until university starts in September, so I can technically kill zombies all night.

I'll add you to steam and maybe join up if you're playing later. : )

That's midnight for me, but I'll try to get on. Feel free to add me in Steam.

I just realized, I've been watching this thread for a year or so now and I've played a few game here and there but some how, I've never realized I wasn't in the group. Would it be possible to get an invite to the group?

It's not only possible, I just sent you one.

Thanks Hyetal, I've been wondering why I've never seen a notice for any Left 4 Dead games till I glance in this thread three days after the game ended.

Sorry about dropping out after only a minute or so. Hopefully I can get my mouse issues fixed and can play again.

2 very close, very fun games. The first one finished around 150 pts apart, the second one around 200 pts. Internet High-five to Taidaan! Way to hold it down.

Anyone for some playin' tonight?

I'd be down, be warned I haven't played in over half a year and I'm not entirely sure my microphone works.

Blog update

Building on the work from our last update, we are now releasing the entire set of “older” Left 4 Dead 1 models

Louis with hair... check.

GWJ has a Group Server running again. Lobby owner should be in the GWJ L4D group to use it. Snarespeak is installed.

I like the sound of all of that.

Thanks for a really fun game tonight! I liked the part with the zombies.
