wow..that is dumb.. (not that site in any way..thats useful) but the fact that in this day and age of Digital Distribution storefronts that its that complicated to sell your game to customers. There must be something happening behind the scenes that I'm just not aware of that is preventing them from using a different storefront.

Got to admit I'm more interested in why someone is dos attacking them than about the game itself. I'll wait on the game to be fleshed out a bit more.

Yeah I'm starting to wonder if there might be something not right with this... seems a bit extreme to DDOS this random game from a small indie crew with this level of fervor.

My guess is that, profit motive aside, they didn't figure on the game getting so much attention in its alpha state, and so didn't prioritize distribution yet. Maybe this attack will convince them to get some real distribution set up, like HumbleBundle and/or Steam.

Really, just look at what Rogue Legacy has done, and copy that. Which is a good time to mention that anyone who can't buy this and is looking for a game to play should listen to last week's GWJ podcast and play the Rogue Legacy demo - which almost immediately translated into a purchase from me. In fact, I could hardly stop playing the demo long enough to buy, and only did so because demo progress doesn't do anything for you when you start the real game.

Found a desert biome/new city on LM's server, just take the road west out of Taradara City (the road that starts from the NW corner of the city). It's a slightly harder than the current zone, but not too bad yet.

Thanks for this. Found a camel because of the directions. I wasn't sure I'd ever find desert

See that's the thing I'm trying to think of reasons of why someone would bother to ddos them. I can't think of any except for purely personal ones. Like they ticked someone off for whatever reason. Or they could be lying but I doubt that a lot. No good reason to lie.

Not to mention ddos attacks are sort of expensive over time. 4chan adverts this by just having a hoard of people but an individual would need some resources for this. Of course they are also fairly easy to do. Fun stuff. Eh not for the Dev or the fans I suppose...

Some people just want to watch the world burn. /Alfred

Kind of small scale for world burning... hard to imagine some dude cackling maniacly over a 404 page.

I meant doing something bad or disruptive, for the sake of doing something bad or disruptive. From what I'm reading it's just a guy and his wife, so there is either some weird back story, or just someone being a dick because they can.

Trying to understand the motives of such a person is probably, thankfully, futile for most of us.

The shop is up right now! Yay!

Buy Buy Buy!

Dive dive dive!

Still can't create account, blast!

Probably the worst thing about this whole situation (other than not being able to buy/sell the game) is the fact that the dev has to waste his time managing the store when he could be working on the game. As TheGameguru said upthread, it seems a shame that, in the age of ubiquitous online distributors, Picroma is having such a difficult time trying to sell their game.

I really wonder why they didn't just go the Steam Early Access route? Maybe they'll consider it more seriously now. I personally hate having to create some new account for a random website I'll never remember.

It's literally just a husband/wife pair making Cube World, and everything I've read about them makes it sound as though they just want to keep distribution as direct and simple as possible. These DDOS attacks may be harming them in the short term but they'll blow over eventually, and in the meanwhile it's drumming up a lot of publicity and interest the game may not otherwise have gotten. Steam is just an unnecessary level of abstraction.

You say "unnecessary level of abstraction", I say "valuable and reliable means of distribution with built-in features that'd probably help this game quite a bit".

It's all too easy to armchair quarterback. As has been stated, this is a husband-and-wife team, releasing the first release of an alpha title. I'm sure they didn't expect the response they're getting and don't exactly have a team to deal with expediting changes in distribution. Who here has direct experience getting a title onto Steam? What are the steps and timeline to go through the Greenlight process? Do we know that they haven't tried already?

I'm sure glad we've never seen any AAA title or Steam releases have any problems with unexpected demand and overloading servers/bandwidth.

Certainly not saying that I have any experience with it. However, I'd assume that Steam has far more experience and safeguards for DDoS attacks among other things. Just an observation from a unabashed Steam fan boy

Yeah, because getting on Steam is just so easy.

With the reception they've had? I'd have to assume Steam would be more than willing to accommodate.

You assume much, and you know what they say about assuming.

It's worth 2 in the bush?

Drats! The shop is closed down again :(. The waiting continues...

finger -> assume ?

finger -> assume ?

Woohoo! finger -> assume DP.

For anyone who is interested, Stylez and I started a new series of our All Together Now show and we're doing Cube World. Neither of us knew what it was until the day before we started recording and we decided to go into the game completely cold and blind, knowing nothing of how it works and only that it was apparently some blend of Minecraft and Zelda. We had a blast with this video and more are coming!a. We had a blast with this video and more are coming!

Since its impossible to register or even buy the game.. I refuse to believe that it actually exists...which leads to the real possibility that all of you and perhaps even the entire "internet" is just a figment of my wild imagination.

Is the mantis-server down? or did the game just bug out on me on connect...
