Candy Box catch-all

It's a video game. Kinda. RPS wrote about it. Idle Thumbs talked about it.

(This got a nod in the upcoming indy game thread, but this totally needs a catch-all)

Even mentioning what this is may kind of be a spoiler. From my perspective it's kind of like

Spoiler:

Frog Fractions meets Progressquest

Yeah, I'm at the spot where I need to defeat the dragon but haven't been motivated enough to figure out what combination of potions and/or spells I need to use to get past it. So it's just collecting candy and lollipops until I get around to it.

So, hard mode seems pretty ridiculous.

Spoiler:

No matter how many candies I eat, I always have 100 max HP.

Yeah I had to cheat at

Spoiler:

chuck norris

I'm not sure how you win that with a

Spoiler:

healing sword

. Even with cheats I failed twice. Really fun game to mess around with.

I have not beat the dragon yet got him down to 300hp but I think I have an idea that can help me!

Also, what does throwing lp on the ground do for you?

Throwing candy does

Spoiler:

nothing except for making the frowny face

Also a little trick that helps a lot early on

Spoiler:

click the lollipop to make it cheaper

I played on and off for a day or two. I got to the

Spoiler:

dragon

and then accidentally closed my browser without getting the name for my save.

I haven't been motivated to go back to it yet. Neat little game, though.

Holy crap this is addicting.

Spoiler:

I've made it to the castle keep, but can't get past a troll without a number of health potions.

Check the spoiler for the basic strategy against major bosses like the dragon and chuck norris.

Spoiler:

Upon contact, quaff an invulnerability potion. The second it runs out, hit a teleport scroll, which will take you back to the beginning of the screen. You may need to pop two teleports in a row for the potion timer to hit zero again, but when it does, quaff another invulnerability and go to town. Lather, rinse, repeat. Chuck makes this a bit more difficult, as he "closes" when you fight him, so you have to be very diligent about managing your teleports with him. It's possible to defeat him without taking a single point of damage.

This game is the crackiest of cracks.

Where do you get more

Spoiler:

teleportation scrolls? I only got 8 from the wishing well.

Spoiler:

Keep buying scrolls from the candy vendor. They seem to be random, but they can all be useful: imps, fireballs, teleportation, etc. Teleporting is definitely the most useful of all the scrolls, though.

Oh thanks!

Spoiler:

I forgot the scrolls you buy from him were random!

Another trick for bosses is

Spoiler:

planting seeds after teleporting. Chopping down the trees takes time, and time is what you need to restore your HP. Seeds are brewed in the cauldron, the formula is in the book. Also, if you plant enough seeds you'll grow Yggdrasil, which I believe drops special stuff.

I don't think it drops anything other than candy.

I hadn't thought of this.

I'm up to the dragon, too. Lately I've just been idling in another tab while waiting for more resources, to get stronger, to come after the dragon again. I should probably try out that tree, and maybe brew some better potions too.

I just realized that eating candy ups your HP. Can't believe I didn't notice that until today.

My strategy for the dragon (before I realized more candy=more HP):

Spoiler:

I brewed a ton of seeds, Invulnerable potions and Major Health potions, then spammed the "Buy a scroll" button until I had a lot of teleporters. Then I made my way to the dragon> Invincible'd as soon as I reached him, Teleported as soon as the potion wore off, planted a seed, upped my health, and did it all over again. I was only running like 110HP at that point, so it took a few tries... :P

From the dragon on, it's the only way to play, really.

Worthwhile.
I need to go check the developer site. I'd throw a couple of bucks at him if he has a paypal link.
It's given me lots of entertainment.

BTW, don't navigate to www.aniway.net hoping to find a developer site. I just lost my motivation to give him any money.

Man, that's such a dick move.

It's a scare site, for those who might want to know before they click.

Odd. It wasn't that way when I visited it last week. It was just a simple white page with text saying little more than "Hi, I'm working on my degree in computer science. Thanks!"

Hax?

Spelling counts

Good God, I am apparently undefeatable. :/

Every once in a while I feel like the Sword of Summoning was a bad idea.

Spoiler:

I just got to Hell.

On the other hand, I've been grinding a lot. Level 15 sword, 1476 hit points.

Edit: Maybe that sword was wise after all.

Spoiler:

My summoned monster seems to be taking quite a lot out of that spiked wall in my absence.

I just leveled my sword from 13 to 22, and then subsequently traipsed through the area you just got to... after numerous failed attempts over the past couple of weeks. Phew!

For those of you who enjoyed this, the sequel has just been released...

I've already crushed the Bridge Troll, enchanted two pairs of gloves, and crossed the Dark Cave into the forest.
