FF13: Official GWJFFL 2013 signup and discussion thread

Pages

This thread is specifically for signup to, and discussion about, the GWJFFL, the official Fantasy Football League(s) of Gamers with Jobs. For general fantasy football, please visit the catch-all thread.

Be sure to read the “New for 2013” section below this post

Registration is on a first come, first serve basis, with priority given to returning owners. Teams who sign up after all positions are filled will be added to a waiting list to be contacted should a slot become available. The waiting list carries over from year to year so signing up as an alternate for this season reserves your position until you forfeit it.

While the structure and rules of the GWJFFL are based on the (now defunct) World Championship of Online Fantasy Football, the GWJFFL is a dynamic league and subject to evolution. Please review the official GWJFFL rules to ensure you are familiar with them.

Significant highlights include:

Roster Requirements: Maximum of 20 players. (23 players for GWJFFLD.)

Lineups Requirements:
Starting lineups will consist of
1 QB
1 RB
3 WR
1 TE
2 Flex players (a RB, WR, or TE)
1 PK
1 Team Defense/Special team

Point Calculations: Team scoring will be carried out to the hundredth (e.g. a team may score 94.75 points).

Free Agent Acquisitions/Blind Bidding: The free agent system will be a “blind bidding” process. Each team will start with $100 free agent “dollars” for the season, and will be permitted to bid for free agents on a weekly basis. No team will be informed of any other team’s free agent bids until after the winning bids have been awarded. A team owner will no longer be able to bid on free agents once their season long waiver wire cap of $100 has been reached.

Promotion and Relegation: In order to provide additional incentive for competitive play, the GWJFFL uses a promotion and relegation system. If and only if positions for promotion do not come available through natural attrition, the rules for relegation from the upper divisions will be implemented.

For detailed scoring information and additional information regarding the free agent acquisition process (including examples) and relegation, refer to the rules document.

Returning veterans (only last year counts) that post by 23:59 CDT next Wednesday, August 7, will be guaranteed a spot. (Important Note: If you got left on the waiting list last year, you will be treated as a veteran for the purpose of re-claiming your spot on the waiting list, but you still need to check in.) Beginning August 8, all sign-ups are first come, first serve. Expansion teams (i.e. new owners) should still post ASAP because you'll be added to the waiting list in the order you post to fill what slots remain once the veterans have had their head-start.

Registration will close at 23:59 CDT on Thursday, 08/15.

Again:
* 07/28 to 08/07 - Priority registration: returning owners reclaim their spot; new owners get onto the waiting list
* 08/08 to 08/15 - Open registration

Lo mismo.
Lets do this thang.

I'm back in for Keeper and either Division I or Pro if I qualify for promotion based on finishing 2nd last year in I. (I can't view the rules to see if I do as the google doc requires you to give permission to anyone to view it...)

Huh. It's the same doc we've used for years. I would have sworn that it was shared in the past. Anyway, the sharing should be fixed now; thanks for pointing it out.

That being said, you can more easily check your eligibility on the registration sheet where I've noted that, yes, you are indeed eligible for promotion to Pro.

I'm back for Pro, Keeper, and Dynasty.

Back for Pro and Dynasty.

I'm in for both of my teams...with the potential expansion team in the keeper league

In for Keeper and Dynasty.

My spot on Division I can be given to someone else. Too many leagues.

I'd like to participate if there's room. I've never done a GWJ league before, so I'm coming in as a complete rookie here.

This looks like it's going to be a great year in the GWJFFL. I'd like to reclaim my spot in

GWJFFL Pro

as well as

GWJFFL Keeper

as well as

GWJFFL Dynasty

I'm also available as a spot-filler in the lower Division leagues as needed.

Thanks!

New for 2013

The GWJFFL continues to evolve and provide additional entertainment options for you. The following changes are new for 2013.

Back to football!

