Preview of Neverwinter From Cryptic and PWE

I was working leadership only (level 13.5 atm) but might switch to tailoring. I just am not seeing the bar move fast enough now, it's driving me crazy

When did you guys start buying tools? 50 silver seems a bit steep for me when I'm still trying to save for a mount (lvl 14 now)

So whats the steps required to join pvp? The couple times i've been on i've only seen a way to set a reminder of a match, but not actually seen a way to join in.

Hit 'k' (I believe). It brings up an list of scenarios to queue for. (Scenarios being PvP, Skirmishes and Dungeons)

Spent a bunch of time this weekend playing and hit level 20. What a blast!

In an earlier post, I asked about guild info, but I'm also wondering if anyone has started a spreadsheet of Goodjer accounts for 1-to-1 friend requests. Any word?

So far I've only done 1 PvP match and I've yet to try a dungeon or skirmish. From earlier comments I'm assuming the dungeons are good for duos while skirmishes recommend a 5 man party?

Dungeons are also 5 man. Both skirmishes and dungeons auto fill your group if you don't queue with a full one. Same for PvP. PvP usually pops pretty quick though.

I've joined by going to "Trade of Blades" in Protector's Enclave, talk to the main guy and he queues you for a 5v5 control point style PVP. It's been alright but disorganized so far for me (currently 0-2), but as a guardian I just love when weapons fighters try to focus me and continually bounce off my shield

Haven't done skirmishes or a dungeon yet

in PvP the crowd control classes reign.itsnot balanced very well. You are either on a team with lot of CC or you are on the losing team.

Only did one so far, when they send you on a quest to do it, fighting against a team with two wizards was really annoying, we had 2clr/2rog/1war. Somehow, after being down by alot we won 1000 to 995. Definitely extremely unorganized though, and not sure how much time I would spend doing that.

On the other side, the one skirmish (again when you get the quest for it) was really fun.

So far really enjoying the little time I have spent with the game and plan to pile ahead. Hopefully can run some dungeons at some point, though no idea about how those work yet as the game hasn't pointed me at one yet.

It does seem odd that the first dungeon is so far into the game, I haven't reached it either (lvl14) but I see a bunch of lvl 12's looking for groups to run it in chat.

The first dungeon (The Cloak Tower I think) is really fun. It's just long enough to be epic and rewarding. The only thing I would like is more challenging dynamics in the boss fights and maybe tougher trash pulls.

I love how easy it is to hit k and que up for pvp, skirmishes and dungeons in one spot.

So what happens if you are already in a group of less than 5, and you queue up. Does it keep your small group together and add people to fill it out to 5, or is it completely random?

It just fills your group at 5, it does not split you up.

As far PvP, I would say CC class rules 1v1 but you can still win matches. Originally when I first started the people I was playing with had the "hold the middle" mentality. Now I really see how taking the opposing teams spot can add strategy to the game.

Also as a tip to new PvPers, a contested point does NOT give points. So fight ON the point if possible. If your group is hanging outside the point firing into it, the other team is still gaining points. Also, just hitting the other team's home spot and contested will drag a couple of players (usually) to it freeing up an attack on the middle.

Anyone else unable to stay connected to the server?

I'm at work now but having issues with the gateway, not sure if those are connected

EDIT: nvm, working for me now

I jumped in to the Dragon server as a Great Weapon fighter. Traditionally in RPGs I always play a human two-handed fighter with the biggest hammer possible, so GW seemed perfect. I did go dwarf this time though, as Squee Ninebeard was just too good a name to pass up.

I haven't played an MMO since Dark Ages 11 years ago, so I'm not quite as exhausted by the MMO tropes as some people. It's fun so far though.

Question: Are there some sweet sweet rebonkulous hammers I can get my bearded mits on?

I finally got a mace for my Guardian, but don't know about GW or drops in general.

Really digging the healer, only died a handful of times, and only to bosses. Level 32 now, and hopefully will get some advancement in tonight as well.

Been enjoying the healer as well, though I really think I am missing something with the targeting of others in a group situation to actually cast my heals on them, its was to hectic to try to mouse target someone and get a heal onto them, so I end up playing my wizard more since no expectation of healing.

They really do need some kind of party targeting system.

You can actually set bind keys to target other players by name. For example, say you play often with Norrin and Gwenn...

/bind F1 "hardtargetlock 1 $$ target Norrin"
/bind F2 "hardtargetlock 1 $$ target Gwenn"

F1 would target Norrin and F2 would target Gwenn. Be sure and also bind a key (easily accessible key) to /bind "Hardtargetlock 0", otherwise you'll be stuck on a target and can't mouselook or target another player. It is a hardtargetlock and the only way to unlock is the "hardtargetunlock 0"

Binds don't save, however, through logouts. If this is something you want to persist through logouts, you'll have to save them to a bind text.

Steps:
1. Create a bound keys

2. Save the key binds to a custom file.
/bind_save_file binds.txt (this will save a text file named binds.txt to the Neverwinter/Live folder).

3. Edit the Binds.txt file.
I updated the F bind from F "hardtargetlock 1" to F "hardtargetlock 1 $$ target Gwenndy"
Save file.

4. Load new binding
/bind_load_file binds.txt

Anyone heard if they will allow addons like WoW does?

Great info! Thanks! Now if only they could think up a way to make that more unfriendly to configure, no way that's working in a queue for a skirmish or pvp map. Would work well enough if you only play with a specific group I guess.

This game was completely off my radar until I met one of the designers at a LoL event I hosted two weeks ago. She told me all about it, so I downloaded and rolled a Rogue on Dragon. I like it so far, I've just been hacking my way through fights but with Shifting, my slows, and my dagger throwing I know I could be a lot more tactical if I want to (and will probably need to). I'm considering the Founder program, but want to play a bit more first.

What's the main goodjer server for this game, or are we all spread out?

Dragon server, so you're all set.

Score, well my account name is "Ahrezmendi" (or [email protected]), and my two characters so far are Lysandra and Jorah. Is there a GWJ guild?

I rolled a Great Blade on Dragon: Matea BroadBlade, or some such nonsense. So far, and I haven't gotten very far, I'm deja vu-ing on half a dozen or so MMOs whose features are in Neverwinter.

Sounds like WoW 2.0, right?

Combat is satisfying, but I only played through the tutorial area, so it will be interesting to see how the questing holds up.

Questing so far (I'm up to 7) is pretty standard MMO fare. Collect X of these, clear this dungeon and talk with the dude at the end, kill Y of these, deliver message to some lady down in another town. It's the combat that keeps me coming back, as a Rogue it's really fast paced and rewarding. Boss fights in particular are awesome, where I can execute my full combo chain after Dodging away from an attack and remove half the boss' health. I don't expect my Guardian will be quite as exciting, but I love me some good old fashion tanking at times.

This game never even made it to my radar until the conference call last week. I downloaded it and I'm enjoying it so far. Does anyone know of good class guides that describe skills/powers at later levels?

These guides might help:
