...wow. Please tell me that's fake.

I'm not sure which quote is dumber.

I cannot state the truth of that. But that is Australia, not Florida for anyone wondering.

Yeah... That right there is not our finest hour. Can I pull the Cletus card on these guys? Looks like this paper is from one of our deep south equivalents (think plantation country with less overt racism, we took care of that on the Apple Isle with a little bit of 19th century genocide. Saved us from dealing with that nasty slavery business!).

Sounds like the lazy way out. Why not do both genocide and slavery, like AMERICA?

To be fair, we didn't import anyone aside from ourselves and our natives had no respect for concepts like 'work' or 'rampant disease'. We had to take care of both jobs ourselves!

But I digress. Pope, head of Catholic church, possibly evil guy but who isn't these days, right?

The Pope and the Devil: Is Francis an Exorcist?

VATICAN CITY (AP) — Pope Francis’ fascination with the devil took on remarkable new twists Tuesday, with a well-known exorcist insisting Francis helped “liberate” a Mexican man possessed by four different demons despite the Vatican’s insistence that no such papal exorcism took place.

The case concerns a 43-year-old husband and father who traveled to Rome from Mexico to attend Francis’ Mass on Sunday in St. Peter’s Square. At the end of the Mass, Francis blessed several wheelchair-bound faithful as he always does, including a man possessed by the devil, according to the priest who brought him, the Rev. Juan Rivas.

...

In the book “Heaven and Earth,” Bergoglio devoted the second chapter to “The Devil” and said in no uncertain terms that he believes in the devil and that Satan’s fruits are “destruction, division, hatred and calumny.”

“Perhaps its greatest success in these times has been to make us think that it doesn’t exist, that everything can be traced to a purely human plan,” he wrote.

Italian newspapers noted that the late Pope John Paul II performed an exorcism in 1982 — near the same spot where Francis prayed over the young disabled man Sunday.

Pope Verbal?

Why would four demons inhabit one man? Do they need one demon per limb? Or perhaps one for the arms, one for the legs, one for the torso and one for the head? Or was he simply like a crowded bus?

One more and they form Voltron!

Just so you know...I did a spit-take on that.

Have giant robot anime shows taught you nothing?!!

Great now I have visions of demons in a guy's head, doing the lock-step thing shown in the Pacific Rim trailers.

... first thought when the thread was bumped: Oh crap, again?
Now I'm slightly disappointed.

Frankly, I'm completely fine with people who embrace the idea of the Pope also embracing the idea of demon possession. It's the people who are devoted Catholic and scoff at the idea of demons that make me wonder.

My new religion is based on Supernatural. It's the first LARP religion.

Beats the hell out of getting crushed by a rock building a cathedral while your kids starve at home.

And sad.

Wait, do modern Catholics still believe in Purgatory? I thought that went the way of the Indulgences.

The link title alone tells you that both of those are very much alive in Catholic Belief.

This is real?

Nope, it's still part of the deal.

Yup. Catholics have to spend some time cleaning themselves up so they don't tramp sin all over heaven's carpet. Of course by "cleaning themselves up" the Church really means painful torture and burning.

I'm glad this new pope is really focusing on priorities. Who has time to worry about an epidemic of child molesting priests or a Vatican that's embroiled in corruption and organized crime when there are nuns and priests driving around in flashy new cars?

And now he's resurrecting one of the worst things the church has ever done to tarnish its moral standing: selling salvation. I'm sure Pope Callixtus III is spinning in his grave knowing that Francis is selling indulgences for the equivalent of a Facebook like.

That's the first thing I thought of when I heard about this. Maybe he'll start taking Bitcoins next?

Hey, salvation has never been cheaper!
