Steam Trading Cards Catch All

That's still in beta.

Valve is trying to stay ahead advertising wise. We have seen beta being cancelled from valve.

It's a nice feature community-wise, and they know community stick together. I have seen community group all in tha program already because they are like-minded. Those groups were over 50k.

It's already going strong, I would think they got something.

Also, I still an invite to this...

Ditto

Hey, if you're inpatient, you can always buy your way into the beta.

I don't know what to think of this.

Darn, they should revoke those invites lol Really. That's just bad!

I dunno if they should revoke it. Heck, if people get beta invites and don't want them I don't see why getting a little scratch is bad. Especially since Valve takes a bit of the profit.

  • Give out Beta Invites
  • Allow selling of invites, take share of sale
  • Profit

Honestly, it's a bit tempting. Especially for a low price.

I was half considering doing that with any spare invites I get that I can't find homes for. What else are we supposed to do with them?

I'll steal what one of my friends said: Valve create virtual items from nothing, they take a cut of each sale, Valve are geniuses.

From my cold, dead hands.

I'm still confused how this is going to work. For example, in TF2, you get five card drops but there are nine cards. They imply that you have to trade for the other four so I'm assume the card drops don't reset every week like item drops. But, since you can only get five card drops, what the hell are you supposed to trade for the rest of the cards? TF2 already has an economy so there will inevitably be an established refined metal price for cards but what about the games that don't have an economy (Portal, Don't Starve, HL2, CS?)?

Real world currency.

TF2 is also the only game currently with a 9 card set. All the others I think have 5. My guess is you can probably get dupes somehow, as you can level up badges by repeated crafting. Either that or you're supposed to trade away cards from games you don't care about? Ie. idle Sparkleponies and trade those for TF2 cards.

If anything this is good for the community. People would be making cash transactions via Paypal or other means on the side if Valve didn't provide such a service. At least this provides a safe way for someone to buy an item without the risk of just sending money to a stranger on good faith.

Yep.

Plus you get progress towards one of the badges for selling stuff in the market...

Portal and Half-Life have eight cards and four drops. Don't Starve has five cards and three drops. Dota doesn't show up for me even though I have the game but I wouldn't be surprised if that have quite a few cards.

Yep.

Yup, seconded. I have two of "Tiny" from Dota2.

Also, out of invites. If I didn't respond to your PM, they've been used up.

I have three invites in my inventory. PM for them, if you're interested. Also have an extra "Tiny" card from Dota2.

Edit: All tickets used up, thanks! If I get more, I'll post again.

News from Valve:

Trading Card Beta Expanding!
16 MAY 2013 - JOHNC
We've just added another 10,000 users from the Steam Trading Group to the beta - emails are rolling out now.

If you receive an email, there is nothing you need to do, just go to your Badges page to see which games you can earn game cards for. You'll also have 3 more invites in your inventory that you can share with friends.

We know there are many more users waiting to participate, so if things are still looking good and stable we'll roll out more invites in a few hours

I sent out my 3 invites.

Honestly, I like it. If for no other reason than the updated profile.

Thanks Hyetal!

So I joined the group...if anyone has an invite, I'd love one

Rallick wrote:

Thanks as well

Consider this a request for an invite.

Edit: Never mind, I'm in. Not sure if it was an invite from someone (if so, thanks!), or if I was just added from joining the group this morning.

We've just added another 50,000 users from the Steam Trading Group to the beta (in addition to the 10,000 users we added early today).

If you receive an email, there is nothing more you need to do to join, just go to your Badges page to see which games you can earn game cards for. You'll also have 3 more invites in your inventory that you can share with friends.

We'll look to do another expansion of the beta at this same time tomorrow.

The group only has 140k members, so it looks like they're being really aggressive with this. Invites or not, you'll be in before you know it.

I've got two invites left. I made sure Archangel was quickly indoctrinated and welcomed to the amazing trading card world since he seemed so excited about it in the Team Fortress 2 thread.

Edit: And now one invite. Nyx Stele dropped down from the sky and took one out of my hand. Good luck collecting Team Fortress 2 Cards.

I have two invites on an alt account. PM me if you would like one (no coffee grinders).

I have 3 spare invites. Message me on Steam if you want one.

I reinstalled HL2 and played through the apartment section, then found a G-Man card in my inventory when I quit. Only 5 more to go on that one.

If nothing else, this has gotten me to reinstall and play some old games that I really enjoyed. It's also made my hard drive sad, because TF2 is many gigs.

HL2 is one of those games I can easily dip into for a bit when I'm bored of other games, there's just some sequences I love, like the beach assault to Nova Prospekt.

Behold this, my blatant invite request!

Okay, you guys are awesome, but stop sending them, I got 3 already

That seems to be the way Valve does this sort of thing, yeah. I still have a copy of Steam Mobile in my inventory, thanks to getting beta access right before they declared the beta finished.
