EA's NCAA Football 14 Catch-All

The idea of league play really appeals to me. More games should support this kind of thing. I realize you don't technically have to have it built in - Quake didn't, and AFAIK it was the game that got the ball rolling on league play and clans in modern gaming.

We usually run them at about a week a game. There are usually 3-4 games versus humans, while the rest are versus the CPU. We might roll quicker if here are no human vs. human games. Also, we are pretty lenient if you are in touch and posting when you can get a game in.

League play includes not just the game, but weekly recruiting, which is basically dice roll stuff in which you target certain recruits. You get in-state and pipeline state bonuses, and each player has certain preferences that may or may not apply to your school. It has been revamped for NCAA 14, but I kind of like the minigame nature of it. It's even more fun if there is another Goodjer going after the same guy.

The goal is just like in real life. get your team ranked as high as possible and get into a good bowl. Again, it is even more fun when facing a Goodjer in a bowl game, or the NCG.

And then we just roll to the next season and keep on going.

Oh, I assumed all games would by vs humans. Interesting.

I can vouch for that, since I'm the lone guy around here on PS3 only. But I still have bought 3 years in a row and done at least 2-3 seasons of dynasty every year.

I think the max human players is 12. So it would be tough to have all games vs humans, and it would probably guarantee nobody in the championship and maybe knock some people out of bowls. CPU opponents are like your "FCS games" to help assure your bowl record.

Same here. I didn't play last year's version. Just didn't like it. But usually I play 3 - 5 seasons of a dynasty. I really liked what I saw of the Madden engine. I just don't particularly love pro football. So I'm a bit more excited about NCAA 14 then I have been about previous versions of the game.

Apparently, the longhorns are awesome in this game? That's a pretty nice bone for EA to throw them, seeing as they suck in real life.

There are hints that the demo may be dropping very soon.

Woohoo!

Oh be quiet, and be happy that Johnny Football is the second highest rated player in the game. They also have an LT rated in the top 15.

In all, the SEC has six players in the Top 15, and the Big 12 has zero.

Johnny ain't second in anything. Just ask the Heisman trust.

I won't be happy 'til he's the President of Texas.

Seriously. If they were going by draft predictions, it'd be Clowney/Bridgewater 1/2 or vice versa.

Now, this is good smack talk, no doubt, but I assume you really know that draft predictions would be a terrible metric for an NCAA game. Tebow was a god in college. And he was drafted high, but you understand my point. Totally different game, despite being almost exactly the same game.

Those team ratings are hi-larious.

The Aggie forums have picked them apart, and I have to agree. It really makes you wonder if they're trying.

It reminds me of playing NBA Live back in the day. My buddy and I would play NBA Live on the Genesis. For some reason Ervin Johnson of the Sonics was dominant. We used to joke that the people making the game thought it was Earvin "Magic" Johnson.

I don't know if ratings have ever been perfect. Alabama at 99, 99, 99 is kind of the most hilarious thing to me.

Yeah, Alabama might deserve a 99 for Defense, but Offense?

A&M is underrated in Offense, compared to many other teams. If we aren't considered one of the best offenses by the end of the season, bring this up and I'll eat my words, but there are some teams with terrible offenses that are rated the same as us.

2-10 Kentucky is an 84. 1 higher than 9-4 Vandy from the same division, who beat them 40-0 @UK last year.

I mean... come on...

I don't get to worked up over these kind of ratings. Of course we want them to represent reality, but cannot find any experts that are any more accurate than game debs can be. If anything, they almost always try to error with higher predictions of how a player may perform. The game and experts fail to predict down or up years every season.

All I care about is the balance of stats in regard fairness. It really comes down to producing a balance that can simulate realistic Y/A for passing and rushing. That presents the player with a realistic number of the kind of situations that teams find themselves in real life, as well as the risk/reward of various plays based on down and distance.

Once we start a dynasty, then the season is what it is, and acts as its own separate universe. So when Johnny Football suffers a substantial drop-off in real life, he will still be a stud in our world.

Fixed

I think you both meant to say "When Johnny solidifies GOAT status, wins a second Heisman and a natty, he will still be underrated in this game."

This is starting to feel like the actual NCAA season thread...

Wait, nevermind, it was YOUR bad!

Sorry. My love of Johnny Football escapes the boundaries of threads.

What the hell is coordinator cam?

EDIT: Oh it's in that video you posted... thanks.

From an OS user who played NCAA 14 at E3:

For me it wasn't easy to complete [the deep pass] unless I had an advantage on the outside.

One of the cool little things about the coach screen now is that you can hold a receiver's button and see the matchup with the defender across from him. So you can see how much faster he is, how his release is, how much taller he is, etc.

He also has a blog post up about his experiences with NCAA and Madden.

EDIT: BTW, I noticed in the video I posted above that you can separately set the difficulty on offense and defense. Pretty cool.

Oh man... now that kind of stuff is making me want this after all, when I had just about determined not to get it...