Last year, the GWJFFL got in the Olympic Spirit but this year, it's back to football. The leagues in the "standard" format are renamed as follows:

 • GWJFFL Platinum -> GWJFFL Pro
 • GWJFFL Gold -> GWJFFL Division I
 • GWJFFL Silver -> GWJFFL Division II
 • GWJFFL Bronze -> GWJFFL Division III

The Keeper and Dynasty leagues will retain their names.

----------

For illustrative purposes, the current GWJFFL structure is as follows:

Standard format
Keeper format
Dynasty format

Pro (optional premium league)
Keeper
Dynasty

Division I
Keeper waiting list
Dynasty waiting list

Division II

Division III

Standard waiting list

----------

Registration changes

1. Please note that the overall registration window is slightly shorter this year. While the first phase (priority registration) is roughly the same length as last year, phase two is shorter. This is primarily to allow us a couple extra days to organize draft dates/times. I am confident that the shortened window should have practically no impact on participation as we received zero sign-ups during the second half of registration last year.

2. In previous years, veterans who failed to register during the priority period would lose their team and have to start over as though they were a complete rookie. This year, I've modified the rules slightly so that should a returning veteran not register until after open registration has begun, they will still be able to re-claim their team as long as everyone who registered before them is able to get in.

Roster changes

As the NFL continues to evolve, so does the GWJFFL. One of the two starting RB roster slots has been converted to a Flex (RB/WR/TE) slot. This change will be applied to all leagues, including Keeper and Dynasty.

Scoring changes

As balance to the additional flex slot, we will reduce the scoring per catch from 1 PPR to .5 PPR.

What you need to do

Last year had a number of changes that made the signup process slightly complicated. Luckily, we're not adding any new leagues this time so it should be fairly simple: just clearly indicate which leagues you wish to participate in for 2013.

As for me, I'm back in for both of my teams in Division I and Keeper, respectively.

Good luck!

I'm back for Pro, Dynasty, and to defend the Keeper championship.

Back in for Pro!

In for Division II and Dynasty.

I am in for Division II.

I'm back for another run at the playoffs in Pro and Keeper. All I have to do is hold back from drafting nothing but Seahawks!

Here you go. Please review it as it's a fair amount of tedious detail-oriented work and I'm never sure that I didn't miss something.

Column M will show the keeper price and, if you're curious, column Z will show the inflation over the base price. As shown in column AD (specifically, rows 8 and 9), 85.49% of the 248 players currently on rosters increased in price by 30% or less while only the top 5 points earners (Brees, Rodgers, Brady, Newton, P. Manning) increased by 40% or more.

I'm back for Division I and Dynasty. Keep me on the waiting list for the keeper league.

I'm back for Keeper and tentatively declining my D1 / D2 (relegation) league slot due to too many teams last year. Unless I change my mind in the near future, consider me only returning for Keeper.

I'm in for what I think is Division I? I came in 2nd last year in (what is now) Div II (and only because Hakeem nicks couldn't fall forward for 3 yards), and I think that earned me promotion.

I'm in for Keeper and Dynasty. I think I ha a spot in D1 last year- I'll give that one up, too many teams to manage.

Count me in again for Division II!

No worries... though I recommend you do it before 8/8 if you're gonna. Beyond that, you risk getting locked out.

Also, FYI, if it factored into your decision at all, as long as garion333 and landshrk83 stay retired from D1, you needn't worry about relegation.

That DOES tempt me, but my decision stands (until I change it).

Even if garion333 and landshrk83 _do_ change _their_ mind and unretire, remember that (and admittedly, this is as much a refresher for everyone else as it is directed at you) relegation is only ever exercised when it's necessary in order to accommodate promotions from below. So as long as there's room (e.g. through attrition or retirement) for people to move up, there's no need to force anyone to move down.

Count me in for D-II. I'm sure a newborn in the house will help with my draft prep.

I'm back for pro.

Count me in for Dynasty and out for Division I.

I believe I'm still down in Division III, and I'd be up for playing in premium or keeper as well but I believe those are totally full.
