Rogue Legacy 1 & 2

My only complaint is those platform you have to down hit to activate. I don't find the controls responsive enough to actually do it with any regularity. I don't mind when it's a wide open room but when the level forces you to cross them or fall on spikes I always end up falling and running along the spikes.

Finally defeated the first boss. I used Polypusher's strategy and it worked like a charm. Started clearing out the forest and am pulling in enough cash to afford some of the more expensive upgrades.

Thanks, Pso. I was excited to try that method. Sadly, after hours of trying to get that working, I've given up. It just flat out will not work no matter what I friggin' try. Sorry, as I write this, I've spent about an hour and a half (on top of two) getting pissed off. I can get no gamepads to work. I've watched numerous tutorials. It appears to be easy for everybody else but me.

If I could get the control-pad working for this game, it would rock. While I got JoyToKey working, it's very clear that it's sub-optimal. It's got that hint of kludgy that keeps me from pulling off rocking attacks.

Get 191 and x86. Install in the Rogue Legacy directory. Run and GO! Works for most controllers.

I had a great run last night, clearing out all the Castle and Forest, but my 303 HP Lich King still wasn't enough to kill the Forest guardian. I'll probably lock it down so I can try with a more hearty class. That run ended with just over 8K, and lots of armor and runes. Having the fire ring spell as a weaker class helps so much.

Much love to the Hermes Shoes.

I have six controllers (two sidewinders, two generics, one snes-style generic)

It's worth the premium to get a 360 controller. Seriously. Every game in the past 5 years that supports controllers is plug and play. As I said earlier in the thread, it's one of PC gaming's best investments.

Or use a PS3 controller if you have it. I prefer the plug and play of the 360 controller, but the PS3 controller does play well with a PC.

I disagree. Just use the appropriate utilities for ensuring compatibility, like the ones I linked. No need to waste money.

Which he already tried when someone linked it on the previous page.

Three guardians down. I’ve been playing the absolute sh*t out of this game.

Edit: Double post.

Eyeball boss down. Assassin + Gigantism + max Crit gear + Retaliation rune + Conflux (? the spell that shoots spiky bouncy balls in all directions). Made it with 15 HP to spare.

I was rendering a video with Sony Vegas in the background, meaning that Rogue Legacy wasn't exactly running at optimum smoothness, and the game froze for like twenty seconds right after the final Crit hit and killed the boss. I was freaking out, thinking it had crashed and I'd have to Ctl+Alt+Del out and lose my progress. But sure 'nough, it game back and I got that sweet phat loot. Nice.

Also, protip for newbies: you can tell which paintings are actually monsters by pausing the game. The monster paintings will have their stats listed on the pause screen.

I ended up taking down the Forest guardian with a Spellsword. I had some vampirism and mana regen enchantments along with double-jump and dash. Finally I had a scythe as my magic weapon. I would focus on not being on the boss’s vertical or horizontal projectile line, and attack his creeps to regenerate mana. Then I would turn towards the boss and spam powered up scythes. This would hurt the boss and kill more creeps (on top of regenerating some health too). It’s a bit of a long fight, but it’s pretty easy to avoid things.

All this talk about controllers. I figure I should tell you all that your controllers are weak. This is what I've been using to play.

Sadly, it doesn't make up for the lack of equipment items I've found so far.

Zane, you have heart. What I don't have anymore is time.

So I bought a $30 Mad Katz 360 controller and holy hell on a crutch how good it feels to play this game properly.

I'm starting to get to the point now where I don't have just one "optimum" gear / rune setup; I actually have to examine my stuff and respec depending on what class I'm using / playstyle I'm going for / whether I'm on a straight money run or speccing for tough combat.

This game just keeps getting better.

At least you can finally play it properly. So much fun, sir.

The graphics and the music are amazing as well. Not everyone likes pixel art, but I love it.

I love 8-bit stuff. I'm actually thinking of starting over to re-build my guy. I'm wondering if it's worth it. Any ideas? I've just been mucking about, but am starting to think that the steady-increasing stat-boost costs mean that there's an added layer of planning.

Ah, I wouldn't think too much about it. I have watched a few streamers play the game and it never seemed to be too much of an issue.

Just bought it from the Dev's site, and waiting for the humble store to process the transaction...

How long can it take? I have been waiting like 10 minutes.. :S That's not normal, is it?

EDIT : Ok, it worked.. 15 minutes wait, that was long...

Seems interesting. Can't just up and buy it at full price with the Steam sale coming so soon though. Wishlisted, waiting for sale.

Whoohoo! 7K run with my Hokage!

Finally bought that third level of Gold Gain.

I should probably think about trying to tackle the Forest boss soon.

Edit: Holy crap, the Forest boss was crazy easy compared to the Castle one. I took him down with close to full health.

Such a brilliant game! I really enjoy how you slowly advance each area to "farm status" through both leveling and greater mastery of the controls/enemies. Nice and relaxing until you have a run where you sense that you could actually earn your most expensive available upgrade, and then the tension rapidly gets higher as you close in on the magic number.

I will echo the comments from others that the second boss was far easier than the first. Not sure why those two weren't flipped.

It's true some of the later classes help alot with the Castle guardian, but I found the chaos of the Forest guardian to be much harder to deal with. I will say that if you get a good character roll, he's not too bad if you take him down fast, but I can't agree that 2 is easier than 1.

Such a run! Shattered my old 6k record with a 12.5k run. I'm sure I'll find such runs pedestrian in a day or two, but it was immensely satisfying to purchase the level 2 and 3 Gold Gain upgrades in a single go, and still have plenty of cash left over for another big upgrade.

It might depend on your build / drops. I can only speak for my own experience, but at the time I was rolling with an absolute mess of Vampirism gear, so his creeps were nothing more than floating health potions, and a flight rune made dodging his big silly four-ways blasts stupid easy.

This game hates me. Played for two hours and not a single hokage came up as a possible heir. T_T

Edit, found this on the community page. I always knew they were dangerous, but damn...

After almost 20 hours of play I just realized the Paladin can turn into a statue by pressing down and y, a la Super Mario 3's Tanuki suit. I'm not sure if it's because of my retaliation runes, but when enemies touch me in the statue state, they get hurt. Awesome.

I was killed by a McRib too!

I loved when I killed the first boss and then died, there was a giant eyeball in the center of my screen.

What level are you guys? I think I'm around 98 but haven't been paying to close attention. I've got at least one level in every skill now, too.

Now that I've got a bunch of Siphon gear and a few points into mana cost reduction, I'm reaching the point where Archmages are a viable option and not just a novelty. Daggers and Axes that can one-hit enemies and gain back more mana than they cost? Yes, please.

"When Alexander saw the breadth of his domain he wept for there were no more worlds to conquer...because he was a stupid floating skull who I just murdered in his stupid face".

Pretty sure that's how that goes...

Man I'm still at the point where 500 gold is a good day's haul.
