Goojers with job opportunities

I'm realizing that the company I've been at for the past two years is a rapidly sinking ship and I need to get out. About time, since I've been wanting out since moving in with my fiancee and my commute turned into 60-90 minutes each way.

I've got five years experience as QA, another two or so years in various areas of college/university offices, six years of running a game store. A lot of that work involved picking up a ton of organization and general ability to get stuff done with a shoestring and a few people (which is valuable, but hard to get across on a resume).

The hitch is that I'm not necessarily interested in staying in the tech area. I don't have any programming skills, and don't have any interest in doing that end of things, so I'm basically capped in the QA field. I could move into project management, and would be interested to, but I've had no luck getting hired into that without direct experience.

I'd be willing to do general office work, would be interested in anything in the publishing field, or hell, something outdoors would be nice too.

Anyone got any leads in the southern New Hampshire or way north of Boston areas?

So I know a lot of you are tech/IT/programmer types. Nashville has a burgeoning entrepreneur scene and is in desperate need of more tech talent. So much so that a bunch of them got together and started this website, "WorkIT Nashville". It has a listing of maybe 1,000 local tech jobs, plus information on the area, cost of living, neighborhoods, etc. It's a combo job search/recruiting tool to help people find jobs in our fair city. Seems pretty slick; certainly better than careerbuilder.

You guys should totes all move here.

With the sequster hitting I'm thinking I'll dip my toe back in to the private side of the fence, at least to get my interviewing skills up.

This is a long shot, but what the heck.

MonoCheli needs a new servant Assistant Innkeeper. This is a salaried position, but does not include living arrangements in the castle. This position is long term, and will be a part of the management team for the castle. Hospitality experience would be great, but isn't strictly necessary.

What we're looking for is: the ability to work hard, the willingness to learn a variety of tasks, ability to work well within a small team.

Potential tasks on any given day could include: office work, event planning, housekeeping, marketing, light cooking, bartending, teaching and/or playing games with guests (yes, that's actually one of the jobs!). Would require overnight innsitting on occasion.

If you or someone you know is interested, PM me here, or email me at jobs at ravenwoodcastle.com.

Thought we had someone for this position, but it seems she flaked out on us. So it's back to the drawing board.

In the off chance that it adds some enticement for a GWJer, we are considering making this a live in position. It wouldn't be in the castle proper, at least not at first, but it would be on site.

PM me or email me at jobs at ravenwoodcastle.com if you're interested.

Just thought I throw this up here: http://www1.appliedsystems.com/en-us/about-us/careers/current-opportunities/

I work for Applied in there Illinois branch and they are definitely hiring. My development group needs at least two more people. I'm not sure about the other locations but I'd imagine they are the same. It's a good place if it's your first job as they are quite flexible with your level of experience. I was hired even though I didn't know any VB.net, they just expected me to learn on the job. Now it's my best language. People are nice and the work is all right. Ah forgot to mention what they do. They sell insurance software to insurance companies. They were one of the few companies that did well during the depression, and still are doing very well. So look it up.

Edit: Located in more places than Illinois, some other states and Canada too. Probable all hiring just like mine.

*poke*

We still have a bunch of positions available in various locations.

All my coworkers are bugging me to:

It is like I walked into the opposite of my old job.

Why can't that be a polymer company? I guess chemicals are too dangerous for flip flops though....

If anyone's looking for a web designer/developer, I'm going to be starting freelance work this month. I do mostly dev work, front end HTML5/CSS3/Javascript/jQuery, as well as server side with PHP with a focus on Wordpress. I also will be utilizing an excellent designer, who is also going freelance this month.

You can PM me for past work/resume/email/quote/anything else.

That's the plan, I'm hoping I can keep busy enough, but so far it looks good

A ballsy move, that.

I keep an eye out for web dev work (basically exactly what you are doing), but don't have the cahoneys to quit my job and try it full time.

It wasn't really planned... I was working with a small studio starting this year, but a month or two ago the owner decides that she would like to pursue her passion of video production, so she's putting the company on halt. I would probably look for full-time work, but since she's introduced me to some of the well-known studios locally, and they are willing to work on a contract basis with me, I think it could work. That, and a lot of the past clients want to work with me for updates here and there.

It actually works out better, if it does work out. I get to continue working from home, and I'll actually make more money and possibly work less, since I can bill more to studios as a freelancer and directly to clients. Just takes more time and management.

Very cool.

If you become SUPER successful and need a part time minion let me know

Haha, anything can happen. I'll keep you in mind

Went through a free resume workshop which much more helpful than I was expecting, now to master the cover letter and with any luck I'll finally get some interviews so I can practice those :/

On the plus side I'm now getting letters to let me know they've found someone/the position is closed which is a nice change from waiting and wondering. The downside is having a small pile of them in the inbox each morning can be a bit discouraging but that's the way these things go.

Question; when applying to non-local opportunities is there any need to state willingness to relocate? I would think it's implied by the fact that you applied.

I think it couldn't hurt to mention it. There are lots of stupid people who apply to postings without any thought as to where it's located. Giving them another piece of data that says, "Hey, I'm not an idiot" is a good thing.
