Forza 4: Catch-All

Anyone up for some racing in the next hour or so?

I'm finding Rivals a pretty good method of racing you guys when there's no one to race.

I'm assuming some of the players of Forza have a Fanatec wheel (in my case CSR). Has anyone heard about compatibility with the Xbox One and Forza 5?

I saw a video somewhere (maybe Wired) where the PM of the new controller mentioned that the way controllers connect to the Xbox One has been revamped. So we may lose wireless connectivity but I'm hoping we'll be able to utilize one of the USB 3.0 ports at least.

I strongly doubt that it'll work without a firmware update of some sorts. The only reason I could think of that even a wired 360 controller would stop working with the XB1 is due to a difference in how signals are sent to the console. But if you could update the firmware so that it functions the same as an XB1 controller, then it'd be an XB1 peripheral rather than a 360 peripheral. After all, it's not like the button layout is changing radically, correct?

That would really suck, if you had to choose between one platform or the other with your setup. I know a lot of people wouldn't 'step back' once they had gone to the newer platform, but even so, it's a hell of a commitment to abandon all you have. Bird in the hand and all that.

I guess the ideal would be a kind of scramble box to interpret and relay the commands, but then you're going to have signal lag issues. Even a 360 dongle would be a better idea. It really is a shame, as it's one more thing I think they got wrong with the new system launch.

Anyone know if there are plans for a next gen rock band? More peripheral incompatibilities to consider.

My guess is that with the XBONE and the PS4 being essentially PCs, that chances of the PC compatible wheels working with a firmware update is fairly high. Sony has always been very USB device friendly but MS's excuse has always been unique 360 I/O architecture. So I suppose MS could go out of their way to piss off users, but...oh yeah they will probably do that:-(

Hi Guys,

I'm looking for a few rivals to race against in Rivals mode. I have zero friends that play Forza 4 so would like to add a few of you if possible.

XBL nic is: KowalskiSA

Cheers!

Feel free to add me. I have both Forza and Horizon.

You might also try joining the GWJ Car Club. I believe you can get rivals from there as well. I'm sure someone on here can get you accepted.

Saw your PM, KramNesnah. I'll get you added later today.

PS also meant to add that I won't be able to do any actual races as my internet connection is not up to it. Rivals is all I'll be able to do. Thx!

Sounds good. For some reason, I get real joy out of the "Star in a Reasonably Priced Car" challenge. I've probably raced that track more than any other.

Forza Rewards, I haz comments on them in the Forizon thread.

Anyone up for some racing tomorrow? With Forza 5 on the ahem, horizon, I've been getting that itch and been playing more often. Although I am completely unable to come close to any of ElectricPi's times.

Have you tried running some of them in the same car as me? Tuning makes a huge difference in some of those events, and I have shared a number of the cars I have used in rivals. If you are just throwing parts at a car (or trying to use stock cars) you won't be able to keep up with a tuned car at all. Try taking a D350 or so stock car, a car with parts bringing it up to D350, and one of the Mazdas I tuned for our last D350 gathering at Laguna Seca around that track. You should see consistent lap speed differences between the three cars.

I made the mistake of playing a bunch of Forza 3 right before Forza 4 came out and I kind of blame that for how little progress I have made in 4. I'm saving it up for 5 this time

I took one of the shared cars for autocross. Didn't realize how tough that was. Just wondering...are the shared cars tuned for the specific rivals event, or do they just have a general upgrade tune?

depends on the individual car. Some are tuned for speciffic events, especially some of the autocross events, but most are pretty general. The cars tuned for autocross generally have shorter gearing and more downforce, but are otherwise about the same. Just watch out for anything not tuned to the limit of a class, or anything with a paintjob refferencing drifting; they *will not* drive in a straight line.

Wow, thanks for the info. This rival stuff is certainly taking me out of my "safe zone". After the initial shock, it's kinda fun driving cars rated higher than B class.

Nice. $3 million credits starting off...thanks. Love Forza 5, but taking time to get used to driving with a game pad and not my Fanatec. In many ways it is nice to not to have to get all set up in my sim cockpit to play...which often means I put it off because of time. I will probably end up playing more Forza 5 than I did 4 because of it.

But, you may have to put up with a scrappy Drivatar for bit until I get the hang of it;-)

As for the whole Xbox One experience, it's pretty rough right now. Definitely a work in progress. And I think I would be entirely let down by this "nextgen" Madden if I had not bought a copy since 10. No need to derail but point is Forza 5 shows what "nextgen" means while Madden certainly does not.
