Defiance: new blend of MMO

Any regular PC players in a clan? I am starting a clan with my Bro and a few friends, just to make grouping easier.

I'm waiting for it to go back on sale on steam...

I'm hoping it does during this sale. I think my other brother wants to play but won't at the regular price.

the Defiance Player Hub is finally working on thier website.
Here is mine with a comparison of my Clanmates from Clan McLeod (there can be only one)

Weird, it's not working now.
Hmm. They must be testing.

One of the gripes I heard about this game is that you play and play and play but don't feel like you are progressing at all despite getting lots of loot and skills.

Any truth to this? If it is like Planetside where you get wider rather than deeper (i.e. more variable but not necessarily piles more powerful) I will still be hooked. But if the variety and depth aren't there, I'm not sure I will get into this.

It depends on what you're looking for I suppose. The basic concept of the game though is that someone with a week of playtime should be able to operate at a pretty similar level as someone that's been playing since release. Weapon upgrades and EGO skills are both significant, but take a back seat to player ability. On the spectrum between Sandbox and Treadmill it's far closer to Sandbox.

And jumping and 4x4ing is just damn good fun!

I really like the goals you need to hit to get extra outfits. I had fun using smgs and the virus weps.

I guess for some people there might be. For me I don't though. My EGO rating is always going up and I'm always finding a new weapon or mod that I want to try. It is fairly balanced in terms of weapon power though as all weapons can be used in PVP. The better ones are not exponentially better, but they are enough better to be on the looking for them.

the big thing about PVP isnt the weapons as much as it is the shields and skills that higher EGO players have. The damage mitigation taht the higher players have over lower ones can seem unfair. It's easy to overcome but can be annoying.

True. The last patch lowered the levels required for unlocking Perk slots so people should be able to get those faster now.

I'm around 3k ego and now I only get one-shotted by an up-close shotgun blast to the back from stealth 8 out of 10 times instead of 10 out of 10. Yay for mitigation!

lol i'm around 11k ego and still using a level ~500 shotgun for pvp because it's so damn amazing.

I just broke 300! at 311 now.

If we fill up the white bar on a weapon what happens? I'm half way through a few of them.

you stop getting weapon skill ups from that particular weapon

Ah thanks,
I'm reading up on it all here

So what is the scope with sniper rifles? They seem very innaccurate. Do you need to perk up or level them up to be effective? Is it a balance thing why you don't get a cross hair in zoom mode? (you get one with a pistol or machine gun but not sniper?)

I need to find more weapon types. I like the pistol and the light machine gun is okay but they could be lots better. I'm hoping one of the shotguns and/or grenade launcher will do the trick. Or the "laser" weapons look interesting but I bet it takes a while to get one of those.

I got my first weapon mod but have no idea how to attach it to a weapon.

I don't like that you can't steer vehicles with the mouse. (or at least hold right click to steer) With all the clutter on the road, vehicles can become unwieldy very quickly.

It is a little rocky at the start. I locked up once and have been disconnected from the server 3 times along with some pretty lengthy load times. I am having fun though and I can see it growing as I continue to play.

I'm not help on the sniper front as I don't use them.

The BMG I think it the laser weapon you see. You should fine one fairly early or buy one from a vendor. They can heal yourself and teammates or hurt enemies.

This mod guide covers how it works pretty well.

I get a dot in my sniper scopes. you line up the center dot with the head and you hit your target. I do, most of the time if my dot is on the target. Later on you will be able to get mods to give you better accuracy. More on that later

There re 2 types of shotguns, one is a pump action and the other is semi automatic. Pump requires you to reload after eanc 2-shell shot but is more powerful. The semi-auto one will shoot 6-8 shots as fast as you can pull the trigger. less damage but can be deadly. Then there are different lug/shell types to watch for.

I got my first weapon mod but have no idea how to attach it to a weapon.

Mods are added to weapons that have slots. When you get a weapon with slots you will know it. As you level up you will gain the ability to add slots to a weapon even if they don't show blanks. The weapons that have blank slots you have to add slots to the blanks. Once you have added a slot or already have one available you can add a mod to it. There are 4 mods. Magazine, Barrel, Hilt, Sight.

I don't like that you can't steer vehicles with the mouse. (or at least hold right click to steer) With all the clutter on the road, vehicles can become unwieldy very quickly.

You'll get used to it.

I am having a blast!

only time i've seen sniper rifles inaccurate was during beta where there was a bug with the mod scopes that you could put on sniper rifles. They were fixed by launch and now they're reasonably accurate, but there does seem to be a slight sway in all guns. All the scopes i've used have had cross hairs of different designs so not sure what you're seeing if there's none. Unless you're graphics are glitching.

Actually there are three types of shotgun:

Combat shotguns are fully automatic, and generally reload the entire magazine at once.

Pump shotguns are semi-automatic and usually require you to reload one shell at a time. You can interrupt the reload and shoot what you'e already loaded.

Sawed-off shotguns fire both barrels at once, and reload one shell at a time but the reload cannot be interrupted.

There are random exceptions within each class of shotgun (hell - some shotguns shoot grenades), but that's generally how it works.

My eyes! They buuuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrnnnnnnnn!

Played for about 30mins this morning before work seems like a fun game.

I am having fun but I am also having hard core crashing. As a matter of fact, there is pretty much an exact spot while leaving the east bunker and trying to head to marin that will crash and force a reboot even in windowed mode. I turned off a bunch of graphical settings to no avail. The graphics drivers were updated last week. I don't get it.

Oh and I got a nifty assault rifle that shoots fire bullets =)

I had a lot of fun when I played. I think i just took a break to try something else and just have not gone back!

Yeah, same here. It's one of those games that I really enjoy while I am playing, but completely forget about when I'm not.

I figure the crashing isn't Defiance. I think my cpu is over heating. WHat is the range that they shut down automatically at 100 degrees? I downloaded the open hardware manager thingy and while playing one of my other FPS or TPS's it peaked at 91 or 93 degrees.

I am using the stock cooler/fan which everyone says sucks but it has worked up until now. I think it is time to get one of them hu212 thingies or whatever it is that you guys use.

Played a bunch of this last night. Did some Arc drops and had a great time.

Glanced at the notes, the one thing that caught my eye was at the bottom: Arcfalls have been adjusted so they aren't all hellbugs all the time. This pleases me.
