I have to say that the soundtrack to far cry 3 blood dragon has really hit all those right 80's notes that just makes it a pure pleasure to listen to.

If you get a chance, do it.

Yeah, there's so much 80's movie glory in there.

This has become my de facto treadmill mix.

Where can one find that soundtrack, Sabre?

Here's at least a few tracks from Blood Dragon. Artist is Power Glove, might have more on their website, I haven't checked.

EDIT. Just checked-- there's not.

EDIT EDIT. Also, full soundtrack on Amazon.

^^ What he said.

It's really good and I thoroughly recommend grabbing it. You get a real 80's vibe from it.

iTunes as well, if you swing that way.

OCRemix launched their Deus Ex remix project this week. 8 remixes of iconic DX themes with a couple tracks featuring Human Revolution and Invisible War as well. Very good stuff there.

I love OCRemix, but I wish they'd do more PC titles. Their Doom remixes were excellent, and I'm looking forward to giving this a try when I get home. Most of the rest of their stuff is from the early console days though, which I have no nostalgia for, and soundtrack remixes are all about the nostalgia!

Heh, I was psyched when I first read the posts about the Blood Dragon soundtrack and thought the band was Powerglove (if you like game music, metal, and crazy live performances, they're excellent), then bummed when I found that it wasn't, then pleasantly surprised anyway when I heard some of the tracks . This Power Glove is apparently a Melbourne retro electronica group (according to an article from Joystiq).

I really enjoyed their Doom albums, also. I love OCRemix in general, though I used to listen to them a lot more back in my days of copious free time and avid game soundtrack/remix consumption. McVaffe, Mazedude, Joshua Morse, and DJPretzel (to name a few) are some of the arrangers in particular whose tracks I almost always enjoy.

Thanks muchly!

Ditto. Mustin and Posu Yan do great work too. Actually, anything to do with the Bad Dudes group or The OneUps is usually outstanding.

The OneUps are excellent, and though I haven't heard many releases from the Bad Dudes (as a group), I've enjoyed much of what I have. Their collaboration album with OCRemix, Heroes vs Villains, had some especially cool tracks on it. Mazedude's "Dieselbrainage" is one of my favorite ReMixes of all time; the crushing of Samus' meek fanfare gives me chills every time I hear it

I'll have to check out some of Posu Yan's work; thanks!

I highly recommend their Metroid and Chrono Trigger albums, and they're currently working on an Earthbound album that was commissioned by Fangamer (whodathunk?). I don't think Bad Dudes have done any group arrangements, it seems more like a loose affiliation of the older members in the VG remix community.

He used to go by the name of "po!" until somewhat recently. Since you're a fan of Joshua Morse you'll like his stuff.

Ah ha! I definitely recognize the name "po!" though I'm blanking on the tracks of his that I've heard. Time to update my OCRemix collection .

Anyone else watching the GameTrailers BackTrack series? Their Chrono Cross episode brought back all sorts of feelings.

Deus Ex always had one of my favorite soundtracks of any game.

OC Remix just released some AMAZING remixes with the album name Deus Ex: Sonic Augmentation

Actually, you can access it from their site if you know where to look. Here's the project page with download and torrent links.

Awesome. Thanks!

Can't believe I didn't find this thread earlier!!! Tagged for future reference, I'm going to dig through the ten pages and eventually share the little gems I find.

Edit: so I'm all caught up! Mostly, anyhow, because YouTube videos don't show up at work, so I'm going to have to go back and listen to stuff I don't know. Was super glad that you guys mentioned ME1-3, VVVVVV, Grim Fandango, The Elder Scrolls of course, Bastion (Zia's Song became my son's lullaby), Machinarium, Planescape, Braid, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 1 & 2, Dragon Age 2, The Neverhood, Portal, Icewind Dale 2, Baldur's Gate 2, Monkey Island, Dreamfall, Botanicula, Guild Wars, Borderlands, Civ 4, 7th Guest & 11th Hour, FTL, NightSky,

Thank you Shoptroll for showing Ken Allen some love when you mentionned his Kickstarter. His works are a HUGE part of my childhood.
Velosi, thanks for the Mozilla addon you mentioned on page two, that's going to come in super handy!!

I'm a big fan of video game soundtracks, like some of you, I use them to drown out the noise of other people in the office, or simply to relax while I read. My all-time favorite composer is probably Mark Morgan, who wrote the scores for Planescape: Torment, as well as Fallout 1 & 2. My favorite of his, however, is the soundtrack for Zork: Nemesis (one of my favorite games ever).
The Temple of Agrippa:

The Crystal Laboratory:

Also a huge fan of Jeremy Soule, you guys already mentioned the Guild Wars soundtracks (squee), Elder Scrolls (Super Squee, I love you Morrowind!), KotOR1, Icewind Dale. Too many favorites to list.

Don't think anyone's mentioned the Myst series, they also have great OSTs. A personal fave, from the Myst 3 OST, "Theme from Edanna":

I love Soule's work on Secret of Evermore and Total Annihilation. I forget who did the original Myst soundtrack, but the main theme is forever etched in my mind.

I believe it was Robyn Miller. He and his brother, Rand, founded Cyan and the two of them created Myst together.

D-Man777, check out this recent tweet.

Battleblock Theater has some of the best music for a comedic game since Rayman Origins. The final song (spoilers!) is insanely catchy and my five year old daughter runs around singing the whole thing over and over again obsessively. Warms the cockles of my heart.

MENU SONG (doesn't really kick in until about 30 secs)

MY FAVORITE SONG FROM ONE OF THE LEVELS

SECRET LEVEL SONG

FINAL SONG ("Buckle Your Pants")

Sweet. I meant to pick up the Myst and Riven soundtracks from Amazon a long long time ago and never did. Hopefully this means they'll be available digitally soon.

I noticed that Distant Worlds: Music From Final Fantasy is going to be coming to the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall next year here in Portland. I'll have to try and make that. It's The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.

It's definitely worth it. I've seen the show twice now, once last year and once in 2005. Awesome stuff. Also, check out Symphony of the Goddess if it comes around, that's the Zelda concert series.

Adding a massive +1 to FFVII (overworld theme brings tears), FFVIII, Interstate 76, Ni No Kuni, Bioshock/Binfinite.

I think how gameplay plays off the music is key. I still have the I'76 soundtrack in my car for long stretches on the road (as dangerous as that may sound).

Rocket Jockey (some Dick Dale tracks and some faux Dick Dale stuff, all of it is amazing). Wish this game would get a remake, loved that multiplayer. Anyone else play this? I get crickets every time I mention it in gamer crowds.

Rock'n'Roll Racing, (maybe I just have some attachment to rock music, fast vehicles and explosions..?)

Quake

And Quake 2

I can embarrassingly claim to having played laser tag with the Quake 2 soundtrack playing at my request.

Oh that is simply awesome!!! Thanks for pointing it out!

I'd just like to add my voice to the crowd that's recommended Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon. It's unbelievably awesome in a cheesy 80s way.

I also just picked up the soundtrack for Lone Survivor but I've yet to listen to it. Has anyone listened to Quite Operational
by Monomer? I heard some good recommendations on it's Electronic / synth / 80s / chiptune mashup so I picked it up as well from Bandcamp.

It looks like Robyn Miller's Myst Soundtrack re-issue may be complete! The Myst 20th Anniversary Remaster is part of the recently announced Retro Game Music Bundle! In addition to Myst, Alexander Brandon's Tyrian soundtrack (one of my favorites!) is also on there, as well as Robert Allen's and Alexander Brandon's Jazz Jackrabit soundtracks (and quite a number of others)!
