Awesomenauts Catch-All of Awesomeness! Now on Steam!

Thoughts?

Cyrax - Will try and think of a way to include goodjers who logged in +hrs. I am up for suggestions.

psoplayer - Stick with teammates, "not dying is better than killing" is the most important rule in the game, kill droids, the trick is understanding what each character does even if you don't play them so you understand how they behave.

I was also thinking of creating a team/dummy email account via google so I can organize the tourney publicly. How does 'Goodjernauts' or perhaps 'GWJnauts' sound?

Goodjernauts fits with the game more. What's your planned time for these community projects?

Here's a quick spreadsheet where I am going to sort/organize the event. Are there columns I should add? What I will do is after I collect steam names is do a quick spot check to see where they are at.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...

As far as the event itself. I think it will run over the course of several days and will start after the Humble Bundle is close to ending. Which should be by next monday. Thoughts before I post on Reddit and Awesomenauts forums?

Meh, I couldn't wait. I made it anyway:

If any of you are interested in joining the tourney. Please let me know.

Looking good so far. boogle, carrotpanic, and myself are ready to form a GWJ team, but scheduling issues have raised a couple of questions. How many teams are we going to have to face over the week? Will it be a round-robin setup where we can play them in any order or will it be a bracket where they need to be played in order? Can we have a sub for the team to improve our scheduling options?

Nicely done, checkm-8. I'd also like to participate. Hope we can get at least two teams to rep GWJ.

I should be able to make anything work next week. I've up for being a captain, but what of pso's team he already suggested?

I am about to make the following changes which allows you to jump in Pso's team. Otherwise, I'll pair you up with someone.

**UPDATE PLEASE READ**

I've given it some thought. If you want to back out after reading the following, it's totally fine with me. Simply PM or reply within this thread.

1) **I'm getting rid of the experienced player upgrade limitation rule. Whoever is your experienced player (20+hrs) is allow whatever build order they wish.**
I'm a one Naut show setting up this tourney and I can imagine the headache I'm going to get next week scrutinizing everyone's screenshot after every match to see if they upgraded 'correctly.' The original purpose of the upgrade handicap rule was to make the veteran players less intimidating...however the community response to this event has been nothing short of awesome. I'm getting veterans willing to step up to mentor new players as well as fill in a team spot they desperately need.

2) I will be putting a hard cap on the amount of players that may compete in the tourney. I want to make sure there is an equal amount of teams in the brackets I form. The best way to go about it? I'll form as many teams as possible during the weekend from the spreadsheet I have, see how many we need to be 'even,' and then cap it at a certain amount of players going forward. I'll do my best so that teams don't have a bye. If a bye is forced, the team with the less experience from my spreadsheet in terms of hours/level will get the bye.

3) You are allowed one substitute player on your team to improve your schedule options. One thing I learned from the APL is that there will ALWAYS be a reason for a sub. Please note having one experienced player on your team still applies and I'll have to spot check them as I do with all player competing.

**TD;LR - You still can have only one experienced player, but he/she is not upgrade restricted, there will be a hard cap on the amount of players that may participate, and you are allowed one sub player in case someone on your team is unable to play a match for any reason.**

So I added you, carrot, and Cyrax as one team under the banner GWJ (let me know if you want to change it). Cyrax is the default captain unless you want the job....or Cyrax...did you want to set up your own team and abandon these guys? Remember Cyrax, due to the amount of hours you logged you will be restricted to the 'experienced player' clause.

From what it looks like, from Monday-Friday of next week you will have to face up to three teams. Up to the captains to schedule matches between each other. From there, Friday & Saturday will be the Semi and Finals (two teams). This will not be a bracket set up...easier for me to keep track. As far as subs, i would like to...maybe have to give it some thought....at the this moment not this time given the tourney will be played out over the course of a week. I want everyone to have a chance to get some games in rather than have some rookie sit out because a veteran wants some game time. The veteran clause was created to be a bridge between those who know the game and provide mentoring....so far that's being successful.

I was approached by people with 900+ hrs that are more than happy to help mentoring rather than participating.

This isn't the APL so we can't take take ourselves at that standard. It's all for fun and to get people with little experience in the game to get their feet wet.

EDIT: Gave it some thought and it made sense. HERE, take Cyrax! Otherwise, I'll find him a home.

So... uh, do I need to be on the spreadsheet to be part of the team?

I'll participate if you need somebody. Haven't been playing much these days but I still enjoy the game.

I thought Boogle was your steam name. Misread, my bad, fixed!

Awesome. So we basically have 5 GWJers. 2 20+ vets the others with less than that. Do you know of any friends/GWJers with less than 20hrs that want to compete?

Do you know of any friends/GWJers with less than 20hrs that want to compete?

Nope. The only GWJers I played with are the ones who probably have more than 20+ hours.

I'm going to start linking up players this coming weekend Gdawg/Cyrax. Unless one of you want to be on pso's team and be a sub.

Gdawg's always been a good teammate, so I don't mind a ringer if another goodjer doesn't participate.

Doesn't matter to me. I'll go wherever I'm needed.

Erc and NightFlyer will be your teammates.

Cyrax, I'm still working on forming a team. At the very least I can throw myself in, but I think I have two I'm still working on.

If interested. Please contact Arkio and SSG | Larkony.

I. am. so. confused. So you're splitting gdawg and I up? You're asking if I'm interested in playing when I've already said so?

