DOTA 2 Catch-all

Man, the last two days have been rough. Several matches, all losses. Most of them I can point to someone else, but in at least two of them, I was a significant contributor to our loss (including one GWJ game...sorry guys).

Ugh.

Really? What game was that Johnny? : p

EDIT: but seriously, I was a bit worried about you in the RL.

Thank you. Much appreciated. Just a family issue that chose to raise its head during a DOTA match. Silly wives...don't they see when we playing a video game?

Well, Dota2 Released on Linux today.

It was added on my Ubuntu Laptop.

The Dota2 test app was working. So I guess it will be nice

Should i rename my alt account to something similar if I log in and join the GWJ's channel ?

Been watching a JohnnyMojo and co game. Your Sven is way too gutsy.

EDIT: WHY DIDN'T YOU ROSHAN AFTER KILLING LICH!?!?!?

OK, new lesson. Be mindful of frustration levels when mixing DOTA and Dark souls.

Great games Mojo. You have no idea how much I needed that.

Edit: I broke four dotabuff records with that last match.

That game was going really bad until Pudge abandoned. I think that says something about Pudge. Or, at least, something about people that pick Pudge.

Gah! PLaying low level sucks, particularly when playing with people who think they know it all (like me!). I was trying to keep the creep near our tower, and Juggernaut goes after the opposing team only to die. Then I receive a "Leshrac reported for AFK feeding". WHAT?? If I had followed him, he would have gotten us both killed. He continued to feed and blame me. Another time I was out of mana, so backed off (leshrac not being the hardiest of souls) and he accused me of purposely killing him. The other team members started jumping all over me for that as well. Don't get me started on what they started yelling when I denied two towers. (Down to a sliver of health, one shot would have taken them down).

Frustrating. Definitely not the most fun game of the evening. Usually it's much better.

There needs to be an, "It Gets Better" campaign for Dota/LoL.

That was a Hell of a match. I spectate it, it was too nice.

I am seeing similar stuff. Disappointing when my laning partner is auto attacking. And chasing when I can't help. I tend to use a mic to communicate so it helps a little bit. But I try not to be too preachy because a lot of people don't respond well to any form of suggestion.

And I keep losing. I'm not doing things that stereotypical bad players do. I must be doing other things

A recommendation I received from friends is just to report people and move on when they do stuff. I also have something like "If you can be constructive, I can follow advice. If you're a dick I'll just ignore you." as a hotkey

But all in all, being paired with low people and losing is starting to get disappointing. And when I join queue with a higher MMR friend of mine we often get a team where we have 4 noobish people and him. Against a 4 noobish people and solid player. And we manage to lose.

There are a few of us that can do some match analysis if people want us to review their play and offer some areas of improvement.

My item build is so odd. Before things started to turn around, all I had was arcane's and a force staff. Then, we apparently killed a bunch of people because I had like 4000 gold so I just said screw it and built a bloodstone. I got bt's just for the hell of it after I deconstructed my arcane's. Looking at their stats, I completely misjudged the threats on their team. I kept getting killed by Huskar and Bloodseeker while Lion seemed pretty dumb and I barely saw Shadow Fiend. That's why I got a ghost scepter and didn't bother with a pipe or a bkb. Just before the game ended, I noticed that I had 6300 sitting there and almost went to buy a rapier just because the thought of an Ogre Magi with a rapier is kind of hilarious. Upgrading to ethereal blade might not have been a bad idea though. I probably could have one shot anybody on their team with it and a good multicast.

I might take you up on that. I'm pretty solid until about 15 minutes or so, then I start getting sloppy. My end game goes either way, depending largely on team makeup, but i know I still overextend pretty regularly.

Just post a match ID and we'll take a look.

Thanks for the offer. When I next play some pubs I'll take you guys up on it! <3

Good games tonight! Even the one we lost against those 200+ guys was fun.

Will the compendium matches be during the weekend? I so dearly want to watch them, but I'm only at my gaming pc during the weekend. And watching replays just isn't the same imo.

ITEM TALK: DIFFUSAL BLADE

So I noticed that when I was playign with some of you, that you were perplexed by what I was yammering about in conjunction with Diffusal blade. I realise that some of the items can be as opaque to understand as the heroes. Let's Remedy that!

So, Diffusal Blade (DB) -- on the most basic level its a weapon that gives Agi and Int stats, that be upgraded for to give slightly more Agi and Int. However, its defining property is Mana Burn!(OKay its called feedback, but its basically the same as the Antimage skill) Mana burn is a Unique Attack Modifer (UAM), meaning it cannot usually be stacked with other UAMs, like Mask of MAdness, or Desolator, or Skadi. It removes 20 from the target with each hit, matching with health. That is to say if the target has no mana, it looks no bonus health. More effecitve on high mana heroes like lion, and less effective against Centaur or the liek with low mana, and high healthy. When you upgrade Diffusal, it increases its mana burn from 20 to thirty something.

Diffusal is also the only UAM that carries over to illusions! That is why it is in the recommended build on all Illusions heroes: PL, Naga, Spectre. It's even good on Chaos knight, though less so, since he's a strength hero.

So,why not upgrade Diffusal, to diffusal level 2 immediate? Well, 1) There are more cost effective ways to get stats. 2) PURGE ! Purge is the Active ability on Diffusal, and its pretty kick ass. IT does 99999 damage to summoned units -- that goes for skeletons, Fire Golems, Illusions, Gargoyles, and Beastmasters dog. Easy money from Visage and Warlock , and undoes their main "Thing." Purge also Slows a hero and removes magic effects from them -- slowing down Dark Seer/removing his sprint. Or CM's Aura, or Razors Stolen Damage. It also can be put on friendly units. You might see a Riki do this in a Match with BH or Slardar (or Dust). Sure he might slow himself, but he removes the track to return to invisibility.

Purge is super similar to Shadow Demons Ult.....Purge.

However, Purge has limited charges! 8 actually! The only way to can get more is to upgrade the blade! So its best to focus on other items until you use up all your charges. Then upgrade.

Hope that helps!

Also, I like putting Diffusal on Lina, and stacking attack speed. This is true.

Edit: This not a thing I recommend, it is something that I am compelled to do.

I was playing Lion in a co-op game and I ulted a creep while trying to mana drain them. Twice.

Maybe I should move that hotkey.

Hahah this made me chuckle. I can easily see this happening and then sitting back and swearing for a bit.

Ugh, don't watch the Giantbomb quick look. On top of their usual derision of anything fantasy-based (which has always been a really odd attitude for people that cover video games), they have Brad trying to teach.

Meh, I found it enjoyable to watch, even if Brad isnt the best source of info. (Snipers Q does do damage to towers).

Man, what is it about people that pick Pudge? I think half of all abandons that I witness are Pudges.

I'm convinced that in most low level games it's someone who picked a hero because in the last game they played, they got rolled by the same hero. They realize that it's not the hero but how you play that lets you snowball and wreck a game by leaving it.
