Monaco Catch-All / Don't-Get-Caught-All

sh*t, I'm on board for tonight after a brief affair of building someone a pc.

Lookout is tough in terms of taking coins but fantastic as a support role in multiplayer. Sneak everywhere (as much as possible) so your crew gets enhanced vision; also, because you can use windows and ladders faster, she's a good role for scouting ahead, especially if you roll without a Gentleman or Redhead. If you need more excitement, though, it might be a good idea to choose another role.

Ok, so I'm playing it right. It might just be that on the Disco level (which is the one we were playing last night) she's only good for the intel... there's not a lot of vents, ladders or windows to open.

I mean, you can always run around like a lunatic and draw the attention of every guard on the level away from your comrades. In Monaco, that's always an option. (I had a pretty fantastic romp through the discotheque last night as pickpocket -- a much faster, albeit slightly more death-inducing, way to clear out the crowded dance floor.)

Any word on how many XBux Monaco is going to cost?

According to the fan wiki, the Lookout has a slightly faster running speed that the other players and guards so that seems like it would be an effective use of her.

Probably 1600 spacebux, based on where indie games tend to open at for the last year.

I played some single player Monaco last night (BECAUSE NO ONE WOULD PLAY WITH ME) and yeah- it's such a harder proposition to play single player. Still need to get the redhead.

It really gets hardcore after the first few missions! I got to the 13th playing multi, and then tried to continue on my own. That only lead to 1,5 hours of frustrating retries...
Unfortunately it seems as though the open lobbies are already pretty thin on the gound, and I don't have anyone to play with in my corner of the world. Oh well, I'll have to settle for 7h of playtime and an incomplete playthrough. Fun as long as it lasted!

Up to 4. The only downside I've noticed playing in Big Picture mode is that they have to zoom out the map to fit everyone on screen. It makes it a little harder to read the details. Also, you can't use headphones which makes noises like the guard footstep a lot more obvious.

I read its going to be 1200 or $15. I actually haven't noticed that many at games 1600 (Minecraft is the only one I can think of). They usually just match the equivalent PC release price.

Edit: From reading the reviews this game sounds so good but I'm just really not liking the blocky art style. Everything just looks so cluttered and confusing. I imagine it starts to get easier to identify stuff after playing it some but it's making me hesitant to purchase this without a demo.

Nice. Thanks!

I thought Mark of the Ninja and Dust: An Elysian Tale were both at 1600, but I could be wrong. Whatever it is, it'll probably be between 1200 and 1600 - very unlikely that it'll launch at 800 or less.

We should try a two-player game sometime and see if the lag isn't too bad. Also, it could help you progress if you try replaying some earlier missions in single-player mode, because a slightly different set of tactics is often necessary if you don't have teammates.

No, they were all 1200. I think your thinking of the jump from 800 to 1200 which was a bit jarring.

Edit: It will release at 1200.

Well blow me down. Might just double dip on this while waiting on my mobo RMA to ship back...

I've mostly given up on trying for complete clean outs in singleplayer, because there are some spots where you really need more than one character to make things work. On the plus side, since you're the only one collecting coins, you usually have multiple charges for whatever item you're carrying.

I'd be very happy to play if we ever happen to be online at the same time!
But I don't think I'll play more SP; I'm sure I can learn the right way to tackle the missions solo, but it would take too much repetition and suck the fun out of the game, for me at least. I'm not much of a stealth game guy, and what kept me coming back to Monaco were the team tactics and the constantly impending chaos. Also, missions take ages to clear alone!

Would any of you proper villains be interested in some co-op starting around 9:30-10 PM EST tonight?

If the boy goes down nicely, I'm in.

Set about doing some single player for the first time last night. Holy cow, the Gentleman seems like crazy easy mode, but then again maybe I've just played too much of the difficult later levels in multiplayer. I can't find any appeal in the pickpocket at all.

I'm in, but I'll be on more towards 10 or so.

Uhhh, monkey, HELLO.

Last night was my first time using him for an extended period of time. He's a really strong role, but his secondary ability is easily the weakest of the group. Definitely a good alternate to the lookout though if you have a group that's sticking together since you can use him for recon due to the disguise ability.

Really can't see myself using anyone else in single player although that probably depends on the level.

Well, my query was for last night, but i'm down for some co-op tonight around the same time.

Monkey can't open safes, take stacks of bills off counters, or ride a bicycle. So, pretty much worthless.

Speed running. He can clear out money sitting underneath the NPCs faster and without drawing attention.

I was playing a bunch of Gentleman SP before I thought about it and tried to use the hacker for a level I was having trouble with.
One thing I hadn't realized was just how little I had been walking in people's vision cones with the gentlemen, until I stopped playing him that is.

I still like recon far better for MP because of the easy open door/vent thing.

That is a handy secondary ability but it's limited by some of the level layouts. The disco doesn't have many vents but the intel you get from the lookout is very valuable going into a level cold.

If there's any interest in trying to get a night to play co-op (i.e. Wednesdays between 10 PM to 1AM drop in as you may) I would also have such an interest.

I would be interested.

I'm down with a regular Monaco night

Good news: the level editor has been released!

Bad news: the level editor has completely broken the game so you can't play missions! http://www.pocketwatchgames.com/mant... (at least I'm guessing that this bug is related)

Okay, so apparently when Monaco installed on my machine, it basically left everything from the beta in place. So that's why I could see the level editor (which is pretty rudimentary at this point, but sufficient) and probably why my game was Crashy McGee. Sorry Boogle. Uninstall + reinstall = Cyranix can now play.