Awww man. I typed all that gibberish last night while trying to place people 70+ people in teams in that dang excel spreadsheet... HEADACHE!!

So lets get this straight:

You and Gdawg want to form a team together?

Right now I placed you guys into separate teams....err trying to.

I initially thought Gdawg was willing to slot himself into any person needing a team while you were okay with being a sub. I just wanted both of you to participate.

Right now I'm afraid to open reddit to see what messages I got, and if I screwed myself into another headache. :-/

You started this thing with good intentions, so try not to worry yourself and just handle the situation responsibly. I would like to play with Gdawg, yes. If you mismanaged that, fair enough, maybe we'll play separately.

Things are looking good on my end. The lack of communication from your team captain has allowed me to break up your team. Furthermore, I should have a replacement for Gdawg's team which means you two should be able to pair up. Hell, I might end up being your third/sub.

Keep you posted. I hope to have all teams and bracket placements ready.

Hey Cyrax since you're our captain, let us know when you need me and Gdawg for our matches in the tourney.

So, now that we're out of the running, how did our last games go?

You can watch a stream of the game here!

no response from gdawg so I had Megaman8bit who was in another bracket (and lost) as a sub. It was 2v3...so you have an idea how it went.

Was this Wednesday at 10? I'm sorry. I fell asleep.

You were dreaming of participating, am I right?

Sounds good. Count me in.

No problem! I'm going to throw another tourney within a few weeks starting July 14 and concluding August 25 (USA, PST).

Some changes and they're up for debate:

There are no level, #of hours, league, and experience restrictions for this tourney. Everyone can apply. However, team entry priority will be given to players who have already participated in Humble Bundle Tourney #1, Humble Bundle Players, new players, experienced with little to no APL exposure. The spirit of this tourney is to ease beginning players into the game and into the competitive scene.

Round Robin Qualifiers - Teams will play five other teams; one team a week minimum. Teams facing each other will play three games (not best of three). Team match ups are randomly selected. Each win counts as one point, MIA teams get -1 point, teams that have difficulty playing all or some of their matches will get 1 point for each win and 0 points for being unable to participate. Top 16 teams that obtain the most points will move on to the actual tourney. Teams are not restricted in playing one team a week as they can play their other randomly generated opponents.

Tournament - Will occur between August 23-25 and will be constructed of 16 teams with the highest point totals. If there are several teams that tie in point total, the bracket maybe expanded to accommodate. Tie priority is given to teams who participated in Tourney #1, obtained the Humble Bundle, and new players. Bracket set up example here. As such, there will be a loser's bracket. Main bracket will be best of three with exception of Semi (best of 5) and finals (best of 7). Loser bracket will be elimination, best of one match. Teams unable to participate and make time for this part of the tourney will be dq.

Prior to Tourney

- Sign ups end June 13
- Again, there are no level, #of hours, league, and experience restrictions for this tourney. Everyone can apply. However, team entry priority will be given to players who have already participated in Humble Bundle Tourney #1, Humble Bundle Players, new players, experienced with little to no APL exposure. The spirit of this tourney is to ease beginning players into the game and into the competitive scene.
- Players wanting to compete must first create their own team. Up to four players can be in a team. One is captain who is responsible to organize their matches, taking screenshots of wins/losses in case of disputes, and adding me on their steam friendlist to ensure I have a direct line of communication with the team. The fourth player will be a substitute teammate
- Once roster is set, the players cannot be changed
- Team captains must email me goodjernauts atgmaildotcom their team name, players, indicate who is the captain, substitute, and links to everyone's steam profile
- All team members must join the Humble Bundle Group. This will be everyone's direct feed for the latest information about the tourney

During Qualify & Tourney Play

- I will provide a list of the teams you will be facing off each week and must complete. Again, if you are able to schedule matches with your list of other teams, please do so.
- Please do a ping test before your match to ensure the best host(s) are selected. If by chance there are spikes/lags on both sides, each team will take turns hosting, starting with Red Team
- If all players are not present bots can be used to avoid a deduction in points and DQ
- No switching characters mid game
- Switching characters is allowed after every match
- No build-changing exploits allowed (disconnect from game, join game with a different build order)
- Any build is fine, no restrictions
- Maps are random for first game then losing team picks next map
- Teams switch sides after every match
- No hacking, obviously
- Results of each match are to be screenshot by the team captain and posted on the Steam Group for our records

Prizes

First Place - $20 Steam Card per player (yikes...still trying to rethink this, would be a good incentive though)
Second Place - Game of choice I got in my inventory (planning to stockpile a few during steam summer sales)
Third Place - Choice of Awesomenauts Skin

At the end of the tourney, players who have streamed their games during the qualifying rounds and/or tourney will be entered in a random drawing. A player will get a skin or game from my inventory of their choice. The way that this will be tracked is by posting a link to your stream in the Humble Bundle Group when you start your matches. It is strongly encouraged to post on the Awesomenauts Subreddit as well as The Official Awesomenauts Forum to help generate interest for future tourneys.

Thoughts!??!

EDIT: Links are just placeholders with exception of Steam Group.

Friendly reminder to register for the tourney. Deadline is THIS FRIDAY!

Fellow Goodjers, you are going to have to find a replacement for me (perhaps Kyo or hann) only three teams have entered so I am going to fill in a spot for a team needing one more person. If I can't get five teams going the tourney is cancelled because it is needed for round robin. I suspect the gwj community can rally to find members to make teams.

Also, I've been playing with these guys and want to try some unorthodox team compositions and builds.
