Does this count?

SyFy movies are a breed unto themselves...

This Is The End had it's moments. Solid B+, A-. It helps if you watch a lot of movies.

Hey look, it's my childhood in movie form!

This wouldn't have worked for me as well as it did if it weren't for the scene at the very end.

Is that the Son of Rambow kid?

(IMDB)

It is the Son of Rambow kid! Initiate 'High Expectations' protocol.

We Redbox'ed this one the other day. I felt like this movie was really just an excuse to get Gemma into leather pants. So many butt shots. Snore.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say you didn't like Into the Blue.

I'm looking forward to Elysium. After District 9, Neill Blomkamp really seems to be an excellent up and coming sci-fi director. Plus Matt Damon.

I'm also looking forward to the the requisite jokes about Elysium, at Elysium's expense.

Red 2: Good, but not as good as its predecessor.

He's topical... which to me is good for sci-fi. It's like that movie with Ethan Hawke and the vampires (name escapes me)... It was cool, kind of weird at times, but it succeeded because it hit on the same story so many of us were dealing with us (oil supply and pricing for everyone).

Great interview and profile of Niell Blomkamp. I'm looking forward to Elysium, but I'm more interested in Chappie.

Thanks for the reminder.

Just got back from The Conjuring, and holy hell was that a great scary flick. I thought my wife was going to rip my arm off at some points.

This is going to be stupid. So stupid. So why do I want to see it so badly?

Because everything aside from Keanu Reeves looks awesome?

Come now, don't make Keanu sad.

If he was sad, would you know?

I know it didn't deserve its own thread, but no one saw The Conjuring? I figured there would be some big love well-done horror flick.

Why did they cast K as a "half-breed" asian character? Are there really no actors in Hollywood with the storyline suggested Ethnic background (or good makeup people) who could look like the character they are describing there?

That is officially a redbox for me. Looks cool as hell but I know K can't pull it off.

My wife is just glad it's out and had its 2nd weekend already so the commercials will stop until the DVD release at least.

The full trailer before WWZ scared the sh*t out of her and ensured that I will be watching that one alone, if ever.

Speaking to PeliBlog (warning, this is Spanish), producer Walter Hamada revealed that The Conjuring has been given an “R” rating by the MPAA, and it’s not because of blood, gore, swearing, sex, or any of the other usual offenders:

“When we sent it [to MPAA], they gave us the R-rating. When we asked them why, they basically said, ‘It’s just so scary. [There are] no specific scenes or tone you could take out to get it PG-13.’”

To give you a little perspective, other horror movies that were deemed not scary enough for an R rating include Drag Me to Hell, The Woman in Black, Mama, The Last Exorcism, The Others and The Ring. Not to mention, of course, Insidious. So just what did The Conjuring do that left the MPAA ratings board cowering in their executive chairs?

Saw 2 Guns today. It's definitely a guy movie.

But that I mean it has a female role that would be a perfect candidate for part two of Anita Sarkeesian's Tropes series.

Spoiler:

She's a once-love-interest of Denzel Washington's that ends up pulling a job to screw him over and, feeling remorseful for her actions, gives a tear-soaked goodbye before being shot in the head (not by Denzel Washington, who still wants to make things work).

Not sure what my feelings on that are. If things were more balanced perhaps I'd not have noticed or cared. I could go deeper into why it could be a good use of tropes as well as bad. Either way, I can see a lot of folks being unhappy with her role in the film.

Otherwise, surprisingly clever. I was expecting just a fun flick like Knockaround Guys or Four Brothers, but I never quite got as serious a tone from this one. Despite the violence, it's more funny than tragic, basically. A good summer action flick if you're into Bromantic not-quite-buddy-cop-but-sort-of movies.

I'm apparently weird; I like Keanu Reeves in movies.

I think he can be humorous... the problem is... usually not when he is intending to... exception being the Bill and Ted movies.

Keanu can be awful, but he can also be pretty effective, like for instance in The Matrix, or Speed. And once in a blue moon you get an actual performace out of him. He's genuinely good in The Gift, for instance.

Thumbsucker too.

Imagine you're deep in the forest. Call on your... power animal.
